If it looks like there might be some discrepencies in the coordinates (assuming everyone is still on board with the phone idea) maybe we should be re-checking ILB to make sure the coordinates haven't changed [meta] in case the PMs realized they messed up a couple or [/meta] [in-game] the Queen is still fixing any of SPDR's preliminary errors [/in-game]. Neways, good luck on Tuesday unless we decide it's something completely different. [/list][/code]

Coords have changed as recently as ... Friday?
I'd check the coords right before heading out

Yikes, I just saw this one:
39.911569 -89.215736 7:27 6.8 km north of Illiopolis (b/t Springfield & Decatur) Illinois
If this coord is right and this acme is be believed:
http://mapper.acme.com/?lat=39.911569&long=-89.215736&scale=10
I doubt a phone booth is in that guy's harvest ...
And I don't recommend anyone geocaching into someone's corn field

[meta]Waits for the PMs to notice GunsmithCat's post and update the coordinate[/meta]

Perhaps, when you approached the area, you'd see a person (actor) already on the phone. On seeing you/other ARGers appraoch, they would panic, drop the receiver (still live) and run away. You'd pick up the line and "intercept" a message that was intended for someone else. Seems like that could fit the plot neatly (but would involve a lot of labor).

I'm pretty sure that this was posted before but it seems that it bears repeating. No New York City payphones accept incoming calls. This would make the six locations in NYC useless in a phone scenario.

I'm pretty tall, so I'll just bend down to receive that blow from the trout, but my newbie forum-searching skills and reckless desire to plunge in got the better of me.
That said, I agree that the non-incoming call problem (quite common, I think) and the possibility that phones could be in use by citizens, etc. make the incoming call scenario, IMO, somewhat problematic for the PMs. I'm inclined to think a basic incoming call scenario is unlikely (but love the idea posited in another thread that they'd like to collect OUR voices for reassembly into future messages).
It's a head-scratcher alright! BTW, I plan to be on my bike in downtown San Francisco (my teaching schedule permitting) with a minicam to observe--possibly from a moderate distance to maybe see the "big picture" or observe other "observer-PMs" on the perifery). I live and work in the midst of all the locations there and may even do some recon tonight.

It's hard to ignore that at least a handful of these coords seem like they'd be difficult to actually get to (for the pure physical theory) and that while some of the payphones match coords, they can't take incoming calls (or there are no payphones there).
Still feels like we're missing something, and I guess I'm just hoping it's not something vital. The evidence at hand seems to be pretty well beaten to death though. Maybe there will be another update tonight, before any axons get hurt.

I just hope the PMs didn't just throw in a couple locations just for the random effect. That would be the suck.
/me casts a glare in the PMs direction, as he woefully considers driving 6 hours roundtrip tomorrow to a spot in the middle of the Arizona desert.

I went to all the locations on Capitol Hill in Seattle yesterday. Using the maps, not a GPS locator:
9:08 - Ragley Apartments on the corner of Republican and 16th. No pay phone in sight. This is a residential block.
9:23 - The front entrance to the Thomas Edison Tech School (part of the community college). No pay phone was visually evident.
10:38 - This is a common apartment building on the corner of 10th and John. There is a pay phone across the street and west.
11:41 - This is the confluence of Republican and Broadway. There is a grocery store (QFC), the Broadway Market and a church. No visual on a pay phone.
12:38 - 15th and Thomas. Key Bank and Group Health. There is a pay phone about a 1/4 block down the street.
17:35 - Corner of 10th and Mercer. Reunion House (a senior residence). No visual on a pay phone.
17:55 - Corner of 13th and Harrison. Just an apartment building. No visual on a pay phone.
Don't forget to look inside some of these places if possible... there's probably a payphone in the QFC store, inside the front of the school.. yadda yadda yadda

Thus adding to my theory.. that we need to make a call from the phone... It is our call as they say.

/me retracts his statement if it adds to the phone theory.

But then why would that be location specific? And what call would you make? (sorries if I'm trouting)

It's a good sign that the hinting has stopped. Now that it looks like we are going to show up they've backed off.
