Once again, I typed in something wrong trying to find a lead...

http://stareightsix.com/sources/6EQUJ5

which (by clicking on the error link) led me to here...

http://jay-bill.com/

I'll be on for a few more minutes. I'll be able to get online again in a few more hours. I'll see what else I can find.

EDIT: the site was created Thursday, so I'm thinking it is IG. I emailed salesSPLATjay-bill.com and got an autoreply.

There is an intranet directory that is PW protected. Any ideas?

Someone better tell them they need to think about packing up..

But you're OK with me running a telecommunications company out of Grand Central Station? Wink

Well, we already know the admin's name is mkapniski [sic, error message] or mkapinski [email addy ref'd at bottom of page]. That just leaves a password.

EDIT: Just checked up on the magazine mentioned on the frontpage - it's real, and my university has copies! I'll check it out, see if the ad has anything.

Well, this just keeps getting weirder. Or less weird. I don't know.

Jay-Bill Industries?!?!!??11oneoneone11?! That's either the strangest coincidence yet or whoever is doing this is just trying to f*** with my head.

I should also point that when I initially confronted Nathan about this he denied it, but then he kind of suggested his guilt by not really responding to me about it over IM since I said something.

Since he's probably reading this thread, I'll just wave to him. *waves*

I'd just like to point out that there's probably about four people on earth that would enjoy reading this magazine. And two of them only speak German and High Klingon.

Hey in the about picture

there is this middle section with the constellations:
I think I identified them as [Little dipper] -ursa minor, and Cassiopeia, [the Queen] along with Cygnus -[the Swan]
I think the one on very top is pegasus [the flying horse], but not sure about it.

here are pics of the constellations:

=

probably no clue meant, but who knows yet?
Anybody know the one on top for sure?
here's inverse of it.
Blow it up and take a good look

Poking back in. Just got a new email. an attachment called Argus_Leader_4_Jun_1938.gif

Here's my transcript of it....
Quote:
"It sounded almost like some kind of machine, maybe something electric, but nothing like anything I've ever heard before," said local amateur radio operator James Andel. "My first reaction was to check my equipment and walk around the outside of the building. After that, I when I still picked it up loud and clear, I was sure."

Andel says he was not the only one that heard the peculiar interference but he could not identify any other witnesses. "I was in the middle of trying to work a new DX station, somewhere in Manitoba. I never got the details because the noise started right then. There was at least one other ham operator on that frequency right then, that much I know."

By pure chance, Britton happens to be home to William Jennison and Jay Hest. Jennison and Hest are radio engineers and co-owners of Jay-Bill Technical Services, a company that assists commercial radio stations who want to improve the strength and quality of their signals. They are both skeptical of Andel's claims. "We were doing signal strength tests for KABR over in Aberdeen that day," said Hest. "We had a lot of sensitive equipment set up and we were certainly monitoring those frequencies. If there had been anything strange going on, we not only would have picked it up, we would have recorded it." Jennison, however, is more to the point. "Unfortunately, I think what we have here," Jennison said, "is either faulty equipment or a troubled young operator trying to attract attention to himself." (continued on page six)

Just received this:

From: sourceSPLATstareightsix.com
Subject: Argus Leader, 4 Jun 1938

No text in the message; just the attachment.

EDIT: Curses! Beaten by seconds! Made me lose the attachment... It's the same image nonetheless.

That first 'I' seems out of place to me. Yet another additional 'I'?

Yep, there's that I again!

Very quick research:

Argus Leader is a real SD newspaper. KABR is a real Aberdeen, SD radio station.

No google results for James Andel.

Rexall is/was a well-known pharmaceutical chain in the mid-20th century.

I suppose the gist of the article is that Mr. Andel picked up a bizarre noise while trying to verify contact with a Manitoba, BC radio station, while Jay-Bill Inc. denies picking up any such signal themselves.

I wonder if the other amateur ham radio operator, the 'witness' from the text is going to be important?
Also, I noticed something wierd, if you Google KABR, most of the hits come up with a current radio station in New Mexico, and, whilst the first few lines of the wiki relate to KABR being a radio station in South Dakota from yesteryear, all of the information on the right hand side relates to the New Mexico station. I'm sure it's nothing, but it just struck me as unusual.

The motherlode!

So it seems mkapinski has suddenly turned up on the Google yesterday (credit to jaybill for that one, again), with a Myspace account:

http://www.myspace.com/mkapinski

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
You'll notice Mr. Kapinski, in both his myspace account and carforums.com account, quite likes Mustangs. So!

username: mkapinski
password: mustang

And we're in the intranet. There is a lot of stuff but all I've taken a look at is the e-mail back up and even that I've just quickly skimmed, so dig in. What I've put together so far:

Michael Getz is a new employee at Jay-Bill and seems to be the owner of stareightsix.com. He asks Kapinski for server space for his own private Wordpress site. He's also the technical liason for a scientist at the Arecibo observatory, who sends him a strange signal for analysis (attached). Getz replies saying it's nothing unusual but then sends it to sourceSPLATstareightsix.com under the subject "Holy Shit".

There's also an e-mail "Data Exchange Point" to a meredith.campbellSPLATnas.edu with a string of three-digit numbers.

Also, no one likes Janet Simmons.

I've probably missed a lot but just wanted to get this up. Whew!

Looks like the data string is in base-5 again, too.

I tried a spectrogram but nothing stood out... just to note, the ID info for the MP3 has the coordinates: 18.3442 -66.7528 in the comment (points to Aricebo), title: "Isolated Pattern", genre: Acoustic, and track #66.
