Whois says the sites were created in '98 and '99. Now that's some ARG planning. No, not a match.

ETA: Great work on the wiki AUZ!

New email

New email from sourceSPLATstareightsix.com:

Subject: Name that tune

There is only a link to http://tinyurl.com/5ozrzj, which leads to the "deoceded signal.mp3".

I thought that tune comes from an ETI. So should have not a name here on our planet. But who knows...

Actually, just to clarify, Meredith seems to indicate that

Quote:
Seeing as we know the sound is of human origin, maybe you can work your usual magic and see what you can learn about it. I'll write again if I find anything else.

And a new update to http://stareightsix.com/x-fer-station/ says this:

Quote:
# admin Says:

I've put it out to my network. We'll see what they come back with.

Assuming we are in fact the network and that we need to, somehow, identify the fragment of music and its origin. Jaybill and I are trying to identify the bagpipe-sounding instrument that seems to be prevalent on the track, but maybe somebody else has a means of actually analyzing the track itself and comparing it to a database of other music?

So, looks like it's important to identify this human-produced piece of music and then send the answer back to sourceSPLATstareightsix.com...

I've been trying to get a match on the tune with TrackID, but I've had no joy yet. To be fair though, my phone's connection to TrackID has been a bit flakey since I started trying for some reason. Does anyone know of any PC-based alternatives to Track ID? I've tried a few pieces of sofware that claim to do a similar job but all they do is check the ID Tags of the mp3s.

Ran "decoded_ signal.mp3" through the Abander Program searching for hidden images and/or comments. No joy and only the Genre tag: Acoustic (previously mentioned) which would mean a large data base search. Sad

Reckon TheParthenon is spot on thinking that we are indeed the network. And SUPAH wiki AUZ--ty.

Like TheParthenon said, I think the "instrument" (assuming it's not digital) is some kind of bagpipes. Assuming this is true, they're certainly not any kind of bagpipes I've ever heard (those being the Scottish sort).

As it turns out, bagpipes aren't even of Scottish origin:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bagpipes

There are, in fact, a staggering variety of kinds of bagpipes from all over Europe, Africa and Asia:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_bagpipes

It would stand to reason that if we can find the right kind of bagpipes we can figure out at least what kind of music they are used in. Googling the names of some of these things leads to some interesting (if not terribly useful) results, a lot of them on youtube:

French "veuze"
German Mittelaltersackpfeife <-- Get ready for some German Ren-fair awesomeness.

When you start to get down to some of the Eastern European and Russian bagpipes, you're certainly at least hitting similar tones/tunings.

Ukranian "Volynka" <-- Btw, if anyone knows where I can get a hat like that, please message me.

So I haven't gotten through nearly all of them yet, but I'm pretty sure that we are looking for bagpipes.

I have to get to work, I'll look more later. I leave you with this video of German Ren-Fair Bagpipe Techno: Unplugged.

OK, so the metalworking was my bad. /facepalm.

But, OOG-guy, a friendly correction -- his name is Matthew Kapinski... not Michael Kapinski. I notice you've sorta been using them interchangeably throughout your last several posts.

Unless I'm mistaken, our characters are Michael Gertz and Matthew Kapinski.

Matthew Kapinski was the technical contact for Jay-Bill, and there's a Matthew Kapinski who's the technical contact for Monarch Steel, which is why I thought there was a connection.

Anyway!

I'm not really too good at helping much with the whole audio recognition thing... =\ so I guess I'm gonna return to lurkmode.

Thanks for the correction dana Wink

I've been busy trying to find the type of music.
Currently looking into India popular style:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Music_of_India

Acustic genre might fall into the Folk music of India
# 2 Folk music

* 2.1 Bhavageete
* 2.2 Bhangra
* 2.3 Lavani
* 2.4 Dandiya
* 2.5 Rajasthan
* 2.6 Bauls

Re jaybill's bagpipe quest: pure spec that the instrument is African, the vocal Islamic.

Why? While playing the mp3 my guy who can nevah remember a tune but is USAF reserve suddenly stopped putting up Cmas lights and said: "That's from Black Hawk Down. Let's watch it again soon".

Checked as much as possible of the film's score with Somalian Influenced music finding only close similarities. Maybe a direction to head in a database search?

???

Pretty close to the same sound. Not sure if it's the exact same instrument though. Nice call on the BlackHawk down movie. The music is really close (if not exact).

I just have sent the following email to Meredith. Let's see if something will happen:

Quote:

Dear Mrs. Campbell,

good to know it's still an ARg and not possibly using real people that would have no IG status.
Either way -nice going. You got kahoonas -stones and and all that, lol
The music is hard to narrow down.
We need clues as to what nation/sate this particular style originates from.
Any clues that would reveal this so far-in the storyline?

Any of the coords land in islamic or mid east nation?

I know that inia religion is based mostly on many gods [yet it is also basically choose one and stick to only that one during meditation and as for during scripture teachings, think of God as your deity that you selected to worship]- at least that is what I gather from studying it. ]

The reason I stick with India on this one us that they of all nations would have the easiest time to accept public Disclosure -since they accept so many gods into their way of life- for so long now.

Edit to add: I have heard that the monotheistic religions/faiths would have the easiest time to accept disclosure, but that is illogical IMHO.

I'm sure there there is more than one race of ET and I'm sure they would be declaring they are the Gods, emphasis on the plural.

As for me and my beliefs, I am sure they are not the gods, but flesh and blood as we are.

back to being on topic,
Could it be electronic synthesizer instead of actual bagpipes?

The difference between the two tracks is one is more of a reed instrument while the decoded signal definitely sounds as its coming from an instument based on a chanter. This really reminds me of stuff we listen to on the way to the battleground or at bonfire...I really wish we could nail down the vocal at the end. Is there any way to isolate it?
