re: Canada - the call with Mike Russo placed live on the arg netcast #70 with jamesi in Winnipeg had Mike recognizing that Canada still exists... so it's not "formerly known as" it would seem, though he didn't appear to know the condition of people up north, and was glad to hear jamesi was doing well. Razz

whereabouts are you in canada oshi? another local ontarian? Smile

Quite the opposite actually, I'm from BC. :] And I sent my "formerly known as" comment a long time ago, back when we first discovered their facebooks - she just got around to replying to me today.

I wonder if there's any meaning behind this. Yet another example of people not remembering their childhood/past, false memories maybe?

One of the 300 Troubles was the loss of memory. Not sure what CAUSED the 300 Troubles, though, or how much of remaining memories can be trusted.

realistically, while this place hasn't exactly lived up to the hype, i have to say that i'm surprised with how nice and safe it is, mostly because i was expecting it to be terrible. godseed fragments are just a way of life, here the same as anywhere, and once you take that into account, really, i think the rebels are the closest thing to a real "threat" in the area.

Are we supposed to hit a magic number of friends for Mars to "open up" a bit? My assumption is 300 because of the 300 Troubles, and it would look nice with that little bow. It is also divisable by three, the number in the recommended groups for walking Milwaukee. I've been posting on her wall and messaging, but with no luck - if I hear anything I'll def post it.

Is there a possibility that we need to find another puzzle (or solve one) before the game moves on - if so, what is the most likely puzzle for Mars to be associated with now that she's going to start work for Blackstar on Monday: M:ARH, the video from the website, or stick it out with facebook?

I'm rambling - I'll stop.

Mars hit the 300 mark earlier today - new info page reads:

Quote:
Activities: i like to read, i like to walk around, and i like to fix things. picked up a few books on political theory recently, too, since i moved here.

Interests: fixing things, really. tinkering around with old machines. my heart is in instrument repair, esp pianos.

Favorite Music: anything but the milwaukee pops orchestra.

Favorite TV Shows: milwaukee today! (guilty pleasure), old dor stuff that's lying around, anything with cool dog in it

Favorite Quotations: "blow on a spark to make it glow, or spit on it to put it out. both results come from the one mouth."

About Me: three hundred friends is good.
but i've still got a lot to say and not sure if i feel comfortable saying it.

Looks like we've got a ways to go o_O

At this point we may just have to coax her a bit--it doesn't sound like she necessarily wants more friends, just that she's not comfortable enough yet.

"blow on a spark to make it glow, or spit on it to put it out. both results come from the one mouth"

http://www.carm.org/lost/sirach.htm

Quote:
28 The vengeful man will face the vengeance of the Lord, who keeps strict account of his sins. 2 Forgive your neighbour his wrongdoing; then, when you pray, your sins will be forgiven. 3 If a man harbours a grudge against another, is he to expect healing from the Lord? 4 If he has no mercy on his fellow- man, is he still to ask forgiveness for his own sins? 5 If a mere mortal cherishes rage, where is he to look for pardon? 6 Think of the end that awaits you, and have done with hate; think of mortality and death, and be true to the commandments; 7 think of the commandments, and do not be enraged at your neighbor; think of the covenant of the Most High, and overlook faults. 8 To avoid a quarrel is a setback for sin, for it is a hot temper that kindles quarrels. 9 A sinner sows trouble between friends and spreads scandal where before there was peace. 10 A fire is kept hot by stoking and a quarrel by persistence. A man's rage is in proportion to his strength, and his anger in proportion to his wealth. 11 A hasty argument kindles a fire, and a hasty quarrel leads to bloodshed. 12 Blow on a spark to make it glow, or spit on it to put it out; both results come from the one mouth. 13 Curses on the gossip and the tale- bearer! For they have been the ruin of many peaceable men. 14 The talk of a third party has wrecked the lives of many and driven them from country to country; it has destroyed fortified towns and demolished the houses of the great. 15 The talk of a third party has brought divorce on staunch wives and deprived them of all they have laboured for. 16 Whoever pays heed to it will never again find rest or live in peace of mind. 17 The lash of a whip raises weals, but the lash of a tongue breaks bones. 18 Many have been killed by the sword, but not so many as by the tongue. 19 Happy the man who is sheltered from its onslaught, who has not been exposed to its fury, who has not borne its yoke, or been chained with its fetters! 20 For its yoke is of iron, its fetters of bronze. 21 The death it brings is an evil death; better the grave than the tongue! 22 But it has no power over the godfearing; they cannot be burned in its flames. 23 Those who desert the Lord fall victim to it; among them it will burn like fire and not be quenched. It will launch itself against them like a lion and tear them like a leopard. 24 As you enclose your garden with a thorn hedge, and lock up your silver and gold, 25 so weigh your words and measure them, and make a door and a bolt for your mouth. 26 Beware of being tripped by your tongue and falling into the power of a lurking enemy.

It's apparently from the Sirach, a book of ethical teachings, which is biblical canon to Catholics but not protestants.

Darn, you beat me to it Sheep! I knew I'd seen that passage somewhere. The section quoted is essentially about not being a gossip, being careful what you say so that you don't start trouble. In plain English:

8. To avoid a quarrel is a setback for sin, for it is a hot temper that kindles quarrels.
9. A sinner sows trouble between friends and spreads scandal where before there was peace.
10. A fire is kept hot by stoking and a quarrel by persistence. A man's rage is in proportion to his strength, and his anger in proportion to his wealth.
11. A hasty argument kindles a fire, and a hasty quarrel leads to bloodshed.
12. Blow on a spark to make it glow, or spit on it to put it out. Both results come from the one mouth.

--Ecclesiasticus 28:8-12

Maybe she is referring to what just happened with Russo? Maybe he wasn't attacked by the Go.D.S.E.E.D fragments so much as thrown to them because BS suspected him of being a spy/double agent? Or maybe she's just telling us to be careful of who we trust and to be careful of what we say to any given character in the game as there may be consequences.

I still think Mars and Russo are rebel agents.

Cool!

I PM'ed this to Mars via FB even before reading your post, but now I feel like I might be on the right track:

Quote:

Hi Mars,

I see that you also read the Sirach.

Let me share with you my favourite quote from his teachings:
"Many have been killed by the sword, but not so many as by the tongue."

I wish for you stay safe. Be careful who you talk to in Black Star. As I mentioned in my previous message, I'm moving to Milwaukee soon. If you ever need a friend to confide in, I'm here for you.

My Name

I find it interesting that she hasn't accepted any more friends now that she's reached 300.

You're not my friend anymore!

I'm going to de-friend Mars. Let's see if she accepts someone else to get back up to 300.

I see Mars added that she likes "instrument repair, esp pianos."

I figured she meant repairing stuff like scanners or something, but I guess she means actual musical instruments.
