[trailhead] Save Evan Smith Wikibruce.com received a tip tonight... well, not a tip, a threat...
Quote:
YOU HAVE THE CHANCE TO SAVE A MAN'S LIFE
www.saveevansmith.blogspot.com
From mothernaturesmessengerSPLAT gmail.com
The blog's header contains the text:
"You wish to save a man's life.
All I ask for in return is fame. Make the world aware and he shall be free."
The first entry has pictures of a person bound in a chair inside a garage holding a sign that reads "1-11" (Jan 11?), one with the person missing (but a foot in the upper corner in the shadow) and two photos from the floor - the main difference of the last two being the position of a leg in the background. I couldn't find any other relevent differences. (the images have EXIF data, but nothing informative other than the standard photograph/camera properties; the first photo was taken on the 14th at 3:46pm, and the last at 3:54pm)
The 2nd (more recent) entry contains an audio message with a text quote "Is there life before death? -Graffito" - one part of the audio I had difficulty making out
Quote:
Do you like games? Do you like to play games?
Because this isn't a game at all.
I want the in...(?) Be happy with that.
Because at the same time I absolutely don't care.
You don't want to take this seriously,
Well then you know what's going to happen.
The blog's name is "You wish to save a man's life", the blogspot location being "saveevansmith" (who's Evan Smith?)
I haven't replied to the email...
RSS feed for the blog is at http://saveevansmith.blogspot.com/feeds/posts/default

seems interesting...
i noticed in the source code they have a visiter counter... This seems like a Viral so far. Maybe they are waiting for enough people to show interest before they go forward.

Or they end it all at 5000 (a la Millenium or Untraceable). 5000 hits = fame?

I'm just waiting for a boy-who-cried-wolf situation; one of these days, it'll be real, and we just won't bite.

Depending on where the PM's from, maybe it's November 1st? My grandmother's from Germany and she always writes her letters dated that way. Or maybe it's a deadline? IE, if he doesn't get enough visitors by then (Jan 11th), he kills Smith.
Also, are we supposed to recognize him as Graffito? Because that quote is much older and credited as anonymous.

I think that all the time. One of these days man...It's a really creepy thought.

I actually thought that would make a good plot for a novel. ARG players think they are playing a game when in actuality people are being murdered.

Since the guy wanted a bunch of recognition, I stuck the link up on Digg.

* Makes a note of that idea for future reference... *
And, degravedi, might as well put the link on Fark or Slashdot and take down his server.

Why not just link straight to the counter and blast it to eternity?

Do it Nighthawk! He wants fame, we'll fame him full of fame!
That's awesome. I wonder if it's cheating if I stick an auto refresher to that page...

thebruce had trouble making out one of the lines:
Quote:

I think the line is:
Quote:
I want you in mine. Be happy with that.

Well, the counter is past 5000. I wonder what Mr. Attention Seeker will do now.
