Well, I guess we don't really know for sure if you need the cards to get clue #4...though it's obviously one way to get clue 4!
Also, it might mean that you don't need to buy the physical cards, as you can request (albeit using two stamps per request) the card codes. In addition, according to 39cluesworld.com, in June of 2010 there will be a rare card pack released, and I'd assume we'll be able to request the card codes there as well, thus 'easily' getting card #60 and other rare cards.

from Scholastic help on the39clues.com
Quote:
Where do I find Clues?
There is one Clue in each of the 10 books. The remaining Clues come from cards and the online game.

From www.the39clues.com
Quote:
Unlock a clue if you have the ultra-rare card by visiting MY CARDS and clicking on it.

That is right there on the front left hand column under "Have you found THE CLUES" I think Scholastic are telling us that we need to buy the card to get the clue.

I can't imagine Scholastic handing out clues for the first card pack when they are trying to get people to buy the second wave. I could be wrong though.

I've also explained before, that some people who don't live in the countries sponsoring the 39 clues prizes, can't get the clues by putting together self addressed stamped envelopes. They also haven't begun the ability to combine cards yet, so right now, that is not an option. Besides, How many people on this forum are still looking for card 60? I know of quite a few. At least 5. So that means another $30 for packs at the low price range. Now the possibility of getting card 60 with the purchase of one pack is slim. (I've bought around 10 so far and only have one 60). Why would scholastic just add that card to someones account by allowing them to combine cards. This is an excellent way to raise capital! How many spoiled kids in the world will get their mom to buy more cards because they are missing one. I think this is an excellent marketing ploy! As for the "rare card pack" are you willing to wait just over 18 months to get that card 60? Again, with no guarantee?

I was just reading hte help section on the 39 clues and came across this:

What do I need to do to win the Episode Prize?

For residents of Australia, Singapore, and Malaysia, to win the Episode Prize, you need to have twenty (20) cards in your account and you need to be the winner of rounds of timed, skill-based questions about Book 1: The Maze of Bones and other aspects of the Cahill world.

If so, is there another section to your game with these timed questions on it?

I made a dummy account just like you did and put my age as 9. Even then, I dont see any other section with these "timed questions". Either im as blind as a bat or there is no "timed questions" section on the 39 clues website.

I just went to scholastic.com.au/the39clues and Dan and Emily are the hero's of the story when you put the cursor on their picture. Laughing There is no mention of the timed thing. Maybe this will come later? Thanks for trying!

card 417

I just contacted Angus and Robertson book sellers. They responded very quickly. The reply was they gave cards away when the book first came out, but not now. So if there is a 417, it's not from them.

First, founders cards. We now have 9 of them. 2 from each of the 4 branches, and one from Cahill. So are there 5 "branches" or is this Cahill "goup" (for lack of a clarifying word) a separate entity. If you look at the dates, the Ekats go back to 1646 Flamsteed. The Lucian's have Ching Shih as a founder, but there is no date on her card. All of these founders are relatively recent, but hints from the books and online notes make the family much older. So founders can't fit the definition of a founder (beginner of something) therefore, my conclusion is they are people who found clues.
Evil or Very Mad Hey! That was my theory. Are you not reading my posts again? http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=586958&search_id=1258329505#586958. The least you can do is give me a little credit!

Embarassed I guess I missed that one Embarassed
I wish I knew what founder meant though. And why do they start so late?

Going back to the "Dan is a Tomas, Amy is an Ekat" idea. I looked on the scholastic press page, and the video is on there, very large and very clear. Take a look, and you may just change your mind. The white line that branches before them, comes from a strange starting point Wink

Ching Shih

Well, as this thread hasn't been locked, and my simple refusal to post a theory in a thread about which branch is better, I'll post my ideas here.

Ching Shih, from Wikipedia, was born around 1785. In 1801, she married the notorious pirate Zheng Yi. In 1807 he died and she maneuvered herself into a leadership position.

I don't think the man in black is a Madrigal. If you look at the back of card 48 it says "no Madrigal is getting to Russia on my Watch" It's just a hunch, nothing more to go on besides that phrase.

The back of card #48 is blank as it is the Magic Box. Try again.

Quote:
I think it is odd that Houdini is in the Janus, and Spamgalli (card 30) is ekat if the card branch is anything to go by. Amy gives us a clue in OFN Houdini is an escape artist, but I can't work out exactly how Spamgalli fits with the EKAT Branch whose strengths are "Inventing, science, imagination" Is hypnotism a science? or imagination?

See John Braid and medical research. Science was used to determine how hypnosis worked. Prior to Braid, the belief was magnetic force was used.

Free Digitized Cards with SASE

OK, I got another reply from Scholastic, and she said the info they gave me before was wrong (that both kids would be able to use the codes they sent.) They are indeed usable only once. They are so confused there! We sent away for the set of 16 card pack codes, and I will order the book from Scholastic book clubs (in Arrow January for $11 if your kids get the book clubs leaflets from school.)

WOW!
It's the code for #408, the Spaz (brought to you by Meijer).

Thanks mr. "the madrigals" person.
I wonder if he'll visit all the forums tracking the 39 clues.

Surveillance codes

No offence katsmom but I don't really want to give out my surveillance code. Seeing as we don't know what they do yet (if anything). I think I'll keep my cards close (literally). "Trust no one" I've never asked anyone for their codes, and I don't think it's a requirement to be a part of this forum. So in other words you can't make me neener neener neener Catfight!
