[META] August 24th Updates - Forum Decorum

I believe a sticky/announcement should be added to inform users about what to do tomorrow, since the site will go crazy with updates.

Due to August 24th being the day the Axons Go Hot, and the climax of the entire game to date executes, a note to all ARG players and Guests:

SEARCH before posting anything you believe is new - whether you search using the Search function, or browse the thread titles for a relevant thread, it's up to you. But please try to avoid duplicate discussion as much as possible.

Moderators will merge threads, and it's totally up to their own discression if they want to lock a thread or remove/edit any posting they feel is trout or flameable.

Yes, it's an exciting time, but think before you post! We don't want these forums becoming one huge chaotic dump. And please, for those of us who will follow the rules, lets try not to get all Mad or Evil or Very Mad or Twisted Evil at people who may be too dumb to follow instructions... we've seen what happens in threads where the arguments get personal... let's try to leave the 'cleanup' to the moderators and try to maintain a level of dignity and respect...

to a certain point Razz
21 hours to go... (as of this posting Wink)

EDIT - Added the prized "sticky". Added snazzy rhyme scheme to topic title - SG
Edit - De-stickified to prepare for the chaos -veen

Suggestions for Posting on ILB Forums - Easy Guidelines

Copied from another post of mine:

Things that will be most appreciated, in my opinion, that will keep me (and most likely the other moderators) in a good mood tomorrow and in the future are:

1. Label your posts. Label the threads, as well as label your actual replies to threads. This helps in searching the forums. Titling a thread or post "OK. Halo..." does not help. Please try to be specific in your labels

2. Search the forums prior to posting. I'm assuming most of what happens tomorrow will fall under the "Interaction" category and the "General/Updates" category. If we check those first for threads regarding "Coordinates Go Live" or some similar title, we can cut down on trouted and locked threads.

3. Play nice. Help your fellow players. If you stumble upon a trout post, link to a thread where the information has already been posted. Demonstrating that you've learned how to make a trout emoticon isn't a real brain-strain nor is it particularly helpful to anyone.

Good Luck!

The countdown on the website is linked to your computer's clock and set to count down to 6:07 am Aug. 24, according to your computer and based on whatever time zone you have your computer's clock set to.

However, we suspect that the countdown really points to the beginning of the "Axons Go Live" and the coordinates on the links page. Those times are listed as PDT (Pacific Daylight Time). It won't be 6:07 AM PDT for another 12 hours or so. If our theory's correct, that's when things will start happening. So keep paying attention, as things should be happening soon!

*fingers crossed...*

Also, please warn people to please please please AVOID posting new threads OR posting within threads stating anything along the lines of "my counter reached 0 and nothing happened!" or "this is all a big joke because my counter is counting up now!' and such unthinking statements... those statements will probably, I'm guessing, be the theme of the trout anthem tomorrow...

Another thing - didn't see this mentioned in the announcement thread -

is anonymous posting still allowed? Or is that being disabled for the time being as well? (please please please disable anonymous posting! At least at this time there's nothing wrong in saying that if someone wants to contribute to the discussions they should register first - this is now one of the only, if not the only forum I'm a part of that actually allows anonymous posting, and this is even a dedicated, theme-based, heavily moderated forum, and that really surprised me when I first joined)

I don't think it's too much to ask that people register if they want to post... it'll knock down the posts from people who just want to rant about the game, or make fun of it, or post one-time trout and such...

Anonymous posting is still allowed, and we'd like to keep it that way, but if things are getting out of hand, we may decide to change that. As for the ability to start new threads, that has been disabled for all forum visitors except mods and admins.

If there will be lots of new stuff (ILB site updates, new websites, etc.) a mod will create new threads for them in which everyone can post. All things axon-related can be discussed in the special axon-forum we temporarily created.
