Just want to say that I'm lurking a bit here, though I've contacted Pali and applied for the EMA job. Just haven't been logged in here at the Unforums to say as much.

Nothing much to say about my correspondence with Pali so far, other than we're exchanging riddles and that she's currently reading 'Frankenstein', hoping to learn something about Humanity.

Since the opposite is meant, the solution should be
"I am ill, Love, Your Father".

No I wonder if Kite's father is ill or her mother (as stated in Dengo's blog) or even both?

The clue is "opposite(<-- ill) in the first clown's reply." The opposite of ill is well. Furthermore, it is not a letter to Kite, but to Nics, who is supposed to be an orphan. Shocking. Smile

Oh you are right about Nics. Mixed it up Embarassed
So this means Nics is not an orphan. Cool.

[EDIT] And it makes sense to take "well" as the final solution by interpreting this as a hint to take the opposite of "ill".
I first thought we should take the opposite of well and this will result in ill.

Well, that is confusing Confused

Will adjust the wiki.

Sorry double post, but I thought we should inform Pali. I sent this email:

AUZ505 wrote:

Hi Pali,

you won't believe it. There was indeed a hidden message in this strange letter.
And the message is "I am well, Love, Your Father"!

Isn't that unbelieveable. You have written that Nics is an orphan. Now it seems that this is not true.
Not sure if you should tell Nics about it. I guess EMA is not telling the truth all the time.
If Nics could not deal with this, there may be a big problem, because EMA will find out about you mailing with other people.

If you want details, how we found that message I can sent it to you.

AUZ505

I have not mentioned that we found Dengo's blog and that EMA is censoring their mails and that Kite's mother is ill.
But perhaps we should tell Pali all this. Your opinions?

New quest: Help Nics contact her father

There is an update in Pali's blog.

In our email conversations, we talked whether she should tell Nics. I recommended that Nics should blog more, and said that Nics should have a voice about it, at least a chance to find out. Pali describes her reaction as:

Pali wrote:
Yeah, I told Nics. She went... She kind of freaked out completely. But then she was ok. I think she was really happy, but it was hard to tell. But then, I think, she feels bad that her dad rejected her for so long. But I told her, he must have a very good reason.
She says she wants to write something on my blog about it, so...

Now Nics asks for our help. She is obviously aggravated by her father (it seems to be a father) situation, but wants to contact him.
So, our next task, due to the fact that their communication is censored, is to design an encrypted message similar to the one her 'father' used.

Nics wrote:
I need your help, please.
I have to write a letter to my Dad.
But Pali says there must be a good reason he's using code, and I think she's right.
We have to make it look like a reply to the Dedicated Shakespeare Association.
But coded in it, somehow - "I miss you. Where are you?"
Do you guys know how to do that?

OoG I'd like to develop a more complex code, but I proposed using the same coding, because in game we want her father to understand the code easily. And this being such a team effort game, i propose we each come up with a line of shakesperean code (from her site) to form the code.

I
MISS
YOU
.
WHERE
ARE
YOU
?

OK, first here the reply from Pali regarding Nics father:

Pali wrote:

Oh
My

Oh my god.
Wow.
I have to tell Nics. I think she deserves to know. I'll make her keep quiet about it. I think she has to know.
EMA might not know she's not an orphan... I'm not sure how they found her. Then again, why wouldn't her father just send her a letter, unless he didn't want EMA to know...?
I'll see what Nics says.

Has someone already told her abour Dengo's blog and the censoring?

Second, Ahmed got a reply from Paulo:

Paulo wrote:

I'm sorry, I think you have the wrong address.
Cheers.

But attached was the following encrypted message:

Ahmed! Is that really you? Is this email address safe?
Why are you behaving like this? I'm doing the best I can. I'm completely aware of the implications. I, at least, am trying. Why am I the one who is always being attacked?
It's Alex you should be angry with. He has the easy job in this issue, and yet, he cannot organize anything practical. You and I were in agreement about this... Or do you forget so easily?

I will send the actual status to Jib.

New quest: Help Nics contact her father

I could not sleep. so, when looking at some lines in Hamlet, i came up with this idea, changing the instance of FIVE to a different number for each word in the message

For each line of Hamlet, the letter gives a number in CAPS, which is the number of the word in that line to put in the decoded message.
Very simple, if the letter says "in act 2 scene 2 line 54 king claudius says to polonius that there are EIGHT things he wants to hear", sends us to "O, speak of that; that do I long to hear." and the word LONG is the EIGHTH

the message is
Quote:

I LONG FOR YOU. WHERE ARE YOU

Here is the letter:

"dear mr. brown,
thank you for examining my question. i would like to expand on the same research. However, now I believe "FIVE" is just one of several motifs presented in the play.
for example, ophelia says "my lord, I have remembrances of yours" but, I can only see ONE such motif in act 3 scene 1 line 104. then they multiply. for example, in act 2 scene 2 line 54 king claudius says to polonius that there are EIGHT things he wants to hear, then SEVEN, as seen in hamlet's speech in act 3 scene 4 line 140.
but if i understand correctly what ophelia is looking for, its much simpler, as I see only ONE motif starting in act 1 scene 1 line 7 as well as in act 4 scene 5 line 24 and only TWO in act 4 scene 7 line 120. However, my theory is surely wrong because there are no more until the very END of act 5 Scene 2 line 292… what would you advise?
sincerely,
nicola
"

We could also add the lines of shakespeare down there with the reference of 5 and see what does Pali prefers. Smile

EDIT, corrected an extra line.
EDIT, I sent a message to pali regarding her knowledge of Dengo's blog

Sorry I don not understand it or it seems you have some errors in it:
ONE act 3 scene 1 line 104: I
EIGHT act 2 scene 2 line 54: long
SEVEN act 2 scene 2 line 54 (again!?): I
NINE act 2 scene 2 line 9: put !?
ONE act 1 scene 1 line 7: You
ONE act 4 scene 5 line 24: Where
TWO act 4 scene 7 line 120: are
END act 5 scene 2 line 292: you

RE: AUZ505

In re: AUZ505, true, i posted my early draft. It is corrected on the edited letter up there.

ONE 3 scene 1 line 104
EIGHT act 2 scene 2 line 54
SEVEN act 3 scene 4 line 140
ONE act 1 scene 1 line 7 & 4 scene 5 line 24
TWO act 4 scene 7 line 120
END act 5 Scene 2 line 292

Also, based on your comments on Dengo's blog, I assume In game we can start an interaction and share any information, right? or in game, how are we all supposed to know each other? I know... newbie questions Smile

Answer from Jib. I told him the actual status and asked if we should communicate in code as Ahmed.

jib wrote:

Yeah, I was told you guys were going to buzz me.
I really don't know what I'm doing assigned to this.
I really don't know who you guys are.
But whatever.

Hmm.
Probs just communicated in code cause he didn't know the address.
Well, give him a whack back in code, and see if he sends code back at you.
I dunno what they normally do, cause they cover their tracks pretty damn well.

and a new email from Pali. I asked her if she could imagine, that EMA is censoring their mails.

Pali wrote:

No... Not really.
What would they do that for?
What would our parents send us that is bad for EMA? They're the ones that let us come here.

and finally

Not sure what you mean. Just come into the chat:

I'll be around for some time Smile

on Nics 'father'

I've been in contact with Nics, sent her the coded message, and my concerns about her 'father'...

ixbalam wrote:

(...)and life changes...but like with all changes, it may be for the better. Its all about the plot points in the story of our lives right? But you are there, in the Centre, and I dont even know if you like it. If you want to talk some, send a line here anytime.
For instance: You don't know me, but I know your words. You have not heard of me, but I've heard your voice. What if something similar is happening with the person who is contacting you?
And very importantly, can you think of a way you could be sure it is your father?

Nics has responded:

nics wrote:

I think I'll change the capitals to italics, just so it looks a bit more normal.
I don't know if it's my father.
How can I know?
I can't know.
The more I think about it, the more I think maybe it's not my father.
My father wouldn't NOT CONTACT me for five years.
But then, why would someone want to pretend to be my father?
And even more, why would someone want to pretend to be my father, if they don't want anything from me?
But I have to try and contact whoever it is.
What if it is my father? And I don't?
I'll be careful.

I have asked wether she remembers anything at all about childhood? something only her father would know, perhaps?

nics wrote:

It is frustrating!
I don't remember anything. I don't remember my childhood, I don't remember my parents, I don't know anything before a goddamn hospital. And by then they were gone.
I wonder if I have a mother....
I will keep contact, and I will find out as much as I can. If they're not my father... If looks could kill...
Thank you for your well wishes. It's nice to have someone outside of everything looking out for you.
The letter you gave me looks great. Do I have the ok to print it and send it?

what do you guys think?

on cryptic songs and seeing things black

On my communications with PALI, we talked about why would Nics' 'dad' would write in code, which took us to censorship, and then I've hinted about the existence of Dengo's blog, because she has enough clues to find out on her own.
for instance:
ixbalam wrote:

what do you think about that situation... do you think its really her father? and more importantly... why would he send her a coded message and not just go through EMA and tell them, 'hey i wanna say hi to my daughter'.?

pali wrote:

I have no idea why Nics' dad used code - I don't know anymore than you do about that. Can't think of a reason, except maybe, in case the letter was intercepted? I don't know.

ixbalam wrote:

About the letter being intercepted, yeah, that is the only reasonable conclusion, her 'dad' doesnt want the message intercepted because he believes EMA censors your letter. That makes sense, they dont want you in contact with the outside world anyway, right?

Well, that brings me to talk about Dengo... remember how I told you that Kite's music was quite cryptic... well, listen to his songs, really carefully. Think binary, and consider why would Dengo make a tape over the songs... remember how I told you, that his music took me to some very interesting places... two of them, if fact.
Do tell me when you find it... be discreet...know that by now, i have made a connection with you and truly wish you the best and worry a bit for you.

pali wrote:

Ok, creepy, creepy.
This is creeping me out.
Why has everyone jumped on the censored mail band wagon all of sudden? I've never heard anything that would suggest that the whole time I've been in here.

Your whole last paragraph is "cryptic". Why do I get the feeling there something someone else knows that I don't?
I'll take a look at Kite's music.
I'm kind of scared of what I'll find.
Creepy.

ixbalam wrote:

To some, ignorance is bliss. To others, knowledge is worth the price.

Best wishes. I have to leave now. best wishes on your paths, as always.

We'll see if the PM's want her to find out.

In the meantime, I've contacted AUZ In game through Dengo's blog, and recieved some pointers towards spea. and am trying to find a way to get Dengo to tell me what he doesn't believe Pali will understand. Confused
