The Operator?

I just want to have this verified.

It isn't the wav file name or "Melissa."

please verify so the rest of us can help the axons go hot!

To find out what to do go to:
Ninja Blog

There now appear to be TWO messages - one asking for her NAME, another asking for her NICKNAME!

Name = Melissa
Nickname = Operator

Answer the question you are asked.
There is some debate about whether the codeword is needed, but giving it in response to a request for your name has worked for others.

I'm guessing that since this is from the 24th century, tuna might be a rare delicacy.

Good thinking. Now another definition to mull over:

Durga, "goddess of war; a malevolent aspect of Devi; 'the inaccessible'"

I had friends at the 8:59 Union Square axon... but it hasn't connected. I don't know what happened there.

I was at Union Square and had a friend at Menlo Park for the next slot (actually Palo Alto train station). At Union Square Addict took the call, heard the message, said Melissa (in response to her nickname?) three times, but was dissconnected. There was a lot of ambient noise so it may have been a factor.

AIMing with my friend in Palo Alto he said the guy who took the call just heard the question for his name and tried "our hoodlums" three times before being dissconnected - make of that what you will.

Anyways I'll repeat the warning for folks not to bother with the 2nd Menlo Park location it is definitely a decoy - no phones anywhere!

Re: Janissary

atrokrafek wrote:
The word 'janissary,' the first name of the girl in yes_or_no and pqi means "A member of a group of elite, highly loyal supporters." I can see why the guy finds it interesting.

It's even more interesting than that. Back in the late 14th century, a Janissary was a member of an elite Turkish unit that guarded the Ottoman sultan and his household. They were originally made up of non-Muslim war captives and slaves, and later of young men taken from their homes at an early age.

The Janissaries were subject to strict rules, limiting their freedom and demanding higher than usual moral standards. For example, they had to convert to Islam, they were not permitted to grow beards, and (for the first couple of hundred years) they had to be celibate. On the other hand, they received certain privileges and benefits, such as tax exemption, a high standard of living, social status, and respect.

Over the years, the Janissaries grew more and more powerful, demanding pay raises and even dictating government policy. In the early 19th century, they revolted against the sultan, but they lost and were all either killed in battle, executed, or banished. Nowadays, the term sometimes refers more generally to any soldier in a privileged military class. It can even mean -- as you have pointed out -- any loyal supporter, e.g. of a politician.

Yeah. But now I think parasite-eyes is not directly related to our_hoodlums-guilty-tuna.

And there's something very special about Jan James. Her father's a very well trained military someone. And how does Jersey know them? Neighbors? Friends? What facility did Jan infiltrate?

Durga is the HINDU goddess of war. I thought that may add something to mythology.

Complete and utter speculation

Is there any chance that what we are hearing from the .wav files isn't just audio? I realize that it's unlikely that there is video to go with it, or they wouldn't be giving such detailed descriptions of what's going on around them. Reminds me of old radio plays.

On second thought, ignore everything I just said. I think I just answered my own speculation...

Even three: jersey->reflected->durga
sound like they make perfect sense in that order but the beginning is still missing.

So I've been trying to arrange the various clips into related sequences. I haven't started on a master chronology, but here's what I've come up with so far. I'd appreciate other people's thoughts.

walkaway_girl, nervous, pqi, yes_or_no.
our_hoodlums, say_something, guilty, tuna.
parasites, eyes (is this related to anything else so far?).
dizzy, jersey, reflected, durga.
