Well, the 3D is cool, but really seems like a step backwards to me. I remember going to Disney a very long time ago and they had gray lensed glasses that made AMAZING 3D and didn't have any loss of quality. With these glasses, the image seemed much darker and pure whites had blue color overtones. Anyone else's views?
This is true, but the movie wont be presented using this technology. They only used these glasses because they were cheap. Dreamworks was going to invest in the Disney shades and give them away in super markets.
I think the 3-D in the theaters will be at least equal to the Disney stuff if not better.

Let me just say the imagery without the glasses almost burned my retinas.

Oh! Alright, that sounds much better. I thought that this blue/orange stuff was what they were trying to pass off as the "most amazing new 3D technology". So that's cool. I'll definitely give the 3D movie a chance then. (And on an off topic related note, I'm going to see My Bloody Valentine in 3D on Wednesday. I can only guess that mixing B-movie horror with 3D will be the most splentacular thing evar.)

Your retinas deserved it...
EDIT: New Tweet from Jeff:

Receiving anonymous reports that there was something hidden in a 3D commercial during halftime.
Did anyone see anything? I didn't notice anything I thought was viral related.

Well it did show the Insectasaurus. Other than that, I didn't think so.
The commercial is here: http://www.hulu.com/superbowl/55706/super-bowl-xliii-ads-monsters-vs-aliens-trailer

When they show the two guys at the beginning of the commercial, there is, what appears to be a sticker with the Top Secret Conspiracy logo on the laptop. I have no idea if that's what he's talking about.

Holy crap I didn't notice that till you mentioned it.
Apparently Hulu is an evil plot to destroy the world, at least that's what the commercial I just saw says.

Yesh the 'grey' glasses are for the polarized 3D technology... the left/right images are combined on the screen, but their light is polarized horizontal and vertical, so the left and right lenses only let in one or the other.
So it's like L/R = red/blue (least colour) or yellow/blue (pseudo full colour?) or horiz/vert (real colour, but a little darker)
polarized 3d costs more (polarized lenses and special projectors), which is why that's used in theatres, and it produces true full colour imagery... the others don't, but can be watched anywhere (thus the colorcode3d glasses for home use).

It should also be noted that the guy he turns around and talks to is named Jerry ...

All I can say about the glasses is that I kept jerking my head backwards when the dude was playing with that ping pong ball.
I didn't catch anything unusual in the ad unfortunately.
