Straightforward. Translate them down to numbers. Looks like 2 through 0 on the keyboard, shift keys on. See where it goes from there.
Just switching the shift gives us:
9437845857389247
483984573920487947
38746203409875-439
9084-374039-#&@$*0283
84984972-0472
8-7-7835737-48-
Which is still garbage to me, but might mean something?

^ Got that too, but there's another part to it...

some of those don't shift down (like - and + for instance) so i'm not totally sure what that gives us. what's with the numbers that are left alone? seems like there's more to it. :-\

Got the adam.ctrl emails too. But I've been trolling him, first replying with O RLY and then with me repeating RAPE RAPE RAPE for a couple of lines.
Here are his replies.

Someone posted about it in the "Is this SPAM?" thread. I don't think they got anywhere with it, though.

As you can tell from my post count, I'm new to this sort of thing (hello!) but I've noticed that there's ten different characters used in the message (excluding the numbers and the commas at the end). Perhaps these characters correspond to numerical digits?
Don't know if that helps...

the character frequency distribution suggests that it isn't a simple substitution - too evenly distributed for english (would need a larger sample to be sure). The only numbers (37248) could be a reference to a zip code which lands in the middle of Nashville.

Leyton, where have you been?
And I am sure that the symbols are some sort of substitution.

After shifting the symbols to numbers on the first message, I tried pairing the numbers and doing a frequency count since many ciphers use paired numbers. Nothing really jumped out at me. 39 and 84 come out as winners for frequency so they could represent E and S. Here it is anyway:
94 37 84 58 57 38 92 47
48 39 84 57 39 20 48 79 47
38 74 62 03 40 98 75 -4 39
90 84 -3 70 39 -3 72 48 02 83
84 98 40 72 -0 47 28 -7 -7 83 57 37 -4 8-,,,
