Jumping into this one after hearing the last "sound sample" posted to the blog.

The song is indeed "Mad World". The song was originally recorded by Tears for Fears, but the version he's got is a cover by Michael Andrews and Gary Jules, recorded for the movie Donnie Darko. (You've all seen Donnie Darko, right? Laughing ) It's the very beginning of the song, the lyrics are:

"All around me are familiar faces
Worn out places, worn out faces
Bright and ... "

The continuation of the cut-off line is
"... early for their daily races
Going nowhere, going nowhere"

Here's my take: if there was no noise coming from the object when it was in the air, and we heard garbled stuff coming from it when it was in water, it seems that the object is broadcasting on a frequency outside normal human hearing. The water served to change the frequencies, lowering them enough we could hear something. I'm going to write him and suggest putting it in some other liquids of different densities, see (or rather hear) what happens.

Donnie Darko = AMAZING

Although, I only just saw it for the first time a few months ago...^^;

ETA: Good idea! Perhaps we should send him a new camera too XD I tried searching for "Mad World," and came up with a Wii game set to release in March, but it doesn't really fit. It's all blood and gore and a total fighting game, whereas the message from the last video seemed to be a distress call from an army/militia/group of people on a mission.

Almost positive this has nothing to do with Gears of War. As others have noted, the song is older than the GOW commercial.

Blasphemy! Razz

Sent Adam an email:

Adam -

Ran across your blog about the weird object you found ... I must say, I'm intrigued. I was especially interested in the last post you made, the audio clip in the "More Audio" blog entry. Where exactly did that come from? Is it from the object when it was under water?

If so, it seems like the object may be projecting sound that we can't hear normally, but the water screwed with the frequencies such that we could hear something. Maybe you could try putting the object in some other liquids with different densities, vegetable oil maybe, to see if the sounds get any clearer.

Just a thought. I'm following this little mystery with interest!

His response:

Well that's an interesting idea, to say the least. I was actually going to try and do something similar this weekend, but more focused on the frequency side. My dad is big into HAM radio, so i was going to try and set the object close to his antenna and scroll the signals, see if it is broadcasting onto a frequency of sorts. But I'll definitely try the veggie oil this weekend, I'm sure we have some around the house.

Adam

Wow, I feel a little silly suggesting vegetable oil when he's got access to HAM equipment ... Embarassed

Hey, every little clue helps! Who knows, maybe the messages come through crystal clear with vegetable oil Wink

New post on Adam's blog suggesting that the object is a recording device of some sort?

Crap...looks like Adam's blog got hacked. All the text is (I'm guessing) in code now...anyone know how to translate it? I'm gonna try it on my own, but help is appreciated ^^

Also, there's a link to a page with an interesting image...http://wirebcze.50webs.com/

ETA: Okay, the source code on the linked page contains a quote: "if the stars should appear one night in a thousand years, how would men believe and adore, and preserve for many generations the remembrance of the city of God which had been shown! but every night come out these envoys of beauty, and light the universe with their admonishing smile."

From Nature by Ralph Waldo Emerson

As far as the "coding" of his blog ... I have no clue. I know next to nothing about codebreaking; it all looks like gibberish to me. Doesn't seem to bear any relationship to what was on the blog before.

Thank you, B Quad! ^^

Although I am still unskilled in most types of codes (I learned Enigma last time!), it doesn't look like any code I've ever seen...maybe just a text scrambler??

Gonna concentrate on the linked page for now, try to desteg the image...

And "The Tangent Universe" is another Donnie Darko reference.

Hi, Toasty! Thanks for the help, apparently I need to watch that movie again XD

That's two Darko references...could this possibly be for the straight-to-DVD sequel, S. Darko?

ETA: Just consulted this, and a Darko game is looking more and more likely...you've got the Artifact (Franklin), the interaction of water and metal (the barrier and transitional elements), and then there's this quote from the book: "If an Artifact occurs, the Living will retrieve it with great interest and curiosity."
