His peculiar manner of evading most questions, or answering in a somewhat robotic fashion, reminds me of Oscar in Tom Holt's You Don't Have to Be Evil to Work Here, But It Helps (which I've just finished reading).

Music education, and it's in progress. But more than enough to compose a real rouser. Mariah Carey will be brought to the island strictly to sing the National Anthem at sporting events. At all other times, there will be a cage in the zoo for her. She's really not capable of surviving in the wild.
