It's weird though that nobody's given us any sort of update. Everyone seemed pretty excited about this. I just wanna know what happened! Star hasn't even updated her blog yet!

She's been updating frequently on Facebook, but still nothing concrete.

 Here's what happened to Star...
A hijack of the hijack of the hijack!!!

Star went to Dundas Square, was quickly 'abducted' and was whisked away from all the various pending hijack attempts - basically, the ultimate hijack... Here's a video of what happened:

www.coloncloseparenthesis.com

Star will post what specifically happened in the next day or so...

But she's safe and sound, and luved every minute of it. There were unmaskings, unexpected surprises, tremendous brilliance, and tremendous lameness (looking your way William)...

whatever. We had a "player" who was "abducted" in-game once before. That instance was part of a story where the player, who was very well-liked, and lived near the in-game location, went to check it out for us. She then disappeared. It didn't work well at all. In fact, it pretty much infuriated everyone who was around at the time. The game was called AWARE if you want to look for it in the archives.

AWARE had a story though, so that the players participated. This seems to be a personal game designed just for Star, so, again, whatever. I'm sure SpaceBass doesn't mind providing the forum space here for it. Smile

Actually, not that I am in charge of the rules or TOS and God knows it is discussed enough, but once Star definitely became part of the game, she probably can't post about it....maybe that is why she hasn't? I know that if I were in her place I wouldn't post about it here any longer, at least while it is still running.

(I was rooting for the marriage proposal myself. That would have been so sweet.)

She's been posting on her Facebook profile and her blog. Her latest post:

OK, it's official: I'm confused as hell.

Oh, I meant she isn't posting here because she can't - not that she isn't posting anywhere about whatever it is that happened. Sorry I wasn't clear.

edit:
Oh I guess I was wrong. I suppose time allowed to update other stuff but not here.

Hey rose!

Just to clarify, the reason I have not been posting is that I have not had access to the internet accept through my iPhone which is a bit limited for in depth information. I wanted to make sure that I got all of the information in order before sharing it here, as I think that the ARGers deserve a well laid out explanation! I was updating Twitter only recently (and it links to Facebook) so I was keeping people informed in the best way possible with limited access.

That is a really good point about me not being able to post when I am playing characters, and I tried to keep it all straight here on the forums (although it was a bit confusing on the whole!)

I would love to hear your feedback on the game (and anyone else's) as I found it so interesting and it seems many more people were drawn into it too! It is also interesting that there is still a bit of a mystery, with William still being an unknown variable!

As for hijacks and kidnapping, it went over quite well and provided a great experience for all involved, I am not sure why anyone would have a problem with 'abduction' especially in the case of AWARE, but I think it was pretty cool and added an extra layer of excitement!

Thanks!

Star

DISCLAIMER: The following assumes that Star was playing a character as stated in this game.

Star,

Allow me to try to explain. I don't come to uF to *play* ARG's. I don't come here to talk to *characters* or get *clues* from them. For me these forums are my escape from Alternate Reality (Gaming). They are here to inform me of the latest and greatest projects, find out if someone has finally broken a code I have been banging my head against the wall with, collaborate on everything with everyone, and talk to friends.

That is my reality. Those are my boundaries. And believe me, if I would accept a phone call at 3am by some spooky voice and call it "cool" then it's not like I have lots of them. So the few I have I do hold dear. And this game intruded on my boundaries, it attempted to play itself in my sandbox forcefully.

So now what? When I talk to Star here from now on will I be talking to a real life game developer in Canada or to some character from a game? If I meet up with you at ARGFest am I going to be talking to a colleague or will I have well-rehearsed script spoken back at me?

You see the problem here? And that's why I really don't care what W.O.W. has to say. I wanted to find W.O.W. with my group, not have him post here. I wanted to discover your character's blog in a trailhead or a clue, not have the entries posted from your character as an "update" to the story, and once again, here.

That was the problem with AWARE and that's the problem with this. I hope this makes sense.

Hey ndemeter!

I understand what you are saying here and I apologize for breaking the rules.

Just to clarify though, although I was playing some of the roles, I did hijack the game and the original trailhead posts were all a mystery to me. In fact, I thought it was a game for everyone and that other people would have received the same package, which is why I posted here in the first place. William is and seems destined to remain, a mystery...

Also, although I understand what you are saying (and I am sorry for breaking the rules) I don't really agree with your concern about meeting me in the future etc... I think a part of being involved in ARG's is that anything can happen. People you meet at ARGfest could very well be characters. These games are designed to reach out to you in every aspect of your life. People work hard in these games to make the 'alternate reality' hard to distinguish from 'reality'. I think if you have a problem with the idea of not knowing if someone is a 'real' person or an ARG character, you might want to reconsider your hobby.

Again, I am not saying this to justify my breaking the rules. I was unaware of this specific issue and in the beginning I did not come into this game with the intention of hijacking it, after the choice was made to do so, it all moved so fast I was just trying to keep my ducks in a row and made a mistake in relation to this particular venue for which I am sorry! I will not force myself into your sandbox again! Smile

Sincerely,

Star

I'm sure someone smarter than I am can tease out the flaw in this statement, but it rings false to me. You're claiming that there's no safe place for the posters on Unfiction? For the attendees of ARGFest? Just because there are people here posting (or lurking, hi!), they should automatically be subjected to a blurring of their boundaries without their consent, even in a place previously agreed upon as safe, and if they don't like it, they should get another hobby? That's pretty aggressive.

I hope I am not coming off as being on the attack - I'm not! Just trying to spur conversation. I wonder if this would be better off in the meta forum?
