Still trying to make sense of the Three Blokes bit.

For the email code, it was mostly just guessing and substituting. I couldn't find a pattern, but brute force seems to work better for me anyway. ^^

About the latest comment on the blog... I thought Porter was "afriend" and "who?" was someone else, maybe the Doctor? It's confusing enough they can switch around on schrecknet, I hope they don't start doing that on the comments too.

Meh - you could be right about it being Netchurch. I probably said Porter as a generic term, and didn't actually mean to refer to him. Or simply assumed it was him, since he responded to the email about it first.. Dunno

There is a new code up.

"Saq gbwa aob saq pqlj aqolrsaobtp vl pr hbh. Yaqs jatl lq saq iolkpq kbd cobkd jaqs. Yaqs aob qljhapelqp. Yaqs aob ehbpqcakcb. Yaqs aob wbybhp mbsdoat kbd wbybhp eaqocq. Yaqs aob ylaoauka'p taoktlk kbd chga ubjmcoap yaqs trpg rol cvha'p ehlld." - Eaqqa Dbucp

I figured out some key words and then used google to get the rest. It matches up well, except I can't figure out the cipher that was used. Letters that are the same in the plaintext are coded with different cipher letters, which I think means it has to be a polyalphabetic cipher, no?

Here's what I think it translates to:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
The weak are the most treacherous of us all. They come to the strong and drain them. They are bottomless. They are insatiable. They are always parched and always bitter. They are everyone's concern and like vampires they suck out life's blood. - Bette Davis

I'll take a look at the cipher tomorrow - going to bed right now. In case it wasn't there when the post first came up - there is a link in the middle of the message to a .jpg titled "I need blood".

Anyway, I just wanted to post the reply from Netchurch I got.
I can't decide if he's got an awesome sense of humor for a Malkavian, or if he's demented beyond normal Malkies.... Laughing

Interesting comment. I suppose if I had more information about her I would be able to make my own decision about whether or not it would be unnatural.
Do you suppose dear Doctor, you could at least tell me what it is about her that would make it so?

LOL - talk about random!

New blog post 7 is up.

There's a new code posted as well:
Quote:
{A-L|B-J|C-A|D-C|E-N|F-O|G-R|H-G|I-B|J-Q|K-D|
L-P|M-E|N-H|O-M|P-I|Q-S|R-T|S-U|T-K|U-F}

It looks really similar to a code that was posted early on. As you recall, that was the one that yochanan finally figured out, but we offered it too late. It was the warning to Jon to get out of his apartment. I tried that approach with it as well, but I think I'm missing a step somewhere following yochanan's steps.
So, I've tried a few other things:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):

At first glance, it looks like a substitution cipher key - so naturally I ran the recent garbled email through it - no dice. I know yochanan solved it - but I thought maybe we got it wrong if this was a key. But not.
Converted letters to numbers:
{1-12|2-10|3-1|4-3|5-14|6-15|7-18|8-7|9-2|10-17|11-4|12-16|13-5|14-8|15-13|16-9|17-19|18-20|19-21|20-11|21-6}
and then added them, like the last code:
13 / 12 / 4 / 7 / 19 / 21 / 25 / 15 / 11 / 27 / 15 / 28 / 18 / 22 / 28 / 25 / 36 / 38 / 40 / 31 / 27
then removed the duplicates and counted them as separators:
13-12-4-7-19-21
11-27
18-22
36-38-40-31-27
And that's where I'm stuck. I've no idea how you converted that information (with or without removing the duplicates) yochie. You've definitely got a better handle on these things lol.

Hopefully someone else with this, and maybe I saved them a bit of work. I would like to know the solve for it however.

@jki6783 - now's your chance! Wink

On the old one, I think the numbers were just put together side by side, not added together. The number you got from that was an ascii code, which spelled out the message. It doesn't work on this one, some of the numbers are too high.

Haven't come close to figuring this one out myself, but I did notice this:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
The first letter in each pair goes in alphabetical order, from A - U, and the second letters also go from A - U only scrambled. Makes it seem more like an answer to a code than a code itself.

That's why at first I suspected it was a key for a substitution cipher, because of the order it went in. Good eye though. Isn't it your turn to solve one of these? Laughing

==EDIT== 3/5/09 @ 4:48pm MST
@yochanan - I posted your solution to the garbled email on β. I wonder if they were/are waiting for it?

I got an email from shrecknet:

Quote:
Come now. That is $UBj3(7 70 1|\|73rPr374710|\|. 0|-|, d34r, $0/\/\37|-|1|\|9 1$ $3r10U$ \/\/r0|\|9. 7|-|3 Ph4Br1( 0Ph r34L17'/ 1Z b31|\|9 r3|\|D3r3D...

That translates to:
come now. that is subject to interpretation. oh, dear, something is serious wrong. the fabric of reality iz being rendered...

In case you have trouble reading leet speak, here is a translator to play with:

I also got an email from Shrecknet:
Quote:
7|-|3 \/\/34|<R><0r 0U7 L1Ph3'$ bL00D.

|-|0\/\/ d1D j00Z |<0>< |-|4$ d1$rUP73D 7|-|3 U|\|1\/3r$3, 4|\|D \/\/3'LL |-|4\/3 70 r1D3 17 0U7.

Which translates to:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
the weak are the most treacherous of us all. they come to the strong and drain them. they are bottomless. they are insatiable. they are always parched and always bitter. they are everyone's concern and like vampires they suck out life's blood.

how did you know?

the time paradox has disrupted the universe, and we'll have to ride it out.

I'm unsure if they're simply repeating back what the email is, or if they're confirming that it's correct.
How did I know? Know what? Shocked I never told anyone about that time when....*cough* .. nm

And to the time paradox again. But ride it out? I'm reminded of that movie Groundhog Day, combined with a few sci-fi stories - where until the correct action is taken, things will continue repeating themselves.
In our case, with slightly different results, in different parallel universes.
I could see that we somehow missed something important when we first followed the rabbit down the hole, but with the most recent universe - we've barely gotten into the story! I think we must be missing something critical - but then it doesn't seem like we're able to do a lot initially either. Our contact with any party is very limited - Porter/Netchurch never remember us off the bat. The first time - Porter spent a lot of time asking us to trust him. This time - we basically railroaded him, expecting it/him to be the same; to help, give input etc. But as we saw he was pretty stand-offish with us. However, Netchurch is very active this time. Where as the first time around - he was more or less an NPC/part of the story and not with an active role.

I'm going to reply to Netchurch and see if I can glean anything from him - assuming his response is able to be understood.. Laughing

I sent an email to the good Dr. last night asking who was the one in need of blood & here was my response :
Quote:

(4|\|'7 j00z $33 W|-|47'$ 901|\|9 0|\|?
Can't you see what's going on?

@yochann- did u send an email to shrecknet to get ur response? If so, may I ask what it said...

New post up (new code too) & an answer to ur question wulf -

Who? Says: The wording is confused, the code almost inscrutable.

It's getting late... I think I'll try to work on this tomorrow w/ a clear head...

In my email to shrecknet, I just pasted in the Bette Davis quote, and then asked "who are the weak ones in this situation?"

Heh - good catch. Apparently it didn't paste the entire message, it only posted the last line. Here's the complete email:

Had to disable HTML to get it to post correctly. I haven't had a chance to look at the new one yet - but since today promises to be slow at work, I'll definitely do so.

rxor is 1337 for suck. :p As in "to suck" as in to not be good. It's a 1337 translator.

The "rxor" was a result of HTML being enabled with the first post of that email - so it didn't display properly. Instead of reading
Quote:
R><0r

it should have read:
Quote:
$U><0r
which translates to "suxor" which then translates to "sucks".

I don't think rxor is actually anything - but the closest would be r0><><0r (I think is how you do it) = which essentially is "rocks". Anyway .. 'nuff 1337 for the day.
