Makes sense... solid theory.

Alright, I'm not sure if the message is complete, but I found the other parts:
20444554 = DET
41494E20 = AIN
464F5220 = FOR
51554553 = QUES
4C454252 = LEBR
4154494F = ATIO

EDIT: Yep, we have the final message:
SURVEILLANCE ACTIVE @ CELEBRATION. INTERCEPT AND DETAIN FOR QUESTIONING.

...and now to figure out what it means -_-

OK, so you all were mentioning Orlando, and there's a place called Celebration in Florida right outside of orlando.... so apparently something was going down there that needed detaining?

*sighs* I can't wait Smile

So, 104622534426624 bytes? That works out to about 95 terrabytes... who the hell has two files with a size of 95 tB? Maybe there's a message hidden in there somewhere?

Note that the serial number (0065-5321) is the same as what we saw in the BSOD last time.

(I'm assuming DTI Corp is DecepTech Industries Corporation.)

ETA:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Converting to ASCII gives LF.SYN5,SUB>EOF and based on the fact that it contains a LF (line feed) and an EOF (end of file), could it be anything?
I found that SYN5 is a virus (short tailed cyanophage or summin)...
I really do doubt this is anything ^_^

No doubt it's something (the first part).

Let's pretend we're looking at a DOS screen. What to do now? It's sitting there waiting for a command. The only way to interact with this is through the url line, like a puzzle trail. I've tried just throwing a couple DOS commands into the end of the url, like
http://deceptech.com/cd
and what happens is that the 404 error handler sends me back to the home page. That's fairly easy to do. The same thing happens if you tack a .htm or .html on the end of it. However... if you put something in front, like the firewalls do, e.g. cd.deceptech.com, you get the generic site not found. Makes sense.

Sorry this is a bit random. The muscle relaxer makes me groggy. Do any of you think we might be looking for a DOS command, and if so, how can we feed it to the page?

Ideas, even if harebrained, please?

Rather good point. Let's deconstruct the DOS:

From what I can see, someone's getting the directory info of the D:\Websites\DTI\CorpV1 folder.
The folder appears to be empty.
The previous directory has two subdirectories.
One of these is obviously CorpV1, maybe the other is CorpV2? Backup? It seems we need to find this.
Therefore, the DOS would be: CD ..\<name> or CD D:\Websites\DTI\<name>
Shall try this now.

Oh, should this be spoilered?

Quick question for the codemonkeys. Would it be possible to write an error handler for the 404 error that would parse the input generated by a page not found and do something? I'm pretty sure you can retrieve the bad url, I know you can parse it, but do you have any flexibility in handling besides pointing at a specific page? Could you, fer instance, point the error at a script (page) that would then redirect?

Been a long time since I looked at a DOS screen, but I don't think so. If memory serves, the <DIR> .. just tells you how far down the chain you are.

Would the first work? I know cd .. would take you up a level. BTW the colon character is reserved in html, I think. And you can't use a dot, can you? I mean that's a separator between levels of the url.

Nah, it's just spec so far.

And just so you know what to expect...

Where'd that come from? I.e. How'd you get there.
nvm.

That sort of negates the whole page so far. Take a big black MagicMarker and draw an X on your computer screen.

Should have mentioned this earlier, but the size has decreased by 512 bytes to 104622534426112. The cigar.txt's size is 8 bytes.

That's actually consistent. Disc sector size = 512. nvm that DOS can't address that much disc space... I think we may be getting auto updates here. I wish I knew if I was having fun yet. Very Happy

Ugh. This is confusing me. I think I've analysed too many different combinations of the bytes to stay conscious right now. I've tried finding the size of the files on the CD, alternatively taking into account disk sector size. I've tried it in multiple bases, I've tried ASCII and HEX decoding, I've even tried decyphering any letters I've taken out of it. I'm really beginning to doubt there's anything in the number. Right now, I just know I hate it. I hate it, hate it, HATE IT! *snore*

ETA: Methinks we don't have enough info yet. I'll wait till tomorrow morning. *snore*

Buying stock in UV torch companies? Hmm, that sounds AWFULLY FAMILIAR. Razz

And, yes, it is entirely possible.

Assuming an Apache server (which I know for a fact that OFL is -not- running on), you can do this with the .htaccess file:

Code:
ErrorDocument 404 /errorhandler.php

That redirects your 404s to the errorhandler.php script.

From there, you can just let the script take over and do custom stuff based on the file that you went to that doesn't exist:

Code:

<?php
/* finds the URL of the file that 404'd */
$request=$_SERVER['REQUEST_URI'];

/* not the most elegant way of doing it but IT WORKS */
/* does certain things based on the 404 file */

switch($request) {
case "/index.html":
do_stuff();
break;
case "/awesome.html":
do_secret_awesome_stuff();
break;
}
?>

So, yeah. Possible.

Thanks Red. Figured it was, but I've never done anything with scripts. Have a big honking book on java sitting in the bookcase gathering dust. I'm not at all sure this is relevant anyway. You'd think that after three months I'd be used to waiting.
