I did try Googling Charlotte + quest and found a story titled Charlotte's Quest by Lucy Maud Montgomery, author of Anne of Green Gables, but that story isn't this one.

I'm undecided on the 21A or VIZ issue. It seems more likely to me that the pressure point happens when the pen first hits paper, but there should be a crossbar on the A. Maybe it's only meant as a naming convention for patient records?

Wow, I think I may end up lurking on this one, it could end up being quite an interesting little plot.

For what it's worth; I'm not convinced by the mystery text being 21A, if you look at the ink-blobs, each letter has one, yet there is no blob in the middle of the A (or V) character for what would be the horizontal line in A. Regardless of whether the writer has his or her's blobs at the beginning or at the end of scribing a letter, if they took the pen off to write the bar, they'd probably have left a blob (though I guess they could've done the bar without taking the pen off the tape).

Although, saying that, I'm not entirely convinced it's VIZ either, purely because of the curve on the 'Z' or '2'.

I'm not really helping am I? I'll get me coat....

I just disproved my own theory by trying it with a marker myself as others have done. My blobs are at the end of the stroke, leading me back to thinking its 21A.

I only just read the address on the mailing envelope, Addlepated. I didn't know you were in Austin! 78716, that would put you fairly close to downtown if I'm not mistaken. I'm up around MoPac & Far West....... Nice to see another Austinite on here.

Hi all, I've been lurking this one and wanted to throw in I think its 21A. Note: San Diego has the roller coaster & 3 different commuter trains that run all over the county (all above ground). That sound could also be wind depending on mic placement etc... Hope this stays wet

Has anyone been to the location / return address? If not, & you need someone to do that, PM me with the addy & Ill roll out later today.

Hey Driz!

Heh, I ran across that same information you found yesterday but never looked further than the Google search synopsis because the character name didn't match. Persistence pays off!

I will definitely keep my eyes peeled for anything else, and make sure to keep checking the PO box (I think this package had been sitting in there a couple of days - bad me!).

OK so I got the actual address from Addlepated yesterday afternoon and swung by to see what I could see. Basically, it's just a house in Mission Bay, nothing special about it - no signs or other information that I could see.

Two thoughts:
1.) I didn't think about it when I was there, but it could be that if the writing on the tape is "21A", then that may be an apartment number or something. Maybe Pink Cloud could go check that out?

2.) If the writing on the tape is "viz" it could be in reference to this - "Viz. (also rendered viz without a period) and the adverb videlicet are used as synonyms for "namely," "that is to say," and "as follows."
