Oh God at the parking space post--my mother had a broken foot a few years ago and only then did I realize how often people did stuff like that. Confused

I'm concerned that they may be moving toward an idea of "goodwill" as "punishing those who are thoughtless." Mandatory caring isn't caring at all...

I e-mailed my story and got my coin, so I suppose I'm lurking too...

I can relate to the parking space post from a slightly different perspective. My dad is overweight and has back problems (although not that severe) and has been issued a handicapped parking permit. I don't object to him having it most of the time, but when he parks in a handicapped space when he is actually able to walk from a regular space it really irks me. Especially when there is only one handicapped space available. Although he has the pass, I feel that he should use it more "sparingly" and consider that there might be others that need that closer parking space more. This presents a dilemna - if we are to respect and care about all people with disabilities, and a handicapped permit is an outward accepted identifier of a person with a disability, then what do we do about people like my dad who exaggerate their "disability" for their own convenience? Do we automatically "care" just because they have "credentials?" I'm not sure how this fits in, but it's worth thinking about...

Is anybody else struck by the number of serious, rare medical conditions in the town's youth? o_O Lupus/arthritis, now epilepsy.

Remind me not to move to Deepwell until I'm 30. Razz

edit: Also, did anybody notice that the 15 on their calendar is messed up? What is that? Shocked

I didn't notice that it doesn't say 15 on the calendar until you pointed it out blessedSophia. Nice catch! And good point about the number of illnesses among Deepwell's young, but it may just be that people who are close to those issues are speaking up as a result of Ruby's bequest.

blessedSophia, the main site just came up fine for me. Maybe they were updating so try again.

Have had a busy morning and only just started reading the caring stories. Enjoyed yours, amandel, particularly because it shows that we can make a significant contribution to another person's life without it taking a large block of time to do so. A friend of mine in another state is the recipient of such caring, and I know how very much she values the neighbor who takes her along on weekly shopping trips. It's the difference between having canned goods and fresh fruit/veggies for her.
