Odd radio station -- ARG-related? Greetings. Recently while exploring the FM dial with his trusty tuner, me and a friend came across a station that we haven't heard before. As he described it, "It is alternating irregularly between the worst Christmas music I have ever heard, and horrible music that I have no description for besides 90's/Fail Fusion". It also announces its station call sign in between every song.
A lookup in the FCC database shows that the call sign belongs to "Sovereign City Radio Services", whose website states that they have ceased operations on 5 January 2009. Which is weird, because the FCC database says the license for this station was granted 20 Feb 2009.
I'm not really certain why an ARG would be deploying a radio station in a relatively small southern New Mexico town (but equally, I cannot fathom why a defunct Illinois company is deploying a radio station in a relatively small southern New Mexico town), but the aforementioned friend went to the coordinates listed in the FCC database, and took a few pictures:
What do you guys think?

Well, first, no need to quote yourself... twice... within 2 minutes...
I'm sure anyone who has the time to look will take a look. Just have patience.
never mind... :)
Next, there's a SCRS in Chicago (http://www.radioservices.sovcity.com)
But is this the location you're referring to in New Mexico? (google maps ) linked from this station list , KYRN FM (in Socorro, NM)
Better link to detailed info:

My apologies. I haven't used forum software in a while, believe it or not.

http://www.sovcity.com/ has the "we're defunct" statement. radioservices.* didn't offer anything useful.
This is indeed it. KYRN 102.1. I did find that link while scrambling around for things to post about.

Wow, very interesting! Definitely lurking since Strange Object has screeched to a halt and Rachel's Walk will apparently never start...

So ummmmm I emailed the radio company about the station. I immediately got this response:

Lisa: Thanks for your inquiry. Is there a number where I can call you to discuss this?

What on earth would he want to discuss that he couldn't say in an email.
ETA:
We went back and forth a few times, end result is:

Lisa: I am aware that the station is on the air. Are you looking to update information for a database?
The station is for sale. Might you know someone who would be interested?
Please call at your convenience.
Thanks. Scott
So....not likely anything.

Hmm, there's stuff out there on the interweb regarding Scott Krusinski going back a few years. I found his LinkedIn page:- http://www.linkedin.com/pub/dir/scott/krusinski which lists him as a radio station broker, and I've also found some archives of radio station deals that were done in 2007 and 2008, brokered by a Scott Krusinski (for instance, there's one here:- http://www.broadcastingcable.com/article/97313-Deals.php (do a search for Krusinski). So, I suspect that Scott is OOG.
If this station is an ARG, I don't think Sovereign City Communications are involved as I've seen a few mentions of the company going bust on a few well established radio blogs and websites. It may be that the current radio station that is down there broadcasting nonsense is part of an ARG, but I have a feeling that Sovereign City are not. Of course, I could be completely wrong and talking out of a hole in my arse as usual It's been known to happen.

My last email to him, after the one I posted up there from him, mentions how I got to the point of emailing him. He hasn't answered back. I wish this were something fun, but I have a feeling it isn't

don't think this is ARG
Quote:
The company's attorney, Gregory B. Gill, Sr. of Appleton, indicated that each employee will be offered outplacement services and the opportunity to participate in a severance arrangement in order to assist former employees into their transition to search for new employment. He also confirmed that due to the small size of the employment contingent, which is approximately 40 employees, the 60 day closing notice required under federal or state law for larger companies did not apply.
I am from Appleton, WI and I personally have done some work for Greg B Gill. He is a legit corporate attorney, and I can't imagine him getting involved in an ARG. I definitely do not suggest calling him.
