cjr22, that's it! You're turn to present a puzzle, if you want to.
Pats on the back to cjr22, catherwood, and Rogi.

Thanks, sixsidedsquare. When the tinyurl turned out to have "owl" in it, I thought ut-oh. That's a double edged sword... it may make it easier to hit on the solution to the "steps" phase being it's a recognizable word, but make it harder for anyone to realize that it's a tinyurl.

I found it equally difficult to come up with hints. I was surprised by that, actually.

Doing this has certainly given me a renewed and greater appreciation for all the puzzle makers out there.

Do you not have a puzzle? Cuz I have one that I have permission to use (and when you see the image, you'll know wholeheartedly that I had nothing to do with it Laughing ).

Decided to go ahead and post it anyways. Like I said up there, I did not come up with this puzzle, nor do I know the answer. I am most puzzley challenged. But it has been up on the website for weeks without a nibble. So here goes!

Cross-referencing anticodon words doesn't seem to produce anything useful as far as a message goes, and (just going by the first 2 lines and if I haven't transposed a character or two) simple substitution doesn't work. Maybe we convert the RNA values to DNA and search for a genome? As the last triplet is incomplete... Maybe I'm way off.

Other then the picture, this was the only other information I was given when I presented the puzzle.

Quote:
The Big Bang brought forth the creation of the universe and at the same time created the basic building blocks of life. Represented in theCoalition as!GNAB.

Meteoric impacts with Earth brought those building blocks to the Earth.

Subsequent impacts alter the DNA of certain people who are gentically predisposed to the altering. These changes in some people of the earliest civilizations led to the concepts of Gods living among us. These bloodlines are still in existence today.

Each of the catastrophic events can be tied to advances in civilization and a retrospective look at these changes leads some to conclude that there are facotrs in addition to simple meteoric impacts that effect these changes.

Remnants of these events remain on Earth in the form of unusual and rare mineral compositions like Carmot, the Glass Scarab in King Tut's necklace and other, "mystical" composites. These elements can be used to the advantage of certain interested parties. (Genetic alterations/enhancements, spiritual enlightenment [connection with a higher power or the Gods], manipulation of the elements, etc.)

The basis of the struggle of humankind has been in its attempt to gain control over these elements but up until now, there was no clear understanding of their relationship to each other, mankind, and the universal conciousness.

Gaining control of these !GNAB elements could lead to control over civilization

And that's all I got Confused

I was thinking the broken triplet might just be a sign-off. 'CU' IDK.

One way to look at it is as base64 'words.' Don't know that that buys anything or what we'd do with them once we got them.

just a thought

I haven't counted the columns and rows to see if this idea is valid, but perhaps this puzzle is meant to be read starting at the bottom row, reading to the left, then up, across, and down, in a spiral fashion towards the center.

One of the boys working on it was headed in the right direction (or so we were told). Then we all pretty much pled stupidity Laughing

Here's his insight

Quote:
its a Rna code... the 3 letters are a codeon, the make a Amino acid which i think is what we need to find out. then we can use the letter to find a message

To which the puzzle maker replied

Pok has the right idea but the wrong path. I'm not going to say anymore right now.

I'm not sure if that helps at all Confused

So, uhh, how 'bout that transcript? Probably only needs to be the first few lines to try stuff out. Anyone?

I did start to transcribe the codons, starting from the natural upper left corner. I got bored after two rows. The frequency of the triplets gave me 25 different symbols. It might work to map each codon/triplet to a letter of the alphabet, but standard English probably wouldn't use that many letters in the first 60 letters of a message. Perhaps it is further enciphered, like with Vigenere? Too many sets occur 3 times sequentially for it to look like simple substitution. I don't plan on transcribing any more at this point, sorry.

Hmmm, although it seemed to be discounted with Pok's message above, the 3 letter codons could be replaced by the short version of their respective amino acids (Perplex City used this sort of thing in a puzzle a while back). You can find the codons letter in the 'Gene expression and biochemistry' of this wikipedia page. But yeah, as I said this is pretty much exactly what Pok suggested, only to be told it was the wrong path.

It amazes me how often we think (and do[or not]) the exact same thing. Very Happy
