Nice job on all those encryptions Wolf! See, I knew you were just modest... Wink

I have a couple of stupid questions I hope someone can help with -
1. What is Beckett - Gangrel? I remember him shapeshifting into a wolf when he & Jonanthan were trying to escape the Society...
2. In the line "the castle was beautiful in its day"; is that a reference to that castle in Germany?
3. If Sara is trying to resurrect "an old flame", why choose the grandson(Jonathan)? Where is Jonathan's father, Jonah's son in all of this?
4. Italy??? Is that new or has it come up b4?
*still a little confused* Confused

Heh - all good questions. Yes, if I remember right Beckett is a Gangrel.

As to the rest of them, I've been wondering a lot of the same things, but let me add one more question. It pertains to Becketts thought "Time isn't linear". We may be interacting with Swift/Porter/Netchurch/Sara/etc - but what if whomever is manipulating these different "universes" is manipulating it in the "past". Where all we're doing is trying to react to what's already been set in place, as opposed to.... well you get the idea. When dealing with time issues - I always get a headache, as there's so many possibilities.

Hmm.. I seem to have got the irritated persona again...

My email:
Quote:
From Beckett's, possibly put into his mind by Netchurch:

Italy is where answers lie
The following time he sleeps
Tell him to go to Italy

Shreknet's Response:
Quote:
Is Jonathan asleep?

My response:
Quote:
I'm not sure. Isn't it daylight where he is?

Shreknet's Response:
Quote:
That was a hint, bud.

Re Beckett:

He is a Gangrel. He is a scholar of the Book of Nod and a firm believer that, while something might be coming, it certainly is NOT Caine. His adversary on the other hand is Sasha Vykos, a Tzimisce of the Sabbat that has altered her appearance and body so many times that it is no longer known is she started out as a female or male.

Beckett is an interesting character in that while he remained close to the Camarilla he never really set roots anywhere. Some say he managed to reach Golconda and completely subdue his Beast, thus mastering the Protean discipline in the process. Others think him as a madman and do not trust him. Also it is believed that Beckett is at least a 7th Gen vampire if not older.

More info as it is required.

Wow - that really sounds like the PM's are getting a bit... irritated? frustrated? Cuz why would Porter offer a hint - especially when he supposedly doesn't really know whats going on this time - and Netchurch doesn't talk like that.

[soapbox OOG]Frankly, that wasn't cool. This has been fun for me so far, because of the story, the subject matter and so forth - but there are other ARG's to follow that use more than a blogpost and IM. We've lost a few players already, for reasons unknown - but I can't see being condescending to one that's been pretty active is going to convince any more to stick around.
Are we moving too slowly for them? Missing too much? Not sure. Or hell, maybe I'm taking it out of context - who knows. Ok, off the [/soapbox OOG]

I didn't go away - I'm lurking. Cool

PS. Why do you think it was hostile?

I didn't say it was hostile.. I said I got the irritated Shreknet persona (as opposed to the wacked out one or the leet one, or whatever).. I guess Porter? I wasn't feeling personally hurt by the response, just not sure where to go from there.

Any ideas about what the "sleeping" thing is all about? I could only think of the AIM account sleeping, and sending a message to it when it's in sleep mode.

You know I think encountered the "irritated" persona when I first started playing. I didn't know of this forum yet & I shot off a bunch of emails to shrectnet about Sara(who she is, what her relationship was to Jon, etc.). The reply was "The answers about Sara are already in the blog. You should have been able to read it all by now..." - which kinda weirded me out at first. Granted, it took a while to read the whole blog from the very beginning, but it was a little creepy to know I was being watched by an annoyed PM...
Maybe it was just Porter PMSing?? Twisted Evil

I didn't mean to imply that the comment upset anyone personally. Putting it into the context of how the various characters have acted so far - it didn't fit any of them. The comment itself seemed OOG to me, and therefore irritated and slightly insulting.
Let me reiterate, I have thoroughly enjoyed this so far for several reasons. Perhaps it was a PM having a bad day, perhaps it truly was meant to be in game - and I'm completely mis-interpreting it. Heh - hell - maybe [i]I'm[/[] the one having a bad day.
All I was really trying to say, that if it was an OOG comment - it certainly wasn't appropriate. The way your question was phrased, and then your follow-up question were natural questions. But that last reply.. I dunno.
This is the last I'll say about it, and I didn't intend any bad feelings either way. If it was intended IG, then I sincerely apologize Dunce *waves to PM's*.

And moving on Very Happy - 9
is up, and it sounds like we will get some answers about Italy, and an introduction to the Lasombra. I've never heard of these guys before - but wow.

@ndemeter - if you have any other background on the Lasombra that might be helpful, it would be greatly appreciated. Any bigwig Kindred we should be aware of, that kinda thing.

One last thing, again I apologize. I hate drama, let alone causing it - so please forgive me for the brief outburst.

Yes. Cardinal Luis Moncada in terms of high ranking.

He was truly the man. Smile

If he gets introduced on this storyline I will rather enjoy it. We wrote him as an extremely ruthless SOB. Twisted Evil

Also look out for Lucita, the pet assassin.

k is up

New posting, k is up.

@jki6783- the first time we ran into this type of a code, it quoted a portion of the website, which - as you have already done, allows you to google it, and identify where it came from.
In this case:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
http://bigfishart.com/hospitality. And once we determined the name of the website (which happened to be www.lamb.com) we used 'lamb' as the keyword and were able to decrypt the message.

However, this time it doesn't appear to be the same thing. Much like several of the other codes we've come across, they're very similiar to the "original's", but not quite.

So far I've tried:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
big fish; Big Fish; big fish art; Big Fish Art; bigfish; BigFish; bigfishart; Big Fish Art - and the like, with a few other variations. But no dice. Unfortunately, I can't seem to get to the website - it's either down, or I have no internet connection..... So I'm opting for choice #1.
Anyway, since I can't get to it, I can't search it for other possible keywords. Be aware tho - this is a real, OOG company - so don't go dropping any bizzare sounding emails to them.. Laughing

I tried the WayBack Machine as well - but it didn't have the particular page referenced by the quote, so no love there either. I'll try again in a bit.

=edit=
Been looking thru the website today, but haven't found anything that works as yet. I wonder if we're looking for something specific from the website, or an abstract idea of what's found on the website.. Either way, still no love.

I tried 'whale', because I was thinking of big fish and our Jonah connection, but that didn't work. Maybe something along those lines?

@yochanan
That's a good idea. Tried any related bible keywords yet?

Got a jab from shrecknet just now on aim:
Quote:
shrecknet: oh, it will be startlingly obvious once you figure it out

He signed off immediately after.

Went to go try some more keywords and saw that Δ was posted. Another encryption. whee. Rolling Eyes

EDIT:
Just a note, the new material is from www.greenbullladder.com

@wulf74
Thanx for your explanation on that. I was wondering what it had to do with the game. Next time I won't leave a message like that there... I don't want to be scolded by who? for having a big mouth. Confused
Dumb question to anyone who will help; is this a substitution cipher? I'm not great at these and I would like to know what everyone else does so I can actually try to figure it out... Thanx in advance Very Happy

No, a substitution cipher is when each letter in the plain text alphabet is replaced with a different letter or symbol. You then just have to figure out which is which, and you've decoded your message. There are more complicated schemes too, but that is the basic idea.

This is way more complicated - it's an algorithm that you would never be able to break without the keyword. In one of the earlier posts, we were given a link to a site that encrypts and decrypts with this algorithm. So, you just copy and paste the ciphertext into the box there, type in the magic keyword, and there you go. The trick is to find the keyword.
