Walking Savantly (down the hall)

I did my walk with Eva, and was sorely disappointed to get home afterward and realized I was stuck till later in the week to get any more progress.

Tomorrow after work I am gona try to pick up som ecoinage.
Today was having my seams ripped back out at the doctors office, but I am pretty sure two of the buskers listed performer right in the nieghborhood of my job.

I'm assuming both from the ig clues and the chatter where that I will need more than one coin, and can probably only get one from each of the Whole Bohemians I find.

Assuming I can track down both skippy and Mike, I will then high tail it out to valencia for all the things I couldnt get done out there on Monday.

So I pose this OOG question to yall,
Do you think this is the enterprise of a collective of young arty types, the enterprise of a large corporate mechanism that still wants to celebrate the idea of San Francisco, or somewhere in between?
(like say a medium sized ad agency similar to WK in portland, that would in turn have access to allot of young zine-ie types, who in turn would have access to lots of wee little boutiques to sell the clues in ?

It's metagamey as f*ck I know, but i am always curious as to the motivation and cash flow behind any major public art venture, secret or otherwise.

Anyone have any theories they would be willing to share?
I am still thinking inside there is a good chance we will all be wear poliwater cola and wear shoes from the kiosk inteded specifically for I.D.H.S.-ing.

Wouldn't love it any less if we did.
S.

They're here to help
I've been a victim of microwave harassment

Yeah I don't really need to know the reason why they do what they do.
But I'm glad to know that I'm not (that) crazy it's just the microwave harassment. And besides I thought this was about a missing a girl?

@ Soggy:

From what we can tell, this experience is set up by a small group of artsy-type people. When we first pulled the curtain back, there was hints that the idea was started by a group called "Oaklandish" (don't quote me on that, it was just a theory). As for the idea of advertising, not quite sure if that is their M.O. or not. Getting us to visit these small shops makes it seem like it could be, but after talking to the store owners, it seems like they were not familiar with the people who gave them the items for us to collect. So, not sure what their "reasoning" behind this is... I think it is just to promote some of the more hidden aspects of SF.

@ briareosH

There are so many layers to this lore, it's hard to say what our end-goal is. Taking down the JI seems like one aspect, and finding Eva seems like it could be another. I think that maybe if we can find Eva, we can start dismantling the JI.

New post on my blog:

I decided to make S.O.F.T.P.O.R.N. public. The idea of the Social Outsiders is to create a IG/OOG group that plays along with the lore of nonchalance while giving information to those who are just starting out.

We are not officially associated to EPWA or JI. More or less, we are a group dedicated to obtaining more information.

If you would like to join, let me know. (BTW, the PM's love the idea)

Just wanted to alert people that the PDF showing "Likely Carriers of the
Curreny of Nonchalance" has been updated, removing those no longer participating and adding a couple of new faces. Take a look!

Oh, and I also wanted to say that, CaptKing, I'd love to join S.O.F.T.P.O.R.N., but I sort of have issues with the name. I'll totally own up to the fact that they are my own issues…, nothing wrong with you choosing a name and wearing it proudly... but those issues prevent me from wearing it at all. Have no idea if I'm alone on that one.

OOg: Hobo coin resources

I was doing some googling, and found this.
I am sure many of you may have seen it before, but i thought it was extra neat and worth sharing.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hobo_Nickels

Hobo nickles are/were a very real thing in american/world history.
There was an old article from make on them, which led me to this wiki article.
Super Cool Beans and
Neat!

hobo nickle #1

I got a hobo nickle.
I made the mistake of having my money in my hand and he squeezed me for every dollar I was carrying, which was a dollar less than I was willin gto spend, but I will be better prepared for the next.

There isn't a WSPS till saturday so I will have to shoot over there after work, though I have no idea if I am doing things in the right order or not.
Gonna just give it a shot.

Though I am somewhat disappointed to find out I won't likely get to go dancing with a Yeti.

Have any of the rest of you who have gone farther, gone any farther yet?
Or is everything in a holding pattern in preparation for the next act?

S.B.

You can still pick up the letter even though the woman who makes the WSPS letters is not in. They have them behind the counter for the people who have a coin to get whenever.

Also, you must have another nickel to purchase the "tooth of a nonchalant" at Paxton Gate. You can also pick that up whenever.

There is no "correct" order in doing all of this, just make sure you get all of the items necessary.

As of right now, there seems to be a holding pattern. It'll make sense when you acquire everything and answer the questions on EPWA BBS.

My Status

SO I got one nickle from the erhu player in chinatown.
He squeezed me for about 4 bucks to get it, but worth it i htink.
Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find anyone else since then, So i think I will have to go back to him again to get the second one.

I got my message from the post office, and so on, and am just waiting on a free day to head back out to china town and get my second coin (was supposed to be today, but had to work instead)

It's been great having an excuse to go over to valencia and drop some coin at the shoppe and paxton gate and 826 valencia, though.
I needed to get someknickknacks and tchotchkies for a sick friend, and made a nice gift basket between them.

Is anyone else still pursuing the elusive coinage, or am I alone in my questing at this point?

S.B.

I am still in pursuit as well. Talked to frank, and he said he didn't have any. If I have any luck I will be sure to let you know

coinage suspects

If you haven't checked the hobo coin page on EPW recently, you should check again, as they have updated the roster of carriers, and I assume they will continue to do so.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
I found the violin player in Powell St. Bart/Muni very easily and he was happy to pass a coin. Also found the guy on Kearny and Hardie several times, but he always forgets to bring the coins with him (though if you catch him on consecutive days you might be in luck).

Good hunting!

Ok, I was wrong about frank as I was working off some things said on this forum, and franks card.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
I got my transcript and CD this weekend.
I was blown away by how fricking cool the transcript was.
Today, I got two coins from the erhu guy, but the epwa site says they come in two denominations, so I think I am going to try to track down some one else. Does anyone know if there really are two different coins, as the erhu guy seemed to only have one kind?

n0thing,

Actually, since you already got those two coins don't worry about finding the other denominations. Those are given to you as change when you purchase the two items. As for the CD:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):

Make sure you listen to all of the tracks, there is a special one at the end. Listen to it carefully, it will lead you somewhere

WOW, the CD...
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
I have only listed to the first minute or two of the hidden track, as I want to hear it for the first time on site... but again, I have to say I was totally blown away by the 3D stereo sound quality of what little I have listed to. The production quality is really phenomenal. With every new step, I am more and more impressed by the quality of the work that went into this. Great respect to those putting this on.

As a side note (that others might find helpful), I imported the cd with itunes and put it onto my iphone, as I haven't had a portable cd player in years

Numismatics
no luck on Sunday

Well it's good to hear that there are still coins out there, I tried 4 places on Sunday and couldn't find anyone. Well at least it was a nice day, I'll try again on Friday.
