[META] Post here to document WHY Axons didn't go hot

If you visited a site and it didn't go hot, we need to know why so we can strategize for tomorrow.

I figure we have several valid reasons

a. Phone broken
b. No phone located
c. Phone didn't ring (ringer disabled)
d. Phone didn't ring (verified working)
e. Invalid equipment message
f. Melissa didn't recognize your response

Please post in this thread
1. Location (time and coordinates)
2. Why it failed.
3. If you plan to return.
4. Any notes for others that might visit the location

http://www.melangerie.com/bees/status.htm will be the master list as people report in.

Please note: if you're not sure you have the correct phone/bank of phones you may be able to narrow it down....

Edit#2: See this thread for specifics. -veen

If you can get the physical address for one of the businesses where you think the coordinates are pointing, run that address through a lat/lon mapper to see if the coordinates are similar. If they are close, you can probably fine tune the actual coordinate location to verify and if they're not really close, then you need to revisit the maps.

-veen

No ring
Several showed interest in returning
There are four phones in a block+ radius. The one just inside the door of the library is the most likely and the one that rang at 16:39.

2: Failure reason: The coordinate was CHANGED to 42.999793 -71.464026

3. Plan to return? Nope. Too far away now.

4. Notes for others? Sorry, I never got to see that site since it's now in Manchester, New Hampshire.

Cleveland 1: Arabica University Circle on Juniper Rd. (Part of CWRU campus.)
Code is blip. This was coord2 overall (06:11). Did not have code at the time. There are two payphones. One is to the right of a calling card vending machine, the other is in an alcove from the front door. The call came in on the phone in the alcove.

Cleveland 2: Payphone across the street from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, directly behind USCG buildings.
Code is pqi. This axon cannot be activated - the payphone is broken. Complete static both directions.

1. Location: 16:47 | 37.441940 -122.141940 (Palo Alto, CA)

2. Failure Reason: Could not locate a payphone in that location. It's theorized it was a typo in the location.

3. Return Plan: Maybe, but doubtful unless the location updates.

4. There were two payphones across Embarcadero and down the road (Middlefield, NW) a bit, but neither of them accepted incoming calls. When we left we spotted a payphone on the side of a building in RInconada Park (across from Guinda St.) , but didn't not stop to see if it accepted incoming calls.

4. Although payphone was right on GPS, alt. phone behind closest building.
Did'nt arrive early enough and too bummed after to scout. Had to get
to next axon. Went Hot. Woot.

8:03 PDT Axon

1. Location: 8:03 | 35.9963 -78.902867 (Durham, NC)

2. Failure Reason: Melissa did not recognize reponse (street was too loud!)

3. Return Plan: Not tomorrow (Weds. 25th), but Thurs. 26th if still necessary/useful

4. Description: Payphone was quite easy to find, on the north side of the street between the sidewalk and street. Coordinates were extremely accurate, the GPS put me standing right in front of the payphone, a single Verizon payphone. At the moment the phone rang, a convoy of city buses was driving by. I waited several rings and then got worried that if I waited too long it would stop ringing, so I picked it up. My response was not recognized, which doesn't surprise me, because I could barely hear the voice on the phone or my own voice.

Note: Since we got the dizzy.wav anyhow, getting this axon hot may not be necessary, unless we need to get them all hot for some other reason.

1. Mesquite, Tx 09:47 PDT (-096.653600,32.796100)
2. I didn't answer the phone, some girl did. She said that it didn't ask her to answer anything. She seemed to be trying very hard to hear the mesage so she may have missed what she needed to say.
3. I really can't wait here in town that late in the day, I have to go back to Denton(school) in the morning. Maybe one of the other 6-7 people may go back.
4. It was the right-hand(of the 2 phones) phone at a 7-11 store. Verizon Payhone.

1 - 43.569299 -116.214454 11:53 11 km SE of Boise Idaho eyes
2 - Somebody called asking for "bob" right when call should have come. Another call of just silence then click came moments after.
3 - Yes, I plan on returning (should be able to work my lunch break around this time).
4 - Phone is in the lobby of the Kopper Kitchen (though post people elsewhere also as there are multiple phones in the parking lot area just in case the "bob" caller was just messing with us with the "click" call also)

1 - 43.605803 -116.211713 16:27 Boise Idaho pillow
2 - We were all waiting by the phone in the perfect GPS position only to find out that the call came ~300ft away in the Pizza Hut (freaked out the reception girl pretty good). Call was also followed by the "silent click" call (which we actually got)
3 - If I am not there, my good buddy MadCow plans on being there.
4 - Phone is in the Pizza Hut on W Ann Morrison Park Dr

2. Failure Reason: Computer did not recognize commands.

3. Return Plan: Maybe, will have to decide tomorrow.

4. There are two payphones on the platform. The one on the right (It should have a bee sticker on it that catherwood put there) is the one.

Note: I did not actually go to this location, but I'm relaying info from catherwood.

4 Payphones. 3 of them were disabled. Assumed that one of the 3 was the one to be called.
Probably not returning

2: 17:07 Location (Redmond, WA)
Never rang with that message. Rang, but got silence. Phone was verified to ring. (Rang later at 5:45 asking for 50 cents)
US West phone, next to cafe in the big center on the right side, coming from the north side.
I'll probably return. I'm bored.

1. 07:11 PDT 38.561793 -090.369923
Crestwood, MO (St. Louis suburb), phone in front of closed Sports Authority store

2. Failed because our response was not recognized. I think we were supposed to say "The Operator" instead of "Melissa."

No idea if anyone will return. If we had 8 people or so there today, I think we'll get someone to return eventually. I'll focus on some other locations this weekend if they haven't been hit yet.

Slightly OT here...
There's two payphones in my school, at first you could assume they don't take incoming calls because they don't ring when called. However, if you call, and pick up while it's "ringing" it can be answered. Try that with some of the phones that don't ring, and then when the time rolls around, make sure your watches are synchronized and try answering the phone when the time for your coord comes...

1. Location 12:35 PDT | 39.047939 -094.349833 (Near Independence Center, Independence, MO)

2. Failure Reason: Couldn't find payphone.

3. Return Plan: Going back on Thursday, bringing more people, only had 3 this time.

4. Check everywhere...even in the field next to the La-Z-Boy store, and you might check some of the old houses that are around the area, and the construction zone close to it. You might also check with some employees at the La-Z-Boy store, they were quite friendly, and I'm sure they'd let you know if they heard any payphone near their store ringing yesterday.
