Also the "Leonardo Bode" is the magazine of Leonardo da Vinci, a studygroup at Radboud University, Nijmegen (NL). The ones who created this movie study at Radboud and shot the video in Nijmegen.

Also the logo is imprinted in the lower right corner of the magazine.

That site has links to pdf versions of a few issues, 2 of which have whatsinthebox.nl back covers. So we get a much better look at the barcode, but...it looks to me like its just a mirror image of the barcode on the front of the magazine.

Wow. I stand corrected. Never thought to google for "da vinci bode" instead of "leonardo bode".

Well, I'll be back in 5ish days to see what develops!

Maybe someone should update the title of this thread to "TRAILHEAD???" since it's looking like there's nothing more to find for now.

Explanation

The 2 makers were on tv last night;
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E8rRb4z0gVA

Short summary from the dutch:

They are 2 physics students who make this in their spare time. They had very little budget, 150 euro (around 200 dollar). (The exact phrase is: "we made it for 150 euros and a pizza")

It's a study to see if they could make the effects you see in the film. They want to produce a full 90 minute film like this.

Since the viral was seen over 500.000 times on youtube they were contacted by 20th century fox and other studios. All of them were astounded by the low budget.

The guys intend to make a film.

Thank you for sharing the news with us.

Now that's great! Even if the whole thing isn't an ARG, but they do have really potential to make great atmospheric movies.

I'll follow their work, since they proved, the budget is not the most important thing if you want to make something special and cool.

Respect!

Well, that pretty much wraps up the movie, but the website is still a conundrum, even though it has been thoroughly dissected. Hopefully Tim Smit and company will update it soon.

The guys were on another Dutch TV show just now. They stated they made the movie to prove that a project like that is not just a Hollywood-thing but could be done in Holland as well. Also they showed where they taped the first part, in the lab. I'll try and post a link later so you can see for yourself.

I recognize some of the effects from tutorials for Adobe After Effects. Not sure if that's what they used or not but it could be.

I'm confused... They made this on their spare time, with a "shoestring budget"... yet they have full page ads in a magazine?!? Nobody finds that kinda odd???

It's the magazine of their study. The editors of the magazine probably gave them the ad space for free.
