Does anyone know of a good substitution cipher solver tool? (A manual one with frequencies would be best) I'm pretty good at these, but they take a while without the right tool, and I have lost my links since I have been out of the game.

I'd suggest that everyone work together on this over on etherpad, so we can reduce over-lap. It's like a shared text editor.

I got a reply from Charlie. So he must be online now. If you want to ask him something, I'd jump on it because when he ships out I don't think he'll be on myspace anymore.

New Email

Just got a new email from 2012 is now. It's another sound file. The subject is: Tongues in Our Pockets. The body is as follows: I love this song. It has become a sort of anthem for me. I hate the fact that my ipod broke back on the island. Now I have to turn on the radio and hope his songs are on.

...

Well it mentioned that island that was in the last cipher (maybe). The quality of the song sounds distorted to me like there's more going on than what's at the surface. Gonna play around with it and see what happens.

Does anyone know this song? I've hever heard of it. Sounds like a 60's song to me, kinda Beatles-esque (not that I've listened to them much). Also worth noting, this Miguel Hernandez fellow is again the author if you look in your player of choice.

i'm pretty certain it isn't a "real" song. taking it apart seems like the right direction to go with it besides maybe interpreting the lyrics which i'm guessing you thought about during your first listen Rolling Eyes

The song isn't bad, but it is obviously not recorded by a professional, as it tops out a few times and distorts. I checked out the tags on it and found a few minor items. It was encoded with GarageBand 4.1.2 (Mac music recording app), and modified today (this may be when Kazik uploaded it). Miguel Hernandez is credited with composing and performing the piece and it shows as being produced in 2009.

Yep I did, which is when I heard the interference. Dunno if it's just an amateur recording or if we're supposed to take it apart. I'm trying to get a transcript up of the song as we speak. I think it may be about the song. There are lots of numbers in it. Maybe the quality is just crappy.

Transcript:

On my way to Georgia .... wait for you, but it never comes talk to...city, with it's 500 fortunes and its nights that never sleep. you come and i wait ever day (waited for/4 days, waited 3 days? i think it's 3 days).. real full of memory with.. in your face, i can see it when we're talking with our tongues in our pockets seize the day. 11:46 on peach tree street. we were sick, intoxicated with disease your lungs were giving out but i held you close trying to breathe out your disease, you come in and i waited 2 days..when a sock hid your face (refrain) now you see the line on your white sheets in this haze there's no phrase that can explain (x2) come in and i waited one day (refrain).

I think it's the numbers we are suppose to listen to. I noticed they change in the chorus.

so the numbers are: 500, 3, 11:46 (or 11,46), 2, 1, which together is 5003114621. Wonder if it's like the last one and the page number is 500 and the isbn is 3114621. Hmm well off i go to check.

edit: nope not a book number. We need an experienced puzzler here to tell us how this solves our puzzle. I know it's the key.

edit2: I am not sure if it's 11:46. I definitely hear the 46, but the part before is hard to hear. If someone else could put a fresh ear to it, that would be lovely. I tried pulling just the vocals out of the song, but apparently it was recorded differently than a commercial song and it won't separate. I f anyone has more knowledge with sound editing and wants to give it a try, please do.

After much deliberating on the aforementioned page, we think that the line says, back in/on 46. No number 11. So that makes it 500, 3, 46, 2, 1. Also, anyone notice, that despite the kind of happy tone, this song is really depressing? First you hear it and you're like, "lala la la la." and then you actually listen to the words and your like, "omg let me go hang myself." Depressing -_- The PM's need to make songs about bunnies, to cheer me up.

Seems that a couple of numbers were placed in the comment portion of the mp3 file. The codes are:

00000265 00000009 00003DE0 000005BF 000055D0 0000E443 00007E5B 00007D74 00002D34 00002D34

Anybody recognize this style?

EDIT: I think it could also be that the first 4 zeros in each string are just there to throw us off, so the code is probably in the last 4 characters of each thing. Still not good with codes though, so I dunno. =D

Edited version on http://ustice.net/dump/tongues_in_our_pockets.wav
I tried to isolate the vocals a little more so that you get less distortion from the guitar, but it is a bit tough given that the audio has some level problems.

For the missing word go to http://ustice.net/dump/tongues_in_our_pockets_missing_word.wav

On my way to Georgia
Down in Fulton
where I wait for you,
Lovin' never comes
when I talk to "Be the World" city
with it's 500 fortunes
and its nights that never sleep.
you come and i waited 3 days

A rueful memory
When a smock hid your face,
i can see it when we're talking
with our tongues in our pockets
seize the day.

Back on(in) 46 'n Peach Tree Street.
Everyone was sick,
intoxicated with disease
your lungs were givin' out
but I held you close
trying to breathe out your disease,
Are you coming, I waited 2 days?

A rueful memory
when a smock hid your face
i can see it when we're talking
with our tongues in our pockets
seize the day.

now you see me layin'
on your white sheets in this haze
there's no phrase
that can explain

now you see me layin'
on your white sheets in this haze
there's no phrase
that can explain

You come and i waited one day

A rueful memory
When a smock hid your face,
i can see it when we're talking
with our tongues in our pockets
seize the day.

That word is very garbled. We contemplated that. If that's the case, it's said very fast.

Some of the words for the rest of the song might be wrong, but i don't think that's really important. The song shows us the kind of world they live in. Apparently everyone's sick and dying.

Rogen was on yahoo chat again
Quote:

Me:
Good evening Mr. Rogen
cmanone95:
Good evening.
Me:
any progress being made on my paperwork?
I can't imagine what might need checking
cmanone95:
Yes. Everything seems to be in place. We are only waiting for a strategic placement of events.
Me:
with your ability to communicate into the past it seems you'd be adept at lining up events
cmanone95:
Yes. But as we have come to see. Things never quite work out exactly the same way.
For instance last time you horrible failed at gaining his trust.
Me:
so, you can just keep retrying until things work out the way you desire?
or I guess...I keep trying until our goals are met?
cmanone95:
Actually. No. This is the last chance we have. Our resources are limited and only obtainable in the future. Since the future has now been compromised; it makes it too dangerous to attempt to replenish our fuels.
Me:
when in the future?
it's a little bewildering trying to navigate you in my more immediate future and your future
cmanone95:
Think of it as my now is your future and your future is uncertain.
Me:
do you know your future too?
cmanone95:
I know my past and that has given me the tools to decipher all I need to know. Want and need are very different species.
Me:
well thank you, I have to go
cmanone95:Have a wonderful night. And keep me updated on anything you come across.
