I decided to do some searching for star systems 42 light years from earth, and lo and behold look what I came up with

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/3177684.stm

to summarize what is said in the article:

Found: The best place for alien life

Astronomers are searching for Earth-like planets
Aliens watch out - a US astrobiologist has homed in on your star.
It is the 37th brightest star in the constellation of Gemini to be precise, 42 light-years away from Earth and rather like our own Sun.

The star, 37 Gem, is top of a shortlist of the 30 most promising places to look for life drawn up by Maggie Turnbull of the University of Arizona in Tucson, US.

"This stable, middle-aged star is just a bit hotter and brighter than our Sun," she told New Scientist magazine.

"And if alien life is anywhere, it's likely to be there."

To come up with 37 Gem, she whittled down a list of 5,000 stars within 100 light-years of Earth.

Now color me suprised, but this seems like a perfect place for a colony.

Also I did some more quick looking up, and guess what, the lucky stone for Gemini's is pearl, (It is even classed as "organic" as it is derived from animals and plants. Other members of this class include coral and amber.)

Oh and some more specific info on the star mentioned is here.

I don't know, but perhaps someone should check out a station in New Jersey that's located on Paris Street in Bergen County, based on what we've heard on emergency.wav?

Might want to wait for the other files too, just to see what the rest of the clues are. Hopefully we'll get enough of the other axons hot tomorrow.

Con-Axons

I agree that "durga" is the Operator. If this is true we have some interesting implications to consider. In these memories she lands in Jersey's system and has to wake herself up. She's dizzy and disoriented.

Sound familiar?

I would offer that she wasn't sent directly to ilovebees. I suggest that she was sent "skipping" back through time...touching down for a while before traveling further in reverse. Whether it was of her own volition we shall have to wait and see. This might explain her "crash-landing" and the damage and disorientation we see her exhibiting. Notice the terminology she uses when asking Jersey about the size of the system she is in. She says "what am I onboard". Remember, she is a naval AI that operates a ship. It would make sense that she relates to things in naval terms.

I think we are getting snippets of Melissa's prior adventures. She's trying relate her story to us. The Castaway is her connection to Jersey. Maybe he sent her to his son, or as a way to escape whatever happened to her and her crew she jumped to the Castaway's home thinking it was a safe place to seek refuge...this is only 1/2 way thoughtout so feel free to Tuna me if necessary.

Thebruce, I posted this in the thread in the puzzle forum, and it seemed to go over with little conflict.

Double sweet... I just finished organized by my own ideas (and some general tips from skimming threads) and it matched perfectly with your listing Smile very good

Well, there are basically 5 files that we haven't heard yet (not counting Dizzy, which we got unofficially, and Four Goats, which we heard a recording of):

1 - Blip
3 - Hey Soldier
6 - You Knew
10 - You Could
27 - Pillow

And after seeing the pieced up story-thus-far over at theBruce's site, it's clear where at least four of these will fit:

Before Walkaway Girl.

After Walkaway Girl.

Between Meditape and Say Something.

After Law Abiding.

So thats four slots for five sounds. Granted, one of them may be alone (beginning and ending with the tape noise), or maybe Two of them are contiguous and fit into one of the slots. Basically I just wanted to state clearly whats missing and what we still need. Hopefully either these four sounds will tie everything together, or there'll be another round of WAVs.

seems likely OT, but bergen county police in NJ has what appears to be a legit website. They were the first to use aerial patrols in the US, and their home page has a bitchin' MIDI of the "Law And Order" theme song.

I also think there is a piece missing between our_hoodlum and much_lifting. They just don't flow into one another.

Sorry for digging up previously discussed topics here, but even if Jan were the offspring of a Spartan, this fact would not give her any special powers or make her super-human (ie. being able to jump from the roof of a 3-story building unharmed). Although the carefully chosen subjects of the SPARTAN II project were from the start exceptional genetic specimens, they were never genetically altered, so they wouldn't pass on their heightened abilities to their children. In their teens, they were subjected to a rigorous battery of surgical augmentations; this is the source of their superior strength, speed, and other abilities.

On page 99 of The Fall of Reach, Chief Mendez states he is leaving to train a new group of Spartans (in the year 2525). Perhaps I'm going too far with this speculation, but Jan could be one of these subsequent Spartan trainees, planted on Earth as a secret defense of some kind, an ace in the hole.

Following is an excerpt of a message from Admiral Ysionris Jeromi to Dr. Catherine Elizabeth Halsey summarizing the augmentations that the Spartans underwent and their risks.

Code:

   Synopsis of chemical/ biological risks
WARNING: the following procedures are classified level-3 experimental. Primate test subjects must be cleared through UNSC Quartermaster General Office code: OBF34. Follow gamma code biohazard disposal protocol.
1.   Carbide ceramic ossification: advanced material grafting onto skeletal structures to make bones virtually unbreakable. Recommended coverage not to exceed 3 percent total bone mass because of significant white blood cell necrosis. Specific risk for pre- and near-postpubescent adolescents: skeletal growth spurts may cause irreparable bone pulverization. See attached case studies.
2.   Muscular enhancement injections:  protein complex is injected intramuscularly to increase tissue density and decease lactase recovery time. Risk: 5 percent of test subjects experience a fatal cardiac volume increase.
3.   Catalytic thyroid implant: platinum pellet containing human growth hormone catalyst is implanted in the thyroid to boost growth of skeletal and muscle tissues. Risk: rare instances of elephantiasis. Suppressed sexual drive.
4.   Occipital capillary reversal: submergence and boosted blood vessel flow beneath the rods and cones of subject's retina. Produces a marked visual perception increase. Risk: retinal rejection and detachment. Permanent blindness. See attached autopsy reports.
5.   Superconducting fibrification of neural dendrites: alteration of bioelectrical nerve transduction to shielded electronic transduction. Three hundred percent increase in subject reflexes. Anecdotal evidence of a marked increase in intelligence, memory, and creativity. Risk: significant instances of Parkinson's disease and Fletcher's syndrome.

[SPEC] Halo story tie-in speculation

Howdy. New here, been following the boards for a couple of days.

I'm more a Halo fan than an ARG fan, but I find the whole concept fascinating.

Anyhow, my roommate and I have spent the evening poring over the wavs, and we've assembled some theories from the Halo story perspective. Possibly trout, but we think we may be on to something, anyhow.

We think Janissary is a supersoldier of some type, either a precursor to or an ONI competitor of the SPARTAN II project. She's obviously very smart, and apparently, very physically superior to most people, too. Her "father" is a member of ONI (Durga and Jersey, as well as the interrogation, seem to indicate that he's not her real father, which lends credibility to the idea that he's an ONI spook in light of Jan's potential as a supersoldier), which also supports his behavior in wanting to prevent tests from being run on her, as they may reveal genetic or mechanical conditioning or augmentation if she is indeed a supersoldier candidate.

See Janissary (http://www.nationmaster.com/encyclopedia/Janissary) - essentially the Islamic equivalent of a Greek Spartan. That could quite easily map to ONI's competing supersoldier program.

We know that Aiden is working in the immigration black market, smuggling people onto Earth, but we're not sure what function he plays, exactly. We think that Celine isn't a mistress so much as a "business associate", and that the purpose of that particular story is not so much to reveal Aiden's infidelity as to expose his role in black market immigration ops even further. The upscale restaurant seems to indicate that either Aiden or his associate is very well funded, if it is a business dinner rather than a lovers' rezvendous.

It appears to culimate in an unexplained catostrophic event in Paris(?), New Jersey. My roommate thinks that the police station is possibly the beginning of a Covenant invasion, though this is pure speculation, and likely inaccurate. He also thinks that Durga may be one of Cortana's intrusion subroutines split off in First Strike, which may be possible, if one of them managed to escape the Covenant station. If one did escape, it would be highly fragmented and unsure of its own identity, due to the "analog copy" performed on that particular set of subroutines. Additionally, it would specifically be Cortana's system intrusion routines, which could easily explain Durga's proficiency for information discovery.

My roommate, resident military buff, informs me that Durga's mantra "Survive, evade, resist, escape" is a standard military mantra, particularly associated with the Navy's elite forces, namely, the SEALs. This might fit well with Cortana's (and thus, her copied subroutines') status as the indirect result of a Naval Intelligence program.

Our order of the clips is as follows:

1. dizzy (0:44)
2. escape (0:39)
3. jersey (0:39)
4. reflected (0:24)
5. durga (0:37)

6. pqi (0:45)
7. stupid cop (0:46)
8. yes or no (0:47)
9. hey dad (0:4Cool
10. nervous (0:43)
11. walkaway girl (0:41)
12. law abiding (0:30)

13. parasites (0:26)
14. eyes (0:37)
15. beer (0:35)
16. our hoodlums (0:50)
17. much lifting (0:27)
18. meditape (0:40)
19. guilty (0:42)
20. say something (0:32)
21. message saved (1:07)
22. tuna (0:4Cool
23. hi aiden (0:46)

24. emergency (0:50) (Seems to fit with 6-12 most closely, but there are no hard links)

There's also the very distinct possibility that we're both out of our gourds. Very Happy

Anyhow, thoughts, flames, and corrections are welcomed. Smile

I know nothing whatsoever about the Halo universe- I just kinda hopped in the ARG hoping for some ARGish action.

Does anyone happen to know any links to big chunks of Halo storyline information?
I don't even know who "Master Chief" is.

id say move walkaway girl up above pqi - because in the interrogation he asks about the dare- the dare was the 3 storey jump.

the others are good or contentious, but so far very good work ! least we dont need to trawl 50+ pages to find the order now .

waiting for last 5 (ask in beekeepers for dizzy and four goats) and check in with thebruce's site:

Law Abiding

Hopefully we'll get a .wav tomorrow that reveals the rest of the conversation Jan had with her father on the ride home. It seems as if they both share a secret other than the nature of James' job.

From dialogue in previous updates, we've basically come to the conclusion that Melissa is called operator because of her job on an unknown navy vessel. She oversaw communications on a ship that was spying on the Covenant. After the crash, and some repair to the AI via some autonomous sub-routines, Melissa gave a couple of monologues. The main point of one was the whole survive/evade/resist/escape thing. She also spoke about "whetting the system, sinking in like the blood that Odessyus spilled."

From here, we also noted the similarity to military survival classes...aside from the survive/evade/etc, Melissa also tried to find her bearings by making a Southern Cross to find north. Of course, you don't get far when you're inside a computer doing that :/

Soo...If you want more info, check out the ILB Wikipedia for most of what we have accomplished. Oh yeah, the Wiki is somewhat hosed right now...instead use google, and search for terms with the addition of site:bees.netninja.com command in the search. That will return a cache of pretty much anything up to a week or too ago.

spec on coral

Aside from Coral being an inner/outer colony...this is the future. Scientists today say that human expansion is less likely to end up on heavenly bodies before it ends up under the oceans on Earth.

Coral is an aquatic structure...perhaps Coral is an Earthen, sub-oceanic colonization (a la Atlantis)? They would still feel seperated from land dwellers because they live so very differently...no sun, under a huge bubble, artificial lighting, ecosystem is computer regulated and sustained...
