Please post a scan

Tonamel wrote:
Hey all, I haven't read the thread (also, I'm not sure I have the time to play right now) but I have relevant information! There was a guy outside the Game Developer's Conference all last week wearing extraordinarily bright green/pink/purple clothes generally ranting and raving all week long.

It wasn't until Friday that I heard the phrase "Jejune Institute" in the middle of his speech, and I knew I'd seen that here. So I stopped and asked him what he was talking about, and he gave me a "pamphlet" for the Elsewhere Public Works Agency with what looks like further ravings on it. It's got the radio station, some emails, three phone numbers, etc on it, so you might still find it useful.

If you guys don't have it already, I can scan it and post it up toight.

If you could, that would be great thanks-H

And here it is, in high-res glory! (Maybe a little TOO high res, but I wanted everything legible, and there's lots of little details in the background images)

Things mentioned:

Dolores Park broadcast at 107.9 FM
580 California St - Suite 1607
1888-717-7517
415.422.9601 or ejamuelSPLATyahoo.com
415-422-9699
elsewherepublicworks.com

It says "Friday April 2011" and while I did get this on a friday, I have no idea if it was a coincidence, or if there were other sheets the other days.

Drybones.

Ooh, thanks for the flyer post. Here is an interview with Dry Bones: http://www-2.crispygamer.com/blogs/post/2009/03/27/An-Interview-with-Dry-Bones-The-Most-Interesting-Person-at-GDC.aspx.

Hiya folks! Just got back from Vegas for the Weekend, so I've missed all of the excitement!

This drybones character seems like an awesome person to meet! I'm glad to see the experience growing even more.

Now, I would love to check this guy out, so where could I find him? Is he out every day?

Also, I think it would be great if a few more of us got together and joined drybones in the spreading of nonchalance. We've been talking about a meet-up for a while... I think this could be the perfect way to get together

He was at the corner of 4th and Howard, just outside Moscone West. He was always there when I went past during the day, but that may have been a special thing for the GDC.

new and confused

hello all. my friend and i found out about this ARG about two weeks ago and we JUST finished the map card and got into the 3LS3WH3R3 page. I've been scouring the web for info and trying to dodge the spoilers as i see them but now that we're at the end of the map card i think the only way forward is through this board.

A few things i had questions/worries about so far (and many appy poly logies for the WALL of text coming up)

The personal contacts to ARG players. it seems this isn't any type of puzzle game you can do much beyond the map card and websites unless you follow one of these ARG boards and see what the PM's send out to people personally via either email or phone calls even which is a little disappointing to someone coming into the game late and missing out on all the cool creepy phone calls and emails.

So far for me it seems everything on this trail is recyclable or bolted down so no one can take off with something while those behind them are hung out to dry.
Spoiler (Rollover to View):

There are a few exceptions it seems though. The 'miracle' package at St. Thadeus's Church. The Ebay item with a secret &_ commend on the blue prints, and the wave organ letter. all three of those things could only be obtained by a single ARG player/team and for anything to continue for everyone else is if 1) they shared the info and 2) other players found where they shared it. How are people who are unfamiliar with these types of games supposed to continue past the map card if all the clues are right here being posted by a handful of people who have been around since the start? i had to keep myself from reading this thread because i feared spoilers and now i'm basically forced to read it to figure out the next step. Don't get me wrong, i like the community it creates, but it's slight inaccessible for some of us and i wonder how one is supposed to get past that.

next problem i have is the relationships between the different organizations and the clues. i had to stop on page 25 of this forum cause i don't have that CD yet, nor have i listened to the radio/bought the transcripts so if i've missed something i apologize in advance.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):

Now what confused the hell out of me during this entire ARG was the relationship between the JJI and the EPWA and the breadcrumbs you follow. To my understanding so far the EPWA is a big advocate of nonchalance, like BIG, and the symbol for NC is the 'bunny TV' symbol as i've seen it called and they leave it everywhere for you. I also know now that because of a falling out and tech stealing that the EPWA is against the JJI and sees them as enemies and spreaders of false NC. Taking those things into account why is it then that the initiation card for the JJI uses the NC symbol as the trail markers? And why is following the JJI induction card that THEY provide a traitorous act? At first i assumed it was reverse psychology. you know. "don't do it *wink wink*." But looking at CaptKing's personal call it seems Oct was serious when he told you not to. Why? Why would a trail made by the EPWA be included in the JJI induction card if the two groups are rivals?

Ok. there's that and then there are the Unmasons. Unmasons are against NC (stealing teeth and all that). They used unmason bricks to weaken buildings they didn't like with subversive inscriptions. Why weaken St. Mary's Church? Why is the inscription that weakens the building the word 'Elsewhere' (a realm of the NC's) and include a locker number? sure, the number could have meant something else and then coincidentally fit the locker numbers within 580 california but then why would Jane use that number as a bread crumb to the Eva shrine and then to the 3LS3WH3R3 page of the NC site?

It's all a damn jumble. i love this ARG because of where everything is hidden and the participation of the 580 building and the chinese store and the St. Mary's church for letting them epoxy shit to their property but the logic behind the initial trail itself is wobbly at best. Again, maybe i'm missing something.

ok. done with the big things.

a few little (less ranty) things i wonder:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):

it's already been mentioned but has anyone tried going 6 floors above #1607 to see what's there?

Has anyone tried to see if there's anything in the 'tilted box' that you move to get the code for the 'locked box'?

What happened to the phone booth for Eddie, exactly? the cards are a tad hard to follow when the telephone booth is replaced with a small card paper clipped to the postcards you get in chinadown. did the city people take it away?

What exactly was the point of having /two/ lockers in 580? did Cerberus have anything to do with the story that you needed to see him first?

BIG small question: The Hip Hop Shoe Repair fliers i see along with all the JJI and EPWA fliers. has anyone checked those out? are they related at all? there are two locations for their kiosk depending on where you get the address from (flier or phone message)

were there actually live actors in this ARG at some point as claimed by this person?:

ok. i'm done. i'm gonna try to go to Dolores on Wednesday with my friend. hopefully we can figure some more stuff out.

Hello hello Everfalling, glad you could join us! I think I'll be able to answer *almost* all of your questions. If I miss anything, someone will step in and fill the rest in: as you know this experience is a bit confusing.

As of right now, there are two official "acts" that are happening. (Well, I like to call them "acts" for the sake of argument). The first act is what you have just completed: the JI Induction. And the second act involves visiting Dolores Park and completing the "radio transcript" objectives.

So, you are on the right track! Visit Dolores Park, listen to the radio broadcast and retrieve a transcript.

Now, as for asking about the clues left for us (i.e. the wave organ, the box at the church) I think these clues were simply to deepen the experience for the people who REALLY wanted to follow... or they were put there as place holders. You see, unforums got a whiff of this game back in October, that is when the first act began. Act 2 didnt start until April... so the PM's didnt want us to wait without having anything to "solve". So they planted those little clues there to entertain us, and make sure we did not loose interest. Also, it kind of deepened the experience for the ones who were REALLY entrenched in the game. Much like the Ornithopter Jumpsuit experience a few of us were called to do.

As for the JI-EPWA relationship. You know.... I'm not all to sure about it. I do not think the PM's would create something so big, and then mess up their story. I know it seems the EPWA was trying to help us follow the path... maybe that is why Octavio did NOT want us following what it says on the card.

Regarding the unmason's brick and the locker numbers: I really think the numbers were used just as another clue. As of right now, we are not 100% about the ENTIRE backstory of the JI. We do know that Octavio stole much information from EPWA, and then proceed to start the JI, but that is all we know. Hopefully we will find out more in future acts.

Now for the misc. questions:
-The "mysterious floor" is quite simply a dead-end I believe. We have tried to get up to the top floor, but to no avail. People are always trying though... Maybe it will be open someday, but for right now I think it's closed off.

-I haven't checked the box, but to my reelection it is sealed shut, but if someone heads down there again- check it out!

-The phone booth was either stolen/taken by the city unfortunately. Eddy's number used to be underneath the yellow pages.

-No one is sure what the Cerberus stood for. It's theorized it is "protecting" the key. Or, it could mean nothing, and it just adds to the "wtf-factor"

-The Hip-Hop shoe repair is a BIG part of the experience. Tay and Cornelius are actually former Savants! Jason7AU and I actually went to go find them, but we didnt see anything there. However, I didnt not realize that there were two locations! So, I might listen to the message and check out the fliers and see what I can find.

Hopefully that answers some of your questions! Welcome to the "Nonchalant Experience" Wink

the addresses for the HHSR kiosk are as follows:

corner of 16th and Valencia (stated on the phone message)
or
corner of 16th and Mission (stated on flier)

also, the EPWA site gives me multiple addresses to find the transcripts at:

The Effervescent Pirate Store - 826 Valencia @ 19th
Dog Eared Books and Consolation Prizes - 900 Valencia st. @ 20th
Stem Obfuscation and Clarification Center - 3690 18th st. @ Dolores
Needles and Pens Infradestructure Supply Store - 3253 16th st. @ Guerrero

but only one of them (the one at 900 Valencia) seems to actually exist after looking at Google maps street view. the others have much stranger names too so i wonder if they're false leads?

Also has anyone figured out if the addresses mentioned on the EPWA site concerning their facilities are real? there's no such thing as a civic realm nor a Thadeus street or w/e (i'll have to look again). has this already been discussed?

False leads.

> false leads?

Spoiler (Rollover to View):

You typed "862 Valencia" but on the website it reads "826 Valencia." Every location listed exists in our fragile but collectively agreed-on reality. Try some locations ... today!

I think you should still go down that area and check out the addresses. Street View is not always up-to-date and maybe the names have been changed.

Also, the EPWA address is a fake. We tried everything... it's a made-up location like "elsewhere"

And....
826 Valencia totally exists and really is a Pirate store and if you haven't been there you really, really owe it to yourself to visit.

Say, "Hi" to Karl while you're there!

@CaptKing

you missed answering my question about the live actors. do you know if at one point they had people doing public skits for the ARG or did that one person just capture two people who happened to be talking about the Jejune Institute?

also, do the transcripts cost anything? the envelope kinda took me by surprise when i had to pay $1.09 for it. i don't wanna be caught off guard with no monies on hand.

oops. made a typo. thanks for catching that. it'd have been bad to go all the way out to the mission only to look for a wrong address. i corrected my post.

Yes, there were actual people on the streets of SF. The "colorfully dressed" one is the guy I got the above flier from.

Oh, I'm sorry.

Yes, those live actors are plants to further promote the EPWA and JI. Not sure if they were planted by PM's (but I'm 99% sure they are). From what I can tell, he was only out in front of the Game Developers Conference.

As for the transcripts, I dont know if they cost anything. A few of us got them for free (http://www.ornithopterjumpsuit.com/). But I'm pretty sure they must cost something, can't imagine they would be that much though.

BTW, does anyone know if the actors are still running about the city? If they are, I would love to check them out with a few of you who havnt seen them yet.
