Hard to tell. They could have been trying for realism or additional evangelism to potentially interested groups, but I think giving the phone number would have been a bit too far. There's the off-chance the folks behind the game approached him and asked if he'd be willing to play a role, but that somehow seems a trifle unlikely to me.

Just a warning, Jorge also appears to be a real person, albiet someone who is at least following the game (his twitter account replied to PieTheory)

Jorgeguberte is a person who is a registered uFer. He's OOG, probably, unless there's something I don't know about Confused

Vigilante distinctly said "No" when I asked him about the UFO, and wouldn't go into more detail. Sounds like Baron is right-- he can't talk. If he is IG at all...

Nope, we certainly haven't solved the cuneiform writings. Closest we've got is trying to decide if they represent numbers or letters (well, sounds more specifically.)

If its numbers, I think they read (from left to right) 62, 10, 4. The reason I think its 62 is because the only logical reason I can yet deduce for the large triangle is to make it clear it is in the next "column."
Cuneiform used a base-60 system, the same way decimal is base-10, 62 would be written with a single marking in the "60" column and two markings in the "1" column.

See: http://it.stlawu.edu/~dmelvill/mesomath/Numbers.html for point of reference in checking the numbers.

The more unlikely alternative is, if they represent syllables/sounds, that they read from left to right, "a" "u" and "za." Those could be individual words or a phonetic spelling of a single word, or so many different things it is almost impossible to figure out.

See: http://www.ancientscripts.com/akkadian.html for point of reference in figuring out what symbols represent what sounds. Warning: can cause headaches and confusion. Razz

Hector's latest blog (03.29.09) shed's a little more insight into what the writer might've intended with the symbols.

On the website that jinx1499 posted there's the name of the owner, at the bottom...maybe we could ask him to translate the cuneiform for us. Maybe not.

I've downloaded and installed that Cuneiform Dictionary program, but sadly, "interpretations and meanings aren't available in the trial version", so, unless someone wants to buy it, its useless.

And yeah, I'm a guest 'cause I only come here to post in this thread, seems kinda pointless to make an entire account on this site for that. Razz
If you want me, I'm over on the official PIE forums, same name.

Interesting idea, since I doubt an accurate translation is possible without some expert help. Anyone brave enough to ask that guy? Razz

Has anyone got a good screencap of the cuneiform that Baron and Hector found on their house? We could send it to jah7SPLATpacbell.net and see if he can translate them. I'd do it myself but I can't get on youtube at school.

Edit: Got a response back from Baron regarding John Vigilante:
Quote:
Yeah, it sucks he won't open up. The guy knows things that are important to our investigation. Do yourself a favor Alice and take a close look at paranormal/UFO activity in and around Bucks County. You might be shocked at what you find.

Here, I threw together a quick montage of the best shots I could get of each image/them together from the YT video. Feel free to include the link to someone if you're emailing them about a translation.

(Quite big image, so wouldn't recommend saving it/attaching it to an email.)

There is now a PIE Theory screensaver to be had. It includes instructions on how to modify it with the javafx/NetBeans package in the recruit kit.

Anyone on this game know Java?

I've been following this game and a clue was released on Friday that is screensaver. Some of us playing have been trying to figure out the clue but I think it's purposely missing a few things about code in the instruction file.

@Paradus or Nighthawk? It seems you guys know something about programming. Can anyone help us? I've been playing with the areas in the instruction file that you can change hoping to make the red text in the file become readable but I think I'm missing something?

I'm still a greenhorn to this forum and ARGs in general so is it allowed to ask for coding help outside of this game thread?

Clue 1 starting point

Hi Sakai!

So i've been taking a stab at this for a couple of days and I got as far as downloading the netbeans 6.5 and opening the readme doc to import the clue file. When I run the program I can see the animation in the screen saver and I've played with the forces that are outlined in the readme doc that are open to modification. So far that has changed the speed and direction of the words as they float in and out but I have not figured out how to make the text more clear or how to customize the screensaver which you can do.

Would love to know how you fair with this. The clue download is found on the 4.3.09 feed under Hector's blog. The readme doc in that zip file gets you started but the left is up to us to figure out.

Let us know if you figure something out! I'm wracking my head on this Smile

Re: Clue 1 starting point

Are you referring to PIEScreensaver.zip?

The blurry red text says
Quote:
Within you Without you

When you move your mouse over the blurry text it says "The Rubaiyat" Wikipedia link
If you watch the screensaver long enough, it becomes clear enough to read directly.

Yes, so long as you ask politely (rather than demanding help), and you include a link to this thread so that people know which game you are talking about.

What kind of coding help were you after, exactly?
