15:35 Wauwatosa, Wisconsin coordinates
- Two payphones within a block, both labelled with "Will not accept incoming calls"
- Don't plan to return, although I'm not sure about the "disabled ringer" spec for "bad" phones.

Slightly OT here...
There's two payphones in my school, at first you could assume they don't take incoming calls because they don't ring when called. However, if you call, and pick up while it's "ringing" it can be answered. Try that with some of the phones that don't ring, and then when the time rolls around, make sure your watches are synchronized and try answering the phone when the time for your coord comes...

You might try calling up infomation and getting the exact time, becuase it might be possible that the phones are ringing in sync with that time. Then you guys might be able to answer the phone when it is 'ringing'.

Also, I have a firm belief that it is possible to get every axon to go hot. I don't think there is meant to be any dud locations. I think it will really be something if we can get to all the sites.

Time: Went after the time since I was at work. I went to just check if there was even a phone there. There was no phone. It's in the middle of a residential neighborhood. The acme actually has it sitting on top of a house.
Why it failed: Wasn't there.
Plan to Return: Don't know. The at the same time tomorrow I work but I may be able to squeeze it in before I leave. Either way I plan to scout the area before hand to check if ANY phones are in the area.
Advice to Others: It's pretty unlikely that there are any phones there and it's also unlikely that anyone else will check since it's in such an odd place.

Failure Reasons to consider

Well I'm hoping we'll see alot more light up tomorrow. Assuming Melissa calls I think we definatly will. Here's a couple thoughts that have come up and been discussed in the groups I've been apart of. I'm posting here since this seems the most logical thread to check if your looking into taking action tomorrow.

1. Can anyone confirm that your location was accurate to actual GPS Coords with a GPS Tracker? Can anyone confirm their location was inacurate with a GPS Tracker?

2. Look inside buildings. I know of three locations that were inside, one in a Pizza Hut, one in another building, and the one I was able to take today inside a Bus Terminal.

3. Bring somesort of sound shielding if your area is noisy. Seems Melissa is a bit sensitive to background interfirence.

4. Scout a wider area than you think you might need to...you never know...aparently a few went down like this as well.

Hope this all helps someone go "HOT".

1. Location (time and coordinates): San Diego 17:51 (32.736089 -117.14915)

2. Phone(s) did not ring. There were three possible locations, all not within sight/hearing of each other. Two were covered by folks from the first San Diego (16:59) location and were single phones, the third was a bank of about 4 phones and was covered by a large group of about 30 people. Neither single phone rang, so the other group ran over to where the 30 people were. They claimed to have made the axon hot, but as you can see - still cold. Assumption - either 1.) wrong response and not admitting it, 2.) too noisy to hear ring, or 3.) crank caller - there were reports that the San Diego payphone list had been publisized and people were crank-calling.

3. Plan to return - not sure, depends on day/time. Others who were there might.
4. Any notes for others that might visit the location - the two location we had covered were the phone by the carosel and mini-railroad, the other location was at the Veteran's Center. The bank of phones was near the Veteran's Center, but I'm not sure exactly where.

Same as celina63 exceeeept:
3. I can't handle that drive after work this week. It will kill me x_x
4. Check the right-hand entrance of the Zoo. It's about 1/2way between the Vet center and the actual Zoo entrance. Smile Also, don't be afraid to tell your crowd to STFU when it rings. I wasn't there to hear how all that went down, but I know people were getting rowdy near the end of today.

And this is for you celina: Palms don't record worth fluffernutters. Cool

Crowd: about 16, only 23 from Unfiction, 2 lurkers. Rest were Halo fans.
Phones: described in other post, 3 phones, closest one. 2 would ring, 1 would not.

Reason: no phones rang at all. All 3 phones were covered jst in case.
Phone #s (714) 563-0327 (main one to GPS locale)
(714) 778-9083: will NOT ring
(714) 563-0914 rings

Please note that the two that ring will give a loud whistle sound instead of the other person. Both sides get this sort of modem tone.

Reaosn beleived, these may be third party owned payphones Incoming voice calls may be impossible to these 3.

(bummer)
Word would be emergency, if we could have given it.

will be there tomorrow, at least I dont have to leave an hour earlier for it, since its 5 minutes from work.

(as a ps to all who I told about unfiction.com, welcome and have fun! Smile

Never rang with that message. Phone was verified to ring. (Rang later at 5:45 asking for 50 cents)
US West phone, next to cafe in the big center on the right side, coming from the north side.
I'll probably return. I'm bored.

I was at this Axon, and the phone rang at exactly 5:07 according to my cell phone. I answered and there was dead air on the other side. I said "Hello" twice, then clearly said "Melissa", "Operator", and finally "Law Obiding". After about two minutes of dead air and no response or audio, there was a disconnect.

This phone was the one on the WEST side of the QFC store, just INSIDE the door, two Qwest phone booths, the one on the left, closest to the Coinstar machine.

The gentleman in the Game Crazy store was not aware of any other phone booths in the area, but had heard about ILB.com.

1. 08:51 PDT 43.075049 -089.398353 Madison, Wisconsin.
2. The phone failed to ring, but it's operation had earlier been verified with a cell phone.
3. I plan to go back tomorrow, there are quite a few phones in the area so I'm going to pick up a GPS locater to ensure I have the correct one.
4. We *believe* that it is the pay phone outside the Catacombs Coffehouse on Library Mall, just across from the Memorial Library and right next to the University Bookstore.

Reason: Phone didn't ring/wrong phone?

We were in a check cashing place with a pay phone. Looked like the right place from the map, no other phones real close. Phone never rang, couldn't test it for incoming calls because the number wasn't listed. There's a Rite Aid nearby someone is going to check out tomorrow.

The coordinates pointed to directly in the middle of the busiest intersection in town. We picked the closest point with phones, an Exxon with two outside. No rings. May scout for additional phones near the intersection tomorrow and later this week.

Re: [META] Post here to document WHY Axons didn't go hot

10:08 PDT: -118.389788,34.077075 - you_could group - roughly speaking, the corner of Beverly Blvd and Doheny in Los Angeles.

Five payphones visible from this location - one on the street approximately 200 ft east of the intersection, the remaining four in a bank near the entrance to the Ralph's SE of intersection. Checked all for dial tone but not for ring. Both banks of phones covered, none rang.

Two Orion phones are visible across Beverly Blvd but are marked as not accepting incoming calls.

16:11 PDT: -118.359091,34.071102 - meditape group - intersection of 3rd St and Ogden, just south across the street of the Farmer's Market/Grove, in Los Angeles.

Six phones are visible from this location - two in front of K-Mart, and a bank of four in front of the Ross store (150-200 ft SE of GPS coordinates). The K-Mart phones are Orion phones and do not accept incoming calls; the Ross phones are PacBell and all tested positive for ring (though the ring is very quiet). None of these phones rang within ten minutes of the appointed time.

Maybe the coordinates are unprecise enough that the wealth of pay phones in the Grove or the Farmer's Market are also meant to be fair game - if so it would take a team of at least five or six to cover all the available phones (the Ross phones, at least two banks of phones at the Grove and a couple at the Farmer's Market as well).

Won't be able to hit any of the axons tomorrow - best of luck to anyone who's going after them. The meditape group is live anyway so the Grove location might not be worth the hassle.

Location had NOT been scouted by our impromptu party, and we got lost.
I might go out tomorrow before work & try to hit it, but then again, I might sleep in for the 1st time in many days....(it's quite possible others of the group WILL be going)

Also, I know @least TWO locations had the phones stolen...damn axon theives.
