[INFO] How to match GPS to Phones Ok, I'm almost positive this is how the GPS coordinates were created. Using http://payphone-directory.org phone addresses were located in cities. Then using the following GPS site
http://www.geocode.com/modules.php?name=TestDrive_Eagle
the coordinates were generated.
I've been able to verify this by using the addresses of the three phones axons we activated in Boulder to generate GPS coordinates. These coordinates matched the locations exactly.
In addition I was able to match another phone address to the coordinates for a fourth location we weren't able to find Tuesday. Again the coordinates matched to all decimal places.
SO... if you haven't been able to find a match try matching phone booths in the area using these two sites.
Good luck campers,

Just for the record You milage may vary.
I'm pretty much 100% sure, but that hasn't stopped me from being wrong before. If other people want to double check their locations and confirm or deny that this method works I would appreciate it.

Mapping GPS Coords Iky,
Not that this info is not helpful but it's been covered.
The main issue is that most people do not have GPS trackers.
Secondary issues (which there are many):
Missing/Destroyed Payphones
Non-accurate Coords
Payphones right ontop of GPS not recieving incoming calls
Confusion with "Operator" or "Mellissa" response- just say "Operator"
Outdated mapping- the mapped street (that the axon I activated was on)
was gone. A whole street COMPLETELY GONE. Since the street was gone
I almost left. Fortunately, I had mapped the closest phone to an address.
Just as I was pulling away I noticed a small libray sign that had the same
address. Bingo!!

Woops Sorry Iky,
I see that your method gives the much needed coords for a more definite
location of the phones.
Good find!!

Yes, you are right there are many issues with activating the Axons.
However what I am so excited about is that the websites that I have found give the exact GPS coordinates from the address of the payphone. Using these two sites in conjuntion one can verify the address of the phone which will ring. I believe this information will help solve the Non-accurate coords issue that people are having.
Granted I only have 3 points of actual data, and one piece of data which may or may not be correct, but I think this information will be helpful to people still trying to locate the Axons.

Yeah, it isn't exact on that one. Really close, but off.
For those of you who are curious:

Geocode: Lat: 34.000148 Lat: -118.481660
Hopefully this should help get people in the ballpark though.
Thanks for checking against your data.

Pittsburgh fired axon - geocode GPS match confirmed A successful axon firing in Pittsburgh yesterday was at a Best Western hotel whose address also generated an exact coordinate match when fed into the Test Drive Eagle search page.
Nice find, Iky!
Unfired axon hunters--do some triangulation with this tool before you head out today.

Well this method only seems to confirm the problem with the afternoon location in Dale City Virginia. Every payphone in Potomac Mills Outlet mall has the same address on the payphone site. From two in the
Off 5th
Nordstrom outlet (oops) that's closest the spot on the map, all the way to the other end on the back side. Yikes.
Interestingly, entering that address, "2700 Potomac Mills Circle" on mapquest gets you close to the spot that was on the orginal axons list. NOT the spot currently shown. But the goecode site indeed gets you the exact spot on the current list. With this methodology I think we confirm that the list points to a mall with approximately 60 pay phones spread across miles of mall.
It may be worth trying to stake out the phones at the nearest mall entrance (I think that's the
Off 5th
Nordstrom store) or the general entrance right down from that. Remote possibility: that Pizza Hut across the street from the "X". [edit: probably not; different address that maps a block away on the geocode site]
Now I'm worried about the morning one in Dale City because I think that's in a little plaza with (again) probably one main address but many phones.... I'll go look anyway.

Neither of my sites went hot (no phone calls received), but I was able to get exact coordinate matches with two likely phones (one that was covered but damaged, one that was not covered), so I feel safe in validating the results.

This method matches the 16:27 Boise, ID "pillow" axon. Pizza Hut one that was missed but we know which phone it was from the freaked out front desk girl that answered it. We should have somebody there this afternoon.
It also matches perfectly the 11:53 Boise, ID "eyes" axon that was missed due to someone calling the phone at the exact time asking for "bob". I'll make sure I'm there to get this one hot.

One thing I noticed is that the payphone listing is prone to human error or update issues. One of the phones listed on that site that the process gives the exact coordinates is now someone's home phone number about five minutes away (based on the answer to 'where is this phone number located?'). The actual phone number at the McDonalds is different.

This thread makes me both very happy and very unhappy at the same time. Using these two sites does certainly seem to indicate exactly how the GPS coords were generated for my area, in New York, but it also tells me that while 15 people were standing at a pay phone across the street from Fordham University, a pay phone on the 4th floor of the Graduate School building (where *none* of us could have gotten without a Fordham ID) was ringing with no one to answer it. My guess is that similar things happened at the NYU location, and Rockefeller University. At least now I don't feel quite so bad that despite our best efforts the NYC crew only got 2 out of 7

I have a dissenting data point.
The phone I answered was not on the site, though other phones in close vicinity were listed as not being able to take incoming calls.
I didn't get the phone number though. Next time.
