Yeah, I tried that already.

It's a valid barcode - its encoding seems to be UPC (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Universal_Product_Code).
When translated to binary, the barcode is :

101 0011001 0010011 0110001 0001101 0001101 0010011 01010 1000100 1011100 1100110 1000010 1001110 1110010 101

That is, twelve 7-digit numbers, with guard bars 101 at the start/end and 01010 in the middle.
Then, I tried to convert it back to numbers using UPC-A and got 125001 741350, but the last check digit (0) isn't the one it should be according to the wiki page, so I could be wrong.

I also tried those numbers in the babel login, but that didn't work either.
Then again, I don't think it's a real clue, rather some cool graphic to go with the army_evac text.

This is a binary code :

5-19-13-31-D-D-13-A-44-5C-66-42-4E-72-5

The name list on Babel's about page has been bugging me too...

T. Borgny, head of Acoustics.
L. Cole, head of Astrochemistry.
E. S. Williams, head of Biochemistry.
F. Bern, head of Computational Neuroscience.
L. Giles, head of Geomagnetism.
A. K. Deene, head of Quantum Mechanics.
H. Egberts, head of Second Harmonic Generation.

The first letters are TLEFLAH. Coming to mind:
THE FALL
HALF LET
HAT FELL
AFT HELL

dunno. just seems to conspicuous =P

Read from the bottom up, it's HALFELT. Half ELT? HAL felt? (2001?)

re: barcode
I got 125002 741350

and still, the check digit should be 2, but it's 0 here. Dunno
It might not be important if the numbers themselves are important.
