been lurking for about a week or so now and came across something semi-interesting. When Observer posted the "Rise of the Dirtnappers" site, I noticed Timsit's e-mail addy was on the page.

tsmitSPLATsci.kun.nl

googling "sci.kun.nl" came up with the website of the school he is currently attending; http://www.ru.nl/fnwi/ (Radboud University Nijmegen)

searching timsmit on their search engine brought up a news article;

http://www.ru.nl/fnwi/nieuws/nieuws/nijmeegs_filmpje/

Google translation

Calls from Hollywood, an item in the NOS news in detail to the floor in the World Runs Through, picked up by several blogs and all their video on YouTube. Tim Smit, a student at the Radboud University, and Thibaut Niels scoring with a self-made movie that now over half million times viewed. Naast het filmpje is er ook een website: www.whatsinthebox.nl Besides the movie there is also a website: www.whatsinthebox.nl

Thibaut Niels and Tim Smit made their video for the masterclass Master Makers: short fiction film festival in Nijmegen Go Short. Smith devised the concept with Niels, student Film and Television Studies at the University of Utrecht and put it on YouTube. Het filmpje What's in the Box? The movie What's in the Box? speelt zich af op de Radboudcampus en in Nijmegen-Oost en heeft een hoog Half-Life-gehalte. takes place on the Campus and Radboud in Nijmegen East and has a high Half-Life content. Half Life is a popular science fiction First Person Shooter, where players in the role of creep Gordon Freeman, a scientist who is from an underground laboratory that has to fight after a teleport experiment completely out of hand is.

Smit had success last year, when he collaborated with Steven Roeters a movie made for a Myth Buster Contest of Discovery Channel. That movie is now on YouTube over 470,000 times. In the movie they won a trip to the real myth busters of Discovery Channel, in San Francisco.

Ok, this is really a reach, but I figured I'd throw it out here anyway.

When I searched for whatsinthebox.nl I came across a result that pointed me to what looks to be another film project by TimSmiT. And, at the bottom of the page, our beloved box.

http://www.whatsinthebox.nl/riseofthedirtnappers/

Sorry if it's already been brought up.

Thanks, Observer... any new content from the site is a good find... how did you come upon that? It looks like TimSmiT entered in planet terror make your own trailer contest for the netherlands release of the movie in 2007 (GREAT flick, btw). Interestingly enough he didn't win, although the trailer is great and funny (with boobs, heads-up... Zombie boobs nonetheless) not sure how related it. I'll tear the poster apart in a little bit with photoshop, just to be sure though.

Nothing found, most likely not related... but a good short nonetheless Smile

In Dutch you can 'creep into a role' = adopt a role. (The correct Dutch expression is actually 'creeping into someone's skin', but hey: what do these students know?)

More about timsmit and his university here:
http://www.voxlog.nl/author/tim-smit/
(links to 2 short videos he made about the university.)
I don't think it's very useful though.

helps to rule out the significance of the posters, paper sign on the door, & other back round objects mentioned throughout the thread.

Another interesting fact... looks like on the 21st there's going to be a discussion at Science Cafe in Nijmegen about... guess what... HIGGS!

Higgs

Isn't a discussion about Higgs at a research institution hardly worth our attention? I mean, it's not like they're having a debate over the legitimacy of the UEC, or the ethics of the Babel Group.

Which brings me to another question. Has anyone seen anything concerning the Babel Group as a whole? Or the other constituents, Babel Products, and Babel Economics, for that matter?

Deep analysis of the website, and repeated internet searches have turned up nothing.

Why the news events from 2 October 2008?

Geneva, 2 October 2008. Following the successful circulation of first beam in the LHC on 10 September, the world's largest and most complex scientific instrument will be officially inaugurated at CERN on 21 October 2008.

Higgs, again

@Anesidora,

Won't any 12 pointed object work with that diagram, such as a clock face, or this decorated wall hanging: http://homedecor.cafepress.com/item/twelve-point-spectrum-rosette-wall-clock/346398436

I'll concede that given some of the set dressings on the site (planck time, equations, enstein, brout, etc...) that it's entirely possible that the Higgs boson will have some feature to play in the storyline of the ARG, however I sincerely doubt that efforts to use the 12 pointed image as rationale for investigation into the Higgs Boson itself will yield progress with the ARG.

Personally I'd like to see the decorative wall hanging in the box. That, or candy!

I doubt if your decorative wall hanging would be able to emit that spectacular beam like I saw in the film. And I fail to see the connection with October 2008. But I must admit: I don't know how they could fit this huge Compact Muon Solenoid thing into such a small box.

@Anesidora

I had posted that image around page... um... I don't know, 50? It is surprisingly similar, but who knows. The LHC is looking for bosons and the god particle, which coincides with WITB, but there's no solid connection... yet. Welcome, btw Smile

Nice finding. Although i won't think it will help us in anyway. But still, nice one!

Also look;

Guess now we can be sure it's the same room in both movies.
