Not sure why the woman is on there.

But they're all redlist animals that are thought to be extinct or are endangered.

Best I can do as for identification is:
Code:

Great Auk          Dutch Alcon Blue

?                  Humpback (but, without a hump?)

Tasmanian Tiger    ?

Butterfly could also be a Xerces Blue: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xerces_Blue

I totally linked you to that. >.>

Side note: Air_wick suggested that the marks might be the age/epoch/era each animal was in.

The bird pictured under the Great Auk is called a KIOEA (Chaetoptila angustipluma). Formerly Endemic to the Hawaiian Islands, but historically only on Hawai'i. Last seen in 1859 or early 1860's. The Hawaiian word KIOEA translates as "long-legged".

It can be found here, about a third of the way down the page.

*ETA I found the whale image here. The image has been reversed and the human has been removed, but apparently it's a Blue whale not a Humpback.

I believe the symbols underneath each animal correspond to when they became extinct.

For example: The Great Auk became extinct in 1852. 1852 decoded to binary =11100111100. Match this up to the symbols, the horizontal lines match the 1s and the dashes match the 0s. This also works for the Thylacine. The only one unknown is the human of course.

The human's extinction date is: 10101????

So, now we figure out the 4 missing digits.

Side note: 10101 is 21, so it's 21--, it seems.

And it's predicting when the animals on the right will become extinct. The blue whale will be gone by 2012 or 11111100101

*ETA The date for the butterfly 11110010101 is 1941, so I guess the cube was made long before any of the species were extinct. It was predicting the future. Some dates have passed others haven't yet.

**ETA I found the image they used for the Xerces Blue butterfly here.

Spec: maybe the 2169 on the cube refers to the extinction of man(or woman as it were)? Is... is the cube a harbinger of doom? This may have just gotten sinister.

Wilder spec: the cube is from the future. This cube is a warning.

New tab on the Electron Innovatins site gives direct access to the Cube Console. Sorry for the ridiculously long post on this one...it's a data dump.

Typing anything brings up the "Who Are You" page -- inputting name / password grants access.

By typing HELP, you get the following command list: HELP | GRID | PAGE # | SOLVE # | BYE

Typing GRID brings up a grid of open pages, in the letter-number form. Currently f3, b4, and c4 are marked as open.

Typing PAGE (open grid #) gives an encoded text string.
Typing SOLVE (open grid #) allows you to attempt solving the page. You have three attempts before it kicks you back to the menu.

BYE returns you to the "who are you" screen.

Page f3 (carriage returns added to prevent a really long screen)

It seems that each person who gets into the cube has 3 randomly selected cube grid squares unlocked. We need to get a1-6, b1-6, and so on as separate pages, so we need to organize our efforts to solve each row separately. I have d2, e2, and c6.

Also, jabroni, you create an account by giving an email and setting a password.

Each square in the grid is its own picture. For example, for square A1 you have to type page a1.1 , page a1.2 ... to page a1.8 and copy each part to get the full picture for each square.

If you look in the source of cube.js (which is linked in the source), it gives you an email of bboss1984SPLATgmail.com, which is Bertram. Not much there, but, yeah, just saying.
