S4e down in flames (or perhaps not)

It appears that the creators of Search4e have finally pulled the plug on their little venture:

I just received this email from James Pitt, one of the Search4e characters.

Dear Friend of search4e,

By now you know that True Crime Press has terminated its relationship
with search4e. Needless to say, I was disappointed by their decision
but with the passing of Owen McCleery, things have changed.

It's axiomatic that business is business and I understand why, when
they were forced to cut expenses to the bone, we ended up a casualty.
Still, I appreciate the support TCP has given up to now, and am
pleased that they will continue to publish my book. (Look for an
updated and revised version of Cry Fire - I'll let you know when it'll
be in bookstores.)

The good news is that at this point, search4e has developed a momentum
of its own. And I am confident that with the ongoing efforts and
enthusiastic collaboration of the online community, we can go on. To
that end, I have made a personal decision to become more involved on a
day-to-day basis, acting as de-facto search coordinator and (with a bit
of help from my new assistant) archivist.

As we proceed, we will be using the same website with some important
new upgrades to enable speedier and fuller communications than before.
Very shortly, we'll be introducing a new 800 number and will let you
know the moment it's up and running.

Thanks for your continued patience and interest, and most of all --
thanks for keeping the faith.

James

Looks like it's not over yet!

To all my friends:

By now you've probably gotten word that True Crime Press has ended
their sponsorship of search4e. Their decision is understandable in
light of events that have occurred in the wake of Owen's tragic death.
According to industry sources, the company is looking for a buyer and
carrying a long-term investigation on its books that had nothing to do
with its core business no longer made much sense. But I want you to
know that in spite of TCP's decision the investigation is going
forward.

Investigations, especially one as complicated as this is, are a
long-term proposition. They take time, patience and a capacity to put
up with a lot of frustration. In spite of the unforeseen difficulties
we've run into I don't want you to think that we haven't been making
significant progress. In fact, I have some exciting new developments to
report that are likely to put our investigation into high gear. I hope
to be able to reveal the details in the very near future.

I also want to express my appreciation to Nancy,Q, Heather and all the
other folks at True Crime who have invested so much support and time to
our efforts. And I would like to recognize Owen's contribution in
particular. Without his backing we would never have gotten off the
ground.

JD

It's live... Smile

Promises, promises.

Er, excuse me, while I go out to look for a dead horse to beat.
