Why do his recent blog posts seem much more deranged and certifiable than he appears on that YT video?

What are we supposed to be getting from all of this, or is this just an object lesson not to think too hard about the cube or it will melt your brain?

Okay, following Bertram down the rabbit hole:

Quote:
did the painter and scientist meet one man thinks so

the painter = Picasso? Carvaggio?
the scientist = Einstein/Hawking/relativity?
"Did they meet? One man thinks so."

Quote:
picasso paints don mclean a horrible murder

picasso paints = Picasso
don mclean = ?? (american pie/buddy holly/whisky and rye?)
a horrible murder = helter skelter

Quote:
the raven sits in asia as well as egypt

The raven sits in asia as well as egypt = yatagarasu?
(also connects to hieroglyphs? Khufu? Alexandria?)

Quote:
obelisks lead to evolution
its full of stars

= 2001: A Space Odyssey - which involves both an obelisk and evolution, which connects to the Obelisk and the Evolution puzzles?

Quote:
all life ends and begins anew from the earth

No idea. Mauna Kea perhaps?
(note: Mauna Kea also relates to Kioea, an extinct Hawaiian bird)

Quote:
the grand stone house sits next to the original man of renaissance smiling

The grand stone house = Castello Sforzesco? (which is in Milan -> Carvaggio was born in Milan)
Original man of renaissance smiling = Mona Lisa/da Vinci?

Quote:
the fish giver's secret

No idea. Who would be the fish giver?
Possibly related to "Catfish"

Quote:
history is relative

= a brief history of time/relativity?

Quote:
great world leaders sit across time around one object

great world leaders = Churchill/Kennedy
across time around one object (sounds sort of like the Antelope puzzle, maybe?)

Quote:
the players are broke but the executives are not

Players = Cardsharps?
the executives = Standard Oil?

Quote:
it all comes together

Yea, whatever you say, Bertie

Quote:
codes and bars and codes and text

codes and bars = Barcode puzzle/Rob Roy
codes and text = the 'Text' puzzle

Quote:
the cube may help

I'm hoping he means the fact that the cube will give us OCR capabilities next time it evolves

Quote:
if we're not hexed

Perhaps binhex code?

Quote:
read a book

there's only one possible end

I *think* this has to do with the solve for the Obelisk puzzle, which Mapmaker figured out required the right formatting for the ISBN numbers (i.e., don't put the last number at the end and put a zero at the beginning).

Quote:
the problem is not if but when

the path is obvious

*slaps B*

Quote:
kill the king

with all this knowledge

the play's the thing

No clues. Who would be the king? Macbeth, maybe? (connects to Rob Roy MacGregor?) "the play's the thing" is from Shakespeare, whom we haven't seen yet.

It's easier to act deranged in text than it is in person?

It's Hamlet. It's a play within play theme. The next line is "to catch the conscience of the king". The idea is to stage a reinactment of real events to catch the reaction of the guilty.

B's blog posts are kind of an enigma.
I've been wondering what he's trying to tell us when he uses terms like
"kiss" (Keep It Simple, Stupid.).
"forgot to take off the tinfoil" (tinfoil hat.).

On Bert's youtube and blog, he has been giving us hints as to what the number code is.

Quote:
code... hazardous for health

no not quite right

not enough

too much

need help

Quote:
Oh, and if you still haven't solved the code. Don't worry. Take your time. Despite the name, it won't kill you.

I can't find a code or cipher that fits. Anyone know what he's talking about?

If Bertram doesn't start become more useful, this might end up being hazardous to his health...

Hmm only thing I can think of is right now is Blowfish Cipher. Blowfish are poisonous and quite deadly when consumed (unless prepared just right)

It does sound like he's telling us we're not exactly on the right track with OTP. I certainly haven't had any luck with OTP.

Help!!!

I'm new-ish to the forum, so I don't even know who I would ask, but we need help.

It looks like the game is depending on us convincing Bertram to talk with Cray. The way to get to Bertram is to break his code..... which we are currently unable to do.

Does anyone know anyone here at UF who might be able to identify what kind of code it is.

Here's the information about Bertram's code:

At the bottom of this blog:

http://resurrectthetruth.blogspot.com/2009/04/leak_21.html

there's a code

6289 3052 7582

He says it's an easy code. so much so that a child could break it
also he says..."Oh, and if you still haven't solved the code. Don't worry. Take your time. Despite the name, it won't kill you."

here's another puzzle using the same code

6884 6884 3958 3958 6307 6307

That's all we have so far.

Also, on his most recent YouTube video, Bertram points out that someone commented on his earlier YouTube video with a mysterious (i.e., incoherent) message that seemed to promise useful information. Bertram, being the gullible idiot that he is, agreed to meet with this guy, who has the unlikely YT username of leifnwoeifneiINOID. This seems highly likely to be an anagram or something, but I can't anything meaningful (or rather, there's too many possibilities). Needless to say, we have yet to get any kind of report from Bertram about what happened at this meeting, if anything. Rolling Eyes

Had a few thoughts on bertram's 'clues' and code.

In his blog he wrote "Concocted Peeved Irish Kith", which anagrams to: "Check the video description." Alas, not much help, but no longer a mystery.

For the numbers in his video descriptions, I though that it might be related to text messaging, since his comments about it being hazardous to health (mentioned in an earlier blog post) and that we should be thinking like we are the senders, not the receivers.

This leads me to think that it has something to do with predictive text technology like T9 or iTap. So far I haven't had any luck with iTap on my phone, but wonder if any of the other phone brands might have better luck.

Here is a nifty little T9 emulator I came across for another game once

http://www.t9.com/us/#

I got nada using it, though. Sad

Hmm, well, catching the train of thought from someone earlier on, the numbers correspond to genes. If you take the chromosome from each, you get:

11
X
10
A
A
N
N
D
D

That's a bit too somethingy to be non-somethingy, I think. It fits in with the 'health' comments.
This means the answer would be... err, 11x10 = 110 = 6 in binary. Dunno what the AANNDD means.

@roc3 The only trouble with T9 is that, from what I can find, it lacks a 0 key, unless you took that as a space. However, there was a lot of hype about phones causing brain cancer, and then scientists disproved it... so yeah, possibly. Looking at my phone right now Very Happy

Well earlier tonight we think figured out the answer to a little "joke" that Bertram posted in his blog a while back: http://resurrectthetruth.blogspot.com/2009/04/another-theory.html

Quote:
How does math travel?
BY
_ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _
(Hint: What are some ways a human can travel?)

After some additional hints, we got

NUMBERS
STATION

which is a lame joke, but would fit with B's obsessive need to drop useless pointers toward his freakin' numbers code yet again.
