[Trailhead] Taku Shomatsu Twitter - I apologize if this is the wrong place to put this but I haven't really started a thread before and I am also fairly sure that no-one has posted this yet.
I was followed on Twitter today by Taku Shomatsu along with ~1000 other people including some names I recognize from here.
His twitter message is
modshomatsu wrote:
BBI.E DGI.E BI.E CED.E FBI.E ED.E CGI.E A~D.E FBI.E CGI.E EBI.E E~D.E E~D.E B~D.E ABI.E DED.E ABI.E
I'm not sure what kind of cipher that is. It's possible that it involves a vigenere but the fact that the characters are limited to abcdegi and ends with .e really throws me off.

cool, what is his twitter address?
edit: oops why didn't i see that
'modshomatsu' has no google results, anyone think it's code or just random?
(anagrams: can't see anything of use http://wordsmith.org/anagram/anagram.cgi?anagram=modshomatsu&t=1000 )
currently seeing if shomatsu taku brings anything useful up
(can't find anything)
I'm not a code expert but i notice some of the sets are repeated,maybe each set is a letter?
BBI.E (+ 1 BI.E?)
CGI.E x 2
FBI.E x 2
E~D.E x 2
ABI.E x 2

Interesting. Taking a look at the code...
Edit:
The picture that taku is using has the alternate text of "mod". it looks pretty interesting up close.

Also curious the ABI.E always ending all the msgs. Noticed the "AM I DEAD?" msg in "l33t" on the bottom right corner of his photo. Still trying to figure out what those grey "Symbols" that resemble to static are.

No Taku Shomatsu on facebook, myspace, or blogspot (under takushomatsu, taku_shomatsu, or modshomatsu)
The code is making my brain hurt. I feel like it should be obvious. At this point, IF we are supposed to be able to crack it now, the key MUST be on Twitter. I've tried using both taku shomatsu and modshomatsu to break it with no luck. Merg. Could the image be stegged, I wonder...
EDIT: also tried 4M 1 D34D on blogspot to no avail.

They started following me on twitter too. Here's what I've done. To make it easier, I've started ignoring the .E on every one of them until I see a reason not to. Then I went through them and arbitrarily assigned them numbers to make it easier, and that was before the 4th message, so the last two were tacked on.
ABI.E = ABI = 1
BBI = 2
CBI = 3
EBI = 4
FBI = 5
BI = 6
CED = 7
DED = 8
ED = 9
EED = 18
CGI = 10
DGI = 11
GI = 12
EGI = 17
A~D = 13
B~D = 14
C~D = 15
E~D = 16
From there I just put the messages in numbers, and looked for similarities to see what letters each one might be.
First Twitter wrote:
2 11 6 7 5 9 10 13 5 10 4 16 16 14 1 8 1
Second Twitter wrote:
11 10 3 4 12 14 7 10 2 11 1
Third Twitter wrote:
6 3 2 6 15 10 7 1
Fourth Twitter wrote:
17 14 1 8 1 2 11 1 18 1 8 5 9 10 13 5
I looked for some similar strings, and I found these have been repeated:
2 11
11 1
1 8
5 9 10 13 5
14 1 8 1
If nothing else, it makes it easier to look at what we have.

Good idea, I tried to organize them alphabetically (sort of) and add numbers to see if there was a pattern. Great minds think alike!

You can kind of see the lines and squares in the background and the message is quite clear

I tried it much the same way, only with letters instead of numbers. What I got was
ABCDEFGHEGIJJKLML
BGNIOKDGABL
CNACPGDL
QKLMLABLRLMEFGHE
With lots of luck and wild guesses I found this substitution:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
ISANYBODYOUTTHERE
SOMUCHNOISE
AMIALONE
WHEREISEVERYBODY
Tweeted back & am am now waiting for an answer.
