Yellow Brick Road

I think that the Yellow Brick Road puzzle has been solved, and was perpetrated by the Sleeping Princess. Check out http://www.ilovebees.com/yellowbrickroad.html

Note the "You've come to the end of the yellow brick road! Well Played!" at the very beginning.

But I definitely agree that this is not over yet.

Razz

I think it is realistic, and only because this will continue until we hit all of the coordinates. I think it's entirely possible that some coordinates will change. I don't think we'll have to hit all 210 three times and then 147 of them once more... that was just a "cover-all" statement. However, I'll bet ScarpeGrosse's sequinned hotpants that we'll get more axons. Be them websites, Payphones, or live interactions, we'll just have to get 210/777 to see!

Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgggggggggghh!

DM, Gunsmith - am I talking to myself here guys?! (Sorry, of course no one has to comment on anything if they don't want to, but maybe the huge 80+ page axon thread threatening to devolve these forums into as useless a pile of goo as the wiki has me in a bad mood.)

Why do we want to help Melissa in her present state? Other than a lack of an obvious way to do so, shouldn't we be focused on, you know, getting the Covie out of her before helping her build her transmission network (or, god forbid, giving her more intel about Earth and/or its location)?

As long as the Flea holds sway over Melissa, we shouldn't be viewing 777/777 as a goal to reach but rather a threshold to be feared, shouldn't we?

Not necessarily. We need enough information to make an informed decision about whether to let this continue... in order to do that, we have to keep activating axons and getting new audio clips.

It's certain that the Pious Flea is influencing Melissa. It's very likely, but not certain, that the Pious Flea is a malign influence given the Princess' reaction. (though that assumes that SP is indeed our ally... eep.)

It's completely unknown whether or not this influence is reversable. Hitting 777/777 could give us enough to repair the damage that the Flea did. We just don't know enough yet... so we must keep gathering information like the busy bees we are.

-- Steve's crossing fingers and toes that the 777 doesn't signify the total number of attempts we get to activate those audio clips... though a four-day window of opportunity would be about right.

Edited to fix a phrasing glitch, and to insert reference to the Princess.

I hear you on both accounts. I've had ponderings I don't even know where to put them and that axon thread is like a monster of it's own.

As for your question - we don't "know" Flea's goal here. Sure, we're pretty certain he's a Covenant AI hell bent on our destruction and that he might be a main vehicle for doing just that.

But we don't seem to have any other kind of interaction with Melissa yet, and since I can't think of a direct method that pay phones can result in the destruction of Earth, so it seems our best course of action would be to try and get as much information as possible.

Well, don't complain. The monster thread is serving it's purpose well and is containing the childish spec hurricane... plus it's fun to work up a guy who thinks that if he cuts his hand and his childs hand, his grandchildren will be born one handed.

Anyway, back on topic, anyone remember how many groups of 7 links were there in the URL puzzle from Phase 1? I've going going crazy trying to find out and nothing... only links to the dead wiki.

OT

I posted a couple of times and a topic on this already.

I think we need to get all axons hot.
At the least we should be trying to get one set of them finished.

As far as not helping Mellissa due to her possible Covenant infestation,
there is no way to stop it if it leads to the Covenant assault.

Halo 2 is coming out.

If this is the backstory to H2 then there is no way to avoid the invasion of
Earth.

Imagine that we stopped the invasion and Halo 2 never came out.
I would be extremely pissed.

Spec 777 possible sites, 111 snippets

There are 7 possible axon sites for each of the wav files. If they continue on the same path and give us new coordinates, we will need to activate two axons to unlock the new wav file.
I am not convinced that we need to visit sites with wavs that have already been released.
We will wake up one morning to a whole new set of coordinates, probably with a whole new dialogue we need to figure out as well. If this game runs until Nov we have a long way to go. Lots of files to uncover. If there are not new sites on Friday morning send me fishing...

I see it, but I think if the "hot" day were Saturday, more people would have been on it. Maybe if it's not completely done by Saturday, we can get another rush there (assuming new coords)? (Bring back Phil!)

Yes, but what if Halo 2 came out and it was just a 30 minute video of Master Chief thanking us.

That would rule.

Google Cache has it. I make it 44 groups of 7 links.

I'd get pissed too - to celebrate! My, my, that would be fun.

I agree with GunsmithCat on the two points that it's unlikely that we'll get all 210 without hassle - look at the number of "I turned up but it didn't ring!" posts, and think exponentially how many weeks it might take to get the last one or two! - and also that although we can't be sure we want to encourage the Flea, there's not much else we can do, and answering the phone shouldn't hurt anyone. Yet. The reason for the messages is so that Melissa can assess the damage, not reveal the truth - at the moment, at least.

I know all of you think that getting all 77 axons would tell us the truth, but... ive been thinking, what happens if the "truth" is our "doom"? -as a friend thinks, maybe its bungie as a back story- but maybe we are just setting up beacons for the Covies to come to? That would suck alone, and, what do the sound files have to do with the story of ILB?

Funniest thing I've read all day.

210 positive interactions? Donning the trusty PM fez...
"I know before I start that we will have a margin of error...could be anywhere from 5-30 phones that don't accept calls, are broken, or are surrounded by prostitutes. Rather than scoping out the site, I will make it so that each group of axons will be answered by at least two people. Once all .wav's are unlocked, not many people will still worry about the phones if the game moves on. This is easier, less work, and keeps the curtain more intact than tweaking locations after we see which phones won't/can't be answered. Besides, I want an exciting game...this requires rewards and challenges that are diverse, and I don't want the game to drag for a week because of three scraggler phones."

PF

Melissa expects that her crew will aid in repairing the damage. If we can show her that she is infected, she will let us fix her up.

Besides, if the names were switched to Ressurection Acolyte (SP) and Mighty Mite (PF), we would probably place our scepticism on SP...she wants to keep the truth from coming out, she steals M's memories, she shows her distaste for the Queen (and she's never said, "I hate what the queen has become"), and she is rooting for Dana (a.k.a. the killer).

If were inclined to like PF, we would see he killed the spider because she kept sacrificing important memories, that he has changed Melissa's directive to figuring out what caused the original tragedy, and that he is helping with the cole protocol by sidetracting M from escaping (possiby giving away the position of earth).

I still don't trust the flea, but there is an alternate reading to SP and PF's behavior.
