so you somehow know for a fact that it is the only game they are developing?? I'm sure if they had it there way you wouldn't even know about halo2. maybe there hiding something? duh?

Well, I seriously doubt that. If they just released Halo2, and no one knew about it, they wouldn't move nearly as many copies as fast as they will with everyone knowing about it, and anticipating it. If Bungie was developing another game, they would have announced it. That's the way the videogame industry works. It doesn't matter how amazingly mind-blowing a game is, if no one knows about it, it won't sell. Just face the facts, ILB is designed for 2 purposes: 1. To set up some kind of back story for Halo 2 and 2. To build anticipation for Halo 2. They did something similar to this before Halo came out, with the Cortana Letters.

What you are suggesting, however, is that even though certain elements like ONI and The Covenant are specifically mentioned in the Operator's Monologues, and even though ilovebees.com showed up in a Halo 2 trailer, and that it would be ridiculously foolish of Bungie to try to build buzz for another game just months from Halo 2's release..that somehow, despite all that, this is in no way connected to Halo 2? I find that very hard to believe.

Anyway, all this arguing is pointless, and it's distracting us from the more important issue: figuring out the connection between ILB and the story presented in these wavs.

Trying to DIRECTLY tie this game into Halo 2 is useless. There's zero evidence as to what the exact plot of Halo 2 is, other than the Covenant having invaded Earth.

Look at this from the standpoint that these events likely take place prior to the events of Halo 2, since there is no mention of the Human/Covenant war in any of the available sound clips. I do believe that there is something to be learned from all of these snippets, but it will not be entirely CLEAR what it is until the very release of the game.

The Cortana Letter's didn't make a whole great DEAL of sense to anyone until Halo: Combat Evolved was even released.

Anyway, I'll be posting with a large list of known facts and some general SPEC soon. We really need to get this thread back on track.

We did refer to Durga being a goddess earlier.

With that information we also brought up Jersey saying "Trust me, it's at least partly right." When he named the AI, Durga.....

I think he means partly right in the sense that when threatened by an 'evil' force ie deletion, the system 'durga' destroyed the evil 'genie'

That leads me to believe that Jersey is familiar with the culture behind Durga and that possibly he sees a visual clue that prompts him to name her as such. Something we don't have...... yet.

Durga's definition of the name, she was able to take out this moded avatar, and it prob takes a bit more than a simple thing to that. So she's almost like a god of AI (to him), so it's partly right.

I believe this was stated before, but that was probably because the first thing she did was kill his computer's AI, and Durga is a Hindu warrior goddess..I'm going to read over the stories again, but this is probably not that important.

However, I doubt that Jersey considered Genie to be a "demon". Durga was a savior, a holy warrior that waged war on demons. I don't think we have much besides her incredible power to correlate to the name. Durga (the AI) appears to be nearly omniscient in her abilities.

Edit: Wait, she did kill those two ONI constructs that were trying to get into Jersey's system. This is a stretch, and I know that ONI is an acronym, but "oni" in Japanese means "devil" or "demon", so maybe she earned the name by killing those two constructs. *shrug*

Yes thats what we discovered earlier...The idea about it being called Durga because of it's godly AI personality and destructive capabilites seems the most likely idea.

I still really think Durga as Covenant AI is a good fitting theory. The momentary blackout in the audio clips could be the point of entry, when Durga was implanted. I think the name Durga also hints at Covenant involvement. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the Covenant itself is a union of alien species who united to fight against humanity, right? So in the Durga mythology, the gods united themselves to fight against evil, and the avatar of their union was Durga. The parallels there are pretty striking to me.

Proly from the Department of Redundency Department, but, Trout me:

Some info on the Hindu Goddess "Durga"
http://www.123durgapuja.com/goddessdurga/

Interesting bits:

"magnificent goddess with many arms"

"depicted as extremely beautiful and full of rage"

That's a good point about the union on the gods resulting in Durga. However, from First Strike, it seems that the Covenant weren't known to have AIs until Cortana captured the Ascendent Justice, and even then, the AI appeared to be a modified/slightly rampant version of herself, which seems to indicate that the Covenant managed to replicate and modify an ONI AI for their own purposes. The Covenant AI was...fanatical in how it addressed Cortana, and its language was frought with religious undertones, which we don't see in Durga. The entirety of Covenant communications are frought with religious terms and honorifics. Additionally, the name "Durga" was given to the AI by Jersey - it isn't self-assigned.

Except Jersey named this AI.

Wow, good call on that. A very interesting theory. The Covenant are repeatedly noted throughout Halo canon as being deeply religious. Most of their language is littered with flowery praise of "The Gods" and of a righteous cleansing of the human "horde".

The more spammy posts there are, the harder it is for people to read legitamite posts. Did anyone even read The Celestrian's specs? Confused

New peeps/guests: Please search the forums. There is a good chance that if you tripped on to this site or on to ILB that what you have to bring to the table is already there. Surprised

Back to something OT: Any spec as to what will happen once the "memories" (if that is what they are) are pieced back together? I'm more interested in hearing about "What we're missing" in this game... other than the new names and their relation to Melissa and SP.
actually in this one occasion it worked Very Happy
