Contacts Needed for Game Launch
Interaction thread is good, but a little out of date

I have been "volunteered" to collect names and addresses for a game that I am helping to work on which will launch in the summer of 2009.

I have looked over the Interaction Thread and have gathered some information there, but what I am interested in is getting an up to date list of people who may be interested in receiving the launch in the mail.

Since I know that people enjoy different types of stories, and would not want to burden folks with receiving something in the mail that they later find out is something that they would not be interested in participating in, I am inclined to tell you that the story is a horror mystery.

If this kind of story is something that you might be interested in receiving a launch for simply PM me with your mailing address and when the game launches in the summer of 2009 I will make sure that you receive it, no matter what part of the world you live in.

Please note that most of the Real Life interaction will occur in the country of the United States in states like Ohio, New York, Pennsylvania and the New England states. However, there are ideas in the works for a more global outreach.

In summary, if you are interested in getting a launch in the mail in the summer of 2009 for a horror mystery story, please PM me and I'll make sure that it gets to you.

I thank you very much for your time and I hope to hear from you soon.

UPDATE: The game that was officially going to launch in the Summer of 2009 has been put on hold until the forum calms down. So, expect something in the Fall, instead of the summer. Just a heads up.

Question Just out of curiosity, you think there are too many games playing at the moment to get people interested in this game? Or do you mean something else.

You might not know what other games launch in the fall right? Just thinking along here. This is not a threat Wink .

Honestly, I've thought the same thing; there seems to be too much going on right now. Small indie ARGs might have a hard time competing for attention against the big guns.

There is a typical uptick in the number of games launching during the summer as people are out of school and have time to devote or experiment as the case may be.
I'm hoping this year's crop is better than those years when there were high-traffic games bringing in lots of new folks just before summer break, which was invariably followed by a glut of failed launches.
And I suspect that more of the "big guns" are getting their clients to buy into the fact that player availability may be better during the summer months. Not that many clients would move their product launch or release dates. But it could happen.

Just to comment on this point, it's not about competing for attention at this moment. We believe that our creation will be able to attract a good portion of attention. Our reasoning for postponing the launch is much less selfish than that.

No offense taken or given.

As the community population continues to grow I assume that you will see this trend continue, getting larger and larger as the years progress.

I am sure that we could start a whole meta section on when is a good time to launch your game, assuming your team has the time in their lives to spare. And, I am sure, the discussion would lead to how your game design may determine when a good time to launch is (ie., weekly updates don't require as many full time players as daily updates, pace, etc.).

I can not speak for others, but when you have clients you live by their rules. You may be able to suggest holding off, but I doubt you would be able to get them to budge. Time is money, after all.

As for our reasoning?

The large number of beginning PMs launching their games right now and throughout the summer does have a lot to do with our holding off. But not in the way that you would think.

We have confidence that our project will not have a hard time getting "attention", as you put it. In fact, that is the one reason why we are holding off.

For some people, the creation process is instinctive. For others, it takes a little trial and error to get it right. We have decided that the community, as a whole, is much better served supporting those who need a little trial and error than attempting to take players away from them.

So we will spend the summer months doing our best to welcome and support the noobs in the hopes that the next Elan Lee is out there somewhere. Then we will regroup, get our brains in gaming mode once again and then proceed with launching our game.

Selfishly speaking, anything having to do with New England automatically means I'm in. I'm a NH girl and have a tough time finding games centered in my region. Most of the games I play take place elsewhere (the latest is actually all over the world) so it would be nice to be able to play in my own backyard, so to speak.

I live in the middle of nowhere in Southern Ohio. Anything that involves me not having to go too far (14 =/= driving) is great in my book.
