Although, on puzzles, has anyone had a think about the InactiveWear commercial? I feel like with all that number stuff happening then there ought to be a secret in there, but I haven't been able to get a handle on it. Maybe it's just a (very funny) red herring.

The numbers are 011iver's phone number. I called once and got his voice mail but didn't leave a message. If I had something to say to him I would call again in hopes of getting a live person. I guess I could inquire about the pricing on the t-shirts since there seem to be none on the inactiveware website.

You get prices if you click on the links for the t-shirts (name or image); they're all $16.99 or $17.99 -- click to buy them and you get to CafePress.

While the numbers are O11iver's phone, I think something funky might be going on -- partly from the sheer weirdness, and partly because
Spoiler (Rollover to View):

it's listed with a 1 in front on the video, but without it on the site. I don't know American phone numbers; is that of any significance? Then there's the business with the adding: add all the digits in the video together and you get 46, like it says; iterate and you get to 10, like it says; iterate again and you get "1" -- but that stage isn't in the video. Why? Then in the next run through the numbers it goes "one plus seven plus ???? plus eight . . . " -- where the ???? sounds like "ane" or possibly "n". If n were the 1 then that would give the same solution. And if we did all this with the number as written on the site, we get 7+1+8+7+5+3+0+6+3=5=45, 4+5=9.

All this may mean nothing, and probably does, of course.

More things I'm wondering about with the video:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
I wondered if the colors mean anything, but they just cycle RYBG, breaking at different points with different numbers of cycles. Can't get anything from that yet.

What exactly is 011iver singing at "Order a shirt and then ????? and then do it again and don't you hesitate" -- sounds like "count the plaid"? Will this make sense if I buy a shirt?

Questions!

I'm back from my "short" ARG break for this one...probably.

Ok...we are probably waiting for the date to happen, I don't know. Anyways, I played around a little bit with the MBILF site. A couple sites that either don't exist (yet) or exhibit strange behavior:

http://www.mbilf.biz/members.html
A nicer login window for...what? The admin site? Our known u/p does not work. It's probably just the member login broken, because it's not supposed to be accessed that way.
I am barely awake enough - not to mention out-of-practice - right now to be sure, but maybe this is interesting or maybe it's a generic code snippet:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
fullURL= userFolder + username + "~" + password + HTMLextention; // compiled filename the loads user-file

http://www.mbilf.biz/webcam.html
The "ask RAM savage" link is replaced by an inactive webcam link on the members page. Clicking it leads to this 404 screen.

http://www.mbilf.biz/users/
The same 404 screen. Tries to load the images that are not inside the local folder. Probably a common sight when trying to access subfolders.

The number on MBILF is 347-284-6782 or 347-2TIN-RUB in phonespeek. The alphabetic part of the code is reverse for "burn it".
I also put 718.753.0635 in a phonespell. Obviously won't fully work, but the one I used adds a digit (because this will still make the number work, I learned) and the result is this:
Code:
71-up-530-meld     71-up-530-melt     71-us-530-meld     71-us-530-melt

It's probably nothing, but the "melt" part is at least an interesting connection in this context. Very Happy
On second thought, "meld" works fine, too...

But Hex is right. The adding numbers thing in the video doesn't add up. Excuse the pun.

Given that both phone numbers work, I'd be surprised if they encode anything in themselves (unless there's a way to pick your phone numbers?) -- but I'm sure that at least something is going on with the phone number and that video.

I got an e-mail from Tim that drops in "we dial a 1 before our numbers here for country code sometimes" (I didn't ask him about that; just mentioned it here), which explains my question, and feels like it's either a hint or telling me I'm on the wrong track -- but I don't know which!

Other things from my correspondence with Tim and O11iver
- Both of them encourage me to call and make videos; it looks like they're keen to develop the plot that way. Am tempted to rack up a phone bill just to do it! I don't have a cam; can anyone who's made a video tell us if it's led anywhere yet?
- O11iver mentioned that sales have been low on inactivewear. That might be a hint. Again, tempted to splash out and buy a shirt to see what happens but need a bit more motivation. Anyone bought one? Also, does anyone know how CafePress works -- will Tim and O11iver be mailing the shirts, or does it come from the site?
- Getting nowhere on the online chat thing, but am hoping I can keep pushing it just because of the expensive phone call thing.

I'm never going to get any work done . . .

I encourage you to call and make videos too =) There's a big push for cooperative creativity here. Go wild!

And btw, if you want to avoid expensive international long distance, try something like skype. I think their current rate to call the US is about 2 cents (USD) per minute.

If you place an order on CafePress, CafePress handles all the billing and shipping.

011iver's twitter name is "011iver 6811779". The number could represent a model number or is more significant? Wonder if Rowan can sneak in a question about this on their date?

Chuck posted a new video on her tweet:

A response to the dating tips. Something tasty for the picnic, hehe.

Well that video certainly had an unexpected opening! Laughing

I really enjoyed the cooking video at the end. Smile

And,sadly, o11ver's Flickr is still empty except for an email which is different from the "inactive wear" one:

I'm just happy I managed to work broccoli into the story. Finally one game has hit my long-standing uF profile trifecta of 'interests'!

discussion about the JS used for the admin login

It's the previous version of that script. Some people complaining you can easily read out the pw. I can't see how. You think we are supposed to do that?

I was thinking about phone numbers and the admin password:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
As I see it, we've got an outstanding hint without a puzzle for it (the inactivewear commercial) and an outstanding puzzle without a hint (the admin username and password). So I tried matching them up. I added together the digits of Ram Savage's phone number, like in the inactivewear commercial. That got me to 51 (or 52 with the 1 in front). Which then takes us to 6 or 7. So I tried all four of those, spelt out and in digit form, as passwords with the usernames lugnut, carolcoldoil and ramsavage.

Got nowhere. Probably on a hiding to nothing. But maybe adding together Ram Savage's number might be useful at a later point.

After finding the link hidden in lugnut's last video I sent him a message asking what he was trying to tell us, and whether or not we could help. Today I got a response. It was in binary- and when decoded, it was in 1337, which when decoded said:

Quote:
"There was of course no way of knowing whether you were being watched at any given moment. How often, or on what system, the thought police plugged in on any individual wire was quesswork. It was even conceivable that they watched everybody all the time. But at any rate they could plug in your wire whenever they wanted to. You had to live - did live, from habit that became instinct - in the assumption that every sound you made was overheard, and, except in darkness, every movement scrutinized."

That's a quote from Orwell's '1984'.

Either lugnut is just one severely paranoid robot, or he's leading us to something. 'Orwell' or '1984' could be usernames or passwords for the admin login, or they could be added to the end of a url... I've tried a few things, but no luck yet. Have at it Smile

EDIT: It may be worth noting that the title of the book is actually spelled out as 'Nineteen Eighty-Four'

Just realised there was an avenue that, as far as I know, hasn't been explored yet, so I got together H(e)x's sweet little body, had a photoshoot with rocket lamp, and sent some images to adminSPLATMbilf.biz, like it suggests on the pictures page. Check it:

(click for biggy)

Will make a video for O11iver tomorrow, if my name hasn't been sullied across the internet . . .
