Coral is presumed to be another planet:

1) Sophie hasn't told her mother on Coral about Aiden because he's just so "Earth."
2) Aiden has helped people immigrate TO Earth.
3) There are enough Halo links to assume that we've spread off of Earth.

In the last 20 pages there's a lot of argument as to whether there's a missing clip between our_hoodlums and much_lifting. I maintain that there is no missing clip:

1) There's one clear missing clip left, and only one clip we haven't unlocked. 'pillow' will go between 'blip' and 'walkaway_girl' because we don't even have complete sentences there.
2) The conversation in 'our_hoodlums' flows just fine into 'much_lifting' -- Sophie chimes in to Kamal's sentence to say that Aiden isn't one of "our hoodlums", causing them both to laugh. Then Sophie says wistfully "Exactly..." before elaborating about how her mother would react if she DID tell her.
3) What content would go into such a gap? There's another whole 45 seconds of them talking about her mother? I doubt it.
4) If you listen to large.wav posted elsewhere in the thread, it's difficult to even tell where the transition WAS.

Just my personal pet peeve topic in this thread, sorry. Smile

SCRIPT:
Sophia: One of our hoodlums.
Kamal: (laughs) Yeah.
Sophia: Exactly. Mom would say she understood, but...
Kamal: Then you'd pay.

What's her mom to understand if Sophia hasn't told her about Haiden. The comment "Mom would say she understood, but..." reveals that there is something there that Sophia is telling her mom, that would evoke that reply. But clearly the previous conversation (our_hoodlums.wav) is discussing what Sophia ISN't saying to her mom (her relationship with Haiden).
Sounds like there's something missing in between those two wavs to me too...

the reason it sounds like a lower tone of voice is because it's HE who says it, not she... So your theory, unfortunately is blown away...

Re: and she says "yeah..."

MasterKirk wrote:
at the end of our hoodlums, you can briefly hear her say "yeah.." in a lower tone of voice. She wouldn't say "Exactly!" if she had already said that. Listen close. If you say "yeah.." after a joke like "our hoodlums," you take it into a new topic of conversation. You wouldnt erupt "Exactly!" This doesnt pose any conflict if there are more than 30 clips to be had.

I'm not convinced that's even "yeah" -- the file cuts off in the midst of it. If you listen to large.wav that pieces them together, it flows right into her "Exactly".

At this point I'm going to break out Occam's Razor, though: The simplest explanation is probably correct. You shouldn't make any more assumptions than the minimum you need to explain something.

So we have two situations:

1) There is no clip between our_hoodlums and much_lifting, meaning pillow will go between blip and walkaway_girl. This will mean that all the clips given to us are used, and we have stories that make sense for all of the arcs.

2) There is a clip between our_hoodlums and much_lifting, meaning that pillow MIGHT go there or MIGHT go with blip and walkaway_girl. This gives us one missing clip still, and the assumption that we'll magically get more.

Given the incredibly nitpicking nature of the arguments from the 'missing clip' camp and the large number of assumptions you have to make in order to have a missing clip, I still firmly believe that there isn't a missing clip. I'm not sure why I keep bothering to respond, but illogical people bug me, and I have yet to get a logical argument for the missing clip. I'm not trying to attack anyone, just trying to clearly state my view of things and hopefully get a well-reasoned, clearly stated counter-argument if one exists.

*sigh* I should stop reading these forums before I drive myself nuts.

On the current debate, I listened carefully and I'm convinced the transcript should be revised from:

Quote:
Kamal: A hoodlum, just that he's not...
Sophia: One of our hoodlums.
Kamal: (laughs) Yeah.
Sophia: Exactly. Mom would say she understood, but...

Take a listen for yourself to the attached file.

EDIT - sorry, had to remove the file - it was causing some sort of weird system error. If you want, place this file somewhere else and link to it. Again, SORRY for the deletion!!! - celina63

/me suddenly realizes he was hacking away at audio with the one and only dorkmaster last nite... My face is now melted off. (enough shameless grovelling and brown-nosing).

First off, in defense of those saying she says yeah, it does sound like after he says yeah, she says yeah as well EDIT: However, I still believe the two clips fit together just fine.

ltnadonis: she is explaining what her mom would do if she told her about aiden which, clearly in our_hoodlums, she hasn't done. She is now simply expanding on why she wouldn't tell her mom about Aiden.[/b]

Wow. Just got back from school and am listening to the whole thing through...the one that excites me the most is "Emergency." It would be really exciting if Jan's dad is the one who set fire to the police station to "fix" the problem...there was some tricky stuff (the fire sensors not working, so therefore no sprinklers, dispatcher AI taking its time so that the police station burns EVERYTHING).

We could have a possible connection now between the AI on Jersey's computer and Jan's dad. The AI seems obviously military, and Jan's dad has some "Tricks" and people he is protecting.

Combined Act 2

Here is a fully combined Act 2. I had to mp3 encode it at a slightly lower bit-rate to get it under the 8MB cap on these forums.

Sophia says she can't tell her mom, because Aiden is just "too Earth" and her Mom wouldn't understand.
IF SHE DID, "Mom would say she understood, but..."

It's all a discussion of what would happen IF she told her mom, which demonstrates why she hasn't.

They both say "yeah" it's just that hers is much shorter
I might be wrong, but my ears are telling me otherwise. We'll just have to wait and see.

There is a fraction of a second of complete silence at the very end of our_hoodlumds, if you trim it with some kind of audio software the two wav's fit perfectly.

edit: probably not a mistake but unneccessary nonetheless
