[SPEC] Time Distance Location - Coordinates and Bases

To be digested.

2552 is the year Halo takes place. Any transmission bearing information to the covenant sent this year (2004) would therefor take at least 548 years to reach them or else they would have already attacked Earth.

Assuming the Pious Flea has the capability, which it most certainly would, to guarantee reception of its message it would try to arrange a tight beam transmission using our primitive slower than light media. So the trasmission would be unlikely to be heard by a random ship but would be guaranteed to be heard by it's recipient. This transmission would be aimed at a major Covenant base.

The Beehive Cluster M44 is 550 light years away.

So many, many bees.

EDIT - deleted duplicate thread; moved to General/Updates; optimized title for superior performance a la Pentium - SG

Excellent find. I'm an astronomy hobbyist and I was actually going to look into this.

Damn, these guys really did their research.

Great observation, Pilgrim. I'm going to be thinking about the implications of that for a long time.

Indeed that is a good find but would like to point out a little mistake. When I did a yahoo search about the Beehive cluster numerous sites said it was 577 light years away. Which makes more sense seeing as how the Covenant would still have to travel to Earth after getting the message and that the communication would be less than the speed of light.
