I had something similar happen in the first T.V. To prove I could be trusted with relics I created a site documenting my archeological work as "The Professor". I channeled my inner Harrison Ford and had a blast with it. It worked, but it ended up directly influencing the story for me, so plan ahead. Wink

T.V.'s reply to my last turn:

Quote:
You search frantically for a way to distract or fool the ghost while the dirt clutches your hand – or you clutch it, you can't tell the difference. In the cabinet, you find a life bead and a love letter.
The hulking ghost is large, but slow. "I'm coming to get you," he says from across the room, but he takes his time getting there. "Just give her back, and I won't have to do this."
You swear you can hear the dust in your hand crying in fear. Or is it your imagination?
You may take only one item per turn.

My reply:

Quote:
Looking over my shoulder at the approaching ghost, I pull the lifebead from the cabinet. Looking down at it in my hand, I compare it and the warm glow it admits to that the tiny dust ball emotes.

"Well, it's better than nothing."

Turning towards the ghost I yell out, "Here buddy, catch!" and throw the lifebead away from him as I prepare to sprint for the door.

It's a telephone cipher. The numbers map to the keys on a telephone, and the slashes tell you which of the letters to use. The code translates to:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
THE TRANSPORTER DEVICE CAN ONLY TAKE YOU TO PLACES YOU HAVE ALREADY EXPLORED BEFORE.

Still no ghost roach eradicator?

I haven't gotten anything yet telling me I'm on a waiting list. I wonder if I should expect it?

As the butler leaves, I call "Thank you Mr. Unsound". I had caught his name in the village paper laying on the table.
Looks like it is back to the lab for me.
As I slap the button, I give a quiet "Whopeee" for the ride.

Quote:
Expressing amazing professionalism, you call the butler by his proper name, definitely earning yourself points with the boss. When he is gone, you slap the button and enjoy another ride through the mansion – this time guilt-free.

You drop through the floor and slide rapidly through the ground, up, through the walls, across the top of the mansion, and down again through the walls. When you stop with your feet on the floor, you are back in the silver laboratory. There are many things nearby, including a long operating table, a set of vials, and an enormous, bubbling container in the middle of the room. In front of you is a door, and to your left is another door.

W00t, finally heard back from T.V.! Seems my lifebead trick worked!

Quote:
You grab a life bead from the cabinet and hold it tight. This is a familiar item to you, and you decide to give its powers a try in a different way.
As the ghost lumbers toward you, you run in its direction, making for the door, and you toss the life bead away. It bounces off the wall and rolls under a chair.
The ghost makes a confused, grunting sound and stops in his place. "Sarah?" He turns toward the life bead, apparently convinced it is the piece of dust he seeks, and begins to stumble around looking for it.
The warmth in your hand increases as you grip the dirt safely in your palm.
With a quick dash, you are at the front door and have run outside.

There is a well not far from you. One house stands to your left, and three houses are off in the distance to your right. There is a church near the well.

I sure hope I don't end up back in that well... Confused

Here's my reply:

Quote:
Looking down at the glowing ball in my hand I smile in spite of myself.

"Looks like it's just the two of us."

Realizing how silly I must look smiling down at my hand, I clear my throat and look around quickly. Knowing my luck the ghost will be hot on my trail and I have to find somewhere to hide.

Seeing the church a new plan begins to form. I run toward the church hoping the menacing ghost will be kept at bay by the holy ground. Reaching the church, I take hold of the door and pull...

Man I thought I'd been slow in replying. TV just got back to me too.

Quote:
You find yourself in a small room with a long, undecorated dinner table and a sink. At the head of the table sits the ghost of an old man. He is wearing a tuxedo.

"Sit down," he tells you with his arms crossed on the table. "I hear you are calling about the position. We are very glad to have an applicant, of course, but we must also do a rather rigorous testing process before we can hire someone into the Governor's Mansion. Would you be willing to provide a character reference in the form of a letter of recommendation, a resume, and one visual example of your skills? Simply tell me where this information can be located, and I will deliver it immediately to the Governor for his final decision."

There is another traveler already in this room, you see. You don't think the other person has noticed you yet.

Guess I'll have to work on some kind of blog page for my roach killin' company or something lol.

And who's the other person standing in this room?

Looks like I did it now.

Quote:
Eniny meany miney moe. Actually I have a reason for going through the door in front of me.
It is most likely a hallway. The door on the left probably goes to another room but not the bedroom. If I am wrong, no one should be in the bedroom at the moment anyway.

Here was the response

Quote:
You turn the knob for the door in front of you.

Instantly, a noise sounds, and the lights go off. All the machines in the laboratory stop, and you are left in a still room with the sound of an alarm wailing somewhere nearby.

You can not see anything.

Someone grabs your left arm.

Someone else grabs your right arm.

You are dragged away from the door and thrown into a corner of the lab.

One voice speaks, very close to your ear. It is a woman's voice. "What are you doing, opening the Governor's door without knocking?"

The other voice is a man, and he sounds as if he is standing next to her. "Should we initiate the punishment?"

"Wait," the woman says. "Let's hear our answer first. Well? What were you doing?"

oops Laughing

You think it would help if I cracked a joke and flirted with the girl?

lots of stuff from me now..
aaah, I'm such a coward, I'm to afraid to enter the forbidden room
Quote:

You are startled and nearly drop your basket of clothes, but you calm down after a few deep breaths, and you decide to descend the staircase.
It is wide and well-polished, though the air is stale and feels as though no living person has used these steps in a long time. You go down slowly.
Soon you find yourself on another floor of the mansion. There is a room to your right, and there are three other rooms to your left. There are two staircases that lead down; one right behind you, and one to your left at the other end of the hallway.

„Damn it", I think , „couldn't they build a mansion, which is not that huge?"
I look around the floor. "Hellooo~hoooo, anyone here? I need to show you my desi~igns!"
Wow, all that doors, and I don't know, which way to go. Not that I'm scared. *shiver*
I remember, that I heard the laundress, and that it sounded far away.
Isn't the laundry always in the basement? Well, at least I should try to find her there. Going down the stairway is mostly the way, to get into the cellar – I'm going down the stairs at the end of the hallway, slowly, from time to time asking: "Hello~hoo.."

You decide to seek out the laundress to show her your designs. Deducing that she must be at the lowest level, you go down again. This time you find yourself at the bottom of a grand staircase that goes up to the left and to the right, with a great statue in the middle of a stout man wearing a top hat. There is a door behind you and another one across the room. To your left, behind the staircase, is another room. To your right, in front of you, is another staircase leading down. Directly to your right is an enormous door with a note on it. The note reads, "NOT TO BE OPENED WITHOUT PERMISSION."

Hi,

this could be me, I applied for the job a few days ago as well. Didn't knew, that you already did. I haven't heard from TV yet, so don't know if I was invited.

Wish you good luck with the job Wink

T.V.s reply to my last turn:

Quote:
You run to the church and decide to enter, but the door is shut. There is an enormous handle with carvings of beautiful flowers, and you reach for it. Tugging as hard as you can, you make sure to keep your hand still clutched tightly around the speck of dust. As you try to open the door, you feel something telling you that you are doing the right thing. There is a soft warmth in your palm that feels like the essence of excitement, and you don't want to let go.
But the door is stuck tight. There is no way you are going to open this on your own.
You stop and look around. There must be another option.
Upon examining the area more closely, you find several items on the ground: a life bead, a small satchel with nothing in it, and a potted plant with a single flower sprouting from the soil.
You may take one item per turn.

My new turn:

Quote:
Squatting down, I poke through the various items on the ground. First tempted by the lifebead, I pick it up and feel it's warmth in my hand. Something tells me to move on though so I put it back down and pick up the potted plant instead and begin to inspect it.

Guess I didn't need to flirt... I think I will any way.

First my move:
Quote:
Sorry, I am new here and did not know that THIS was the door. Now that I know, I will knock from now on. Do you have any other advice for me around here?

Now them:
Quote:
Deciding that honesty is the best policy, you apologize and admit to your mistake. There had been two doors, and it was a 50/50 chance. Surely these voices in the darkness can forgive you… right?

After you ask for their forgiveness, there are several seconds of silence.

"Fine," the woman says, and the man next to her groans. He sounds disappointed.

You wait to find out what "fine" means.

Finally the man speaks. "Then what are we supposed to do, if we can't punish him?"

"Hrm…" the female voice says. Something strokes your hair. "He's not an intruder. He's the new hire."

"Yes, but that doesn't give him the right to –"

"Shhh!" she hisses. "I have an idea. If he doesn't want us to report him to Mr. Unsound, he'll do what we ask."

You wait.

"I like what you're saying," the man says.

"Exactly," she answers. "Now, duster. You're going to help us. There is one cabinet in the Governor's bedroom that will be off-limits to you. I want you to open it and take what you find. Bring it back here to me. Do you understand? Come on." She lifts you up in the darkness, and the alarms shut off in the distance. "This way."

She is leading to you back to the door.

Guess I will flirt with her now.

Hi,

I heard back from TV too and I am really in the kitchen with Leyton Stone (I think) and a second person.

Here's my application mail:

Quote:
Dear ladies and gentlemen,

I was told of your newspaper by a friend after he saw your classified ads. At the moment I am looking for a job after finishing my studies. Some people say, that I am only searching for adventures and that I should apply for normal jobs, but the moment I read your ad I knew, that's exactly what I want to do.

During my studies I met four roaches named Pablo, Pancho, Pedro and Pepe. They loved to smoke wall papers to get high. They settled down in a friend's kitchen and started to plan a revolution. I helped him to bring them back to Mexico. I think, I can handle your ghost roaches too and make sure, they go where they have to go.

I would be very pleased to hear from you.

Kind regards,
XaRen

and TV's answer:

Quote:
The butler looks over your information and nods several times as he reads. He adjusts the tiny glasses on his face twice and even speaks aloud to himself.

"Hm… ah… the roach revolution… Yes. I will take this to the Governor immediately." He stands and adjusts his jacket with dignity. "If you would both please wait here." With that, the butler exits the room via stairs off to the left.

You are in the kitchen with two other people. There is a long table and a sink. A stairway is to your left, and there is a small door to your right. Behind you is a door that appears to lead to a downstairs entrance to the mansion. There is a note on the door that reads, "NOT TO BE OPENED WITHOUT PERMISSION."

Maybe they have a problem with many roaches, so all three of us can get the job? Or maybe they need some help in the kitchen, to make delicious roach tarts or something like that Wink
