Janesville Wisconsin

coord (42.714250 -089.000977) - Janesville WI
15:11 PDT

I saw last night that my hometown of Janesville was a location. To bad I now live over 2 ours away. I let my brother know about the whole thing and he showed up to were we think the payphone is. To bad I am stupid and cant convert time and sent wim at 6:11 central time instead of the right time of 5:11. He will try again tomorrow.

Re: [META] Post here to document WHY Axons didn't go hot

Janesville, WI -- 15:11

I was here for this one. The coordinates didn't match the location of the payphone exactly, but I spent about a half an hour beforehand searching the area near where my GPS said that the phone should be, and this was definitely the only payphone nearby. (Also, several other people who were there agreed that this was the location)

The phone didn't accept incoming calls. I tried calling the phone number that was listed on the phone, and got "This number is not in service."

No plans to return, since I live about 70 miles away in Milwaukee county.

Finally got one!

Still working on the 11:53 Boise Idaho eyes.

So for all you Idahoans, here's exactly where you want to be to get your axons hot.

If you look at satellite images and the maps you'll note that the location is south of Hanley St. rather than north... tho I'm sure the coordinate could be incorrect. Probably best to take a larger team and scope out all the payphones in a 2-3 block radius... maybe saturday I'll get a gang there.

EDIT: the phone I scoped out south of hanley was immediately inside the delivery door of an applebees, there was however no ring... someone should test the phone. I don't have a day off until Sat.

Was the same kind of thing for the 16:27 Boise Idaho (pillow). GPS coordinates and the map matched almost exactly to a lone payphone outside an old abandoned gas station, where we all stood around yesterday and missed the call (and apparently where others were standing around today also while I was getting the call). The actual phone was in the Pizza Hut ~300 ft away and on the other side of a cross street (S Lois Ave).
Using the Pizza Hut address from here: http://payphone-directory.org/payid.html plugged into here: http://www.geocode.com/modules.php?name=TestDrive_Eagle gave me the EXACT GPS coords listed for this time (43.605803 -116.211713).

Sattilite Image: http://mapper.acme.com/?lat=43.605803&long=-116.211713&scale=10
Incorrect phone was at the bottom right corner of the left-most rectangular building, mere feet away from the cross-hairs, here: http://mapper.acme.com/?lat=43.60595&long=-116.21169&scale=10
Correct phone was in the Pizza Hut which is the sideways T shaped building up and to the left. And the phone was located inside it, here: http://mapper.acme.com/?lat=43.606407&long=-116.21259&scale=10
So for you who are still looking, the phones can be a little ways from the GPS coords given.

Punching in "200 W Hanley" to the geocode site gave me the exact matching GPS coords for one of the Coeur d'Alene ID sites (can't remember which and spreadsheet is at work, while I am not).

Though I've tried this on a NY and Seattle GPS coord and have not had any luck. But each of the Idaho ones required either a familiarity with the area (which I don't have for NY nor Seattle) to make sure I had the streets right and knew what was around there, or it took multiple tries punching in all the possible addresses from the phone-directory site into the geocode site (which I didn't take the time to do for NY or Seattle).

I used this method to confirm the Kopper Kitchen location for the 11:53 (eyes) coord. I was there both yesterday and today but there was no call. Unfortunately the phone# listed on the phone-directory site for this pay-phone is incorrect. I think that's probably why there has been no call there. I am trying to ascertain exactly where this incorrect phone# rings at, but have been unsuccessful so far.

(Re: the 6:27 PDT call in Rankin, PA)

The person ahead of us picked up the phone, was asked for nickname, responded "Melissa".

I was there as well, and got there just in time to watch that moron blow the whole thing. My second two-hour trip in as many days, and someone else thought he knew how to take the call.

And after failing, he casually tried to tell us he'd done it right.

In an attempt to communicate problems reported here to... Somebody... I tried to send the following to any number of <insert name>@ilovebees.com

Not sure if anybody tried that before.... But it kept bouncing...

Any way, I figured it would be good to have an actual list of all the Axons that were reported in this thread as being broken or otherwise unable to go hot.

If I've missed any, then please reply and I'll add it.

a. Receiver damaged or destroyed
b. Receiver unable to accept incoming transmissions
c. Ambient noise inherent to the location interferes with voice interface.
d. Volume of broadcast set to low. No sound, or to faint for a clear reception.

The master list of the locations and the phone status is being maintained here. You might want to check your list against that, because several of the above actually went hot on Wednesday.

Check that list folks and try to get to an axon today(8/26). We have to at least get one of the groups to go 7/7. I think we can hope for some kind of reward for that, maybe another audio clip to fill in some gaps or something cool like that.

Once two or more axons are hot, do the remaining phones still ring?

39.1879 -77.7977 8:27 map acme 360 km SW of New York New York you_knew 2/2

This coordinate is 360 km SW of New York... that's an interesting way of saying, This coordinate is in the Washington DC area!!!! Update the list, and DC peoples, make that baby hot!

Edit: OK, it's on the Virginia/West Virginia border some ways NW of DC, a little bit farther away from DC than Baltimore is. It's very close to the junction between VA, WV, and Maryland.

Gotta check those maps!

four_goats Chicago 41.933417,-87.64522, 14:08

Sorry, I posted this to the other board, so I'll repost a summary here for Chicago, 41.933417,-87.64522, 14:08.

I confirmed this GPS point for the Borders with the method described in looking up the GPS point for the address of the Borders pay phone.

- I hit the Borders, and I called BOTH numbers listed on the phones from my cell phone.
* 773-404-6903 rings when you call it, but if you pick up the pay phone while you're calling it, it's just a dial tone, so it's not an issue of the ringer being off. It doesn't accept incoming calls BUT it doesn't play a message either. I also called my cell phone from this phone to make SURE it was the correct number listed, and the caller ID matched the number above
* 773-404-6873 plays a "number not in service" message. I couldn't call out from it as there was someone on the phone, obviously with a calling card, as they were on for over 20 minutes.

So, neither of the phones at the exact match of the GPS coords seem to accept incoming calls. But one of them does it deceptively by ringing.

14:35 Axon not hot

14:35 PDT (35.247083 -080.860550) Charlotte, NC
No phone at/near location

This location is in Five Points Park in Charlotte, NC. I went to scout the location in hopes of getting it hot this weekend. What I found was that there is no phone in the park. There is no spot where it look like there was once a phone and had been destroyed. My sons and I walked through the entire park to no avail. I asked someone reading in the park pavillion about a phone but she did not know of any.

The only thing I found interesting was a play ground toy. It is one of those things you sit on with a big spring as the b ase and rock back and forth. The creature type: a bee.

I visited 35.074196 -89.91932 at 7:51PDT in Memphis, TN. The phone rang, but did not recognize my response. When she asked for her nickname I said "Operator," but all I got was silence. So, I said it again followed by "yes_or_no". Then I got the failed message played back to me.

May I was supposed to say "The Operator" instead of "Operator".

Any thoughts?
