C14.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):

> Should we have knocked ... ?

While on the walkabout, there happened to be a man outside the small house (so cute!) tending the yard in some fashion. Crumbly Donut asked him if the phrase "Commander 14" meant anything to him and I think CD also added something else, like "radio broadcast" etc. The man was puzzled and indicated that he did not know what we were on about. We thanked him for his time, and continued on our way.

This is trainspotting, but is there any way to know that Eva's house wasn't actually on the very corner, and is now just an empty lot?

i don't think a house used to be there or we'd see evidence of a foundation. also the rear garage driveway only goes to the house, not the side yard bit.

if worse comes to worst seek out Jun Yu in chinatown because he doesn't move. be ready to fork over about $5 to get a single coin though. it took me and my friends more than a week to finally get ANY coins.

Though apparently not Sunday.
Last Sunday Jun Yu had a sign up saying closed but I saw him further down the alley chatting it up with friends.

Hobo Coins and other stuff

Hello Nonchalants!
I started playing a week or so ago, got inducted and have been working on the second act.

I've been hunting the elusive hobo coins, nothing yet.
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
I even went by Ross Ally yesterday but it must have been too late, the barber shop was closed and no Jun. I've been by Powell Bart a couple of times, there's an asian guy playing violin, no sigh of Kippy and I went by Hardie Place a couple of times to no avail.

I'll keep trying.

I went by Cooper Ally
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
and there's no alter, but did find the picture of Eva.

I just got my little black box.
Spoiler (Rollover to View):

It looks like the contents have changed:
1 Instructions
1 EPWA ID Card
1 Hobo Gliph
2 Security Stickers
6 Electrical Box Stickers
2 Fence Signs with wire ties
1 EPWA Voice Sheet
1 clothes pin

It came in a velum envelope which was inside a big white envelope.

I had hoped to get a hobo coin Grrrr.

I went by Cooper Ally and there's no alter, but did find the picture of Eva.

Lot.

Turns out there was something on the corner lot ... a church. The Swedish Lutheran Ebenezer Church.

http://content.cdlib.org/ark:/13030/hb7g50091s/?&brand=eqf

The money shot is here:

http://webbie1.sfpl.org/multimedia/sfphotos/AAB-0555.jpg

Which came from this 1956 v. 2007 comparison:

http://www.orangecone.com/archives/2007/03/a_neighborhood.html

The church was destroyed in 1993 in a fire. Here's a thorough history of the church:

http://www.baptistchurchsf.org/ourhistory.html

There was some sort of re-numbering in effect so 208 Dolores is 200 Dolores, is how I understand it. The home next to it was slated for demolition in 2008:

http://missiondispatch.com/news/view_article.html?article_id=e6f8f080bf5aad699cdf248ae7ae9a9f&from=rss

Also for you treespotters: 1956 -- no tree; 2007 -- tree; 2008 -- no tree.

For all you search otaku, the term that really unlocked that corner was the phrase "15th and dolores" ... much better than anything about the church, or the specific address, or other combinations of street/city/church/etc. It was an eye-opener, information-gathering-wise.

Voice Sheet
Spoiler (Rollover to View):

It's a 5 x 7, b&w, double side card.

Says:
Elsewhere Public Works Agency
Z135478 ---------------- VOICE-SHEET /3// PRINTED ON NONCHALANT PAPER // FRIDAY APRIL 2011 ------------ 1888-717-7517 -FREE.

at the top. Contains elsewhere propaganda, nothing that I see is new.

Voice.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):

Ah! The card that was handed out during the action ... briareosH posted a scan of both sides awhile back:

http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewtopic.php?mode=attach&id=17574

I was bringing up the rear most of the time, and it seemed like every person I passed was holding one of those cards and reading it.

Crumbly Donut and I were walking up Kearny two weeks ago and we found one of those on the sidewalk, right on the route we had taken. Strange.

I think the show is tonight. They sent the e-mail today, I know they say "Friday" but, you know how the EPWA are.

Also, as for the patents, I WISH I was able to make it up north, but there is no way I can afford a ticket. So, to whomever makes the cut, PLEASE let me know what happens. I'm really interested in seeing whats going to happen next week Very Happy

I finally have the tooth!!!

Before meeting some friends, I made another pass at the Barber Shop on Ross Alley.

There is he was.

I was so thrilled to see him and buy the coin ($5).

I went next door and brought myself a bag of fortune cookies.

Then I made a beeline to the Paxton Gate. I made the mistake of going to the Pirate Shop where we obtained the map. It was the curiosity shop next door that has received my coin and handed me the tooth.

Now back to the EWPS website.
