This would explain a lot of other stuff, as well. Someone (sorry, forgot who, too lazy to look back) had asked why Jersey initially asked if Durga could look up an admiral, then quickly backed down. He even said himself that admirals have "packet guards". I don't think he asked because he "wanted" to look up an admiral, I think he was more-so just curious/surprised that she was even able to (imagine if your computer program suddenly told you that you had access to the pentagon. Sure, you'd be curious if it "could" get in, but you wouldn't want to risk getting caught).

It also explains where all these "memories" are coming from (assuming that Durga is Melissa). These aren't actual memories of "Durga's life before she was an AI", but rather just (not-so) random streams that were recorded. This is why she couldn't look herself up or anything, but she's an AI, she doesn't have a stream. She had to relate the encounter with Jersey from his perspective, because he was the only one in there with a stream to record.

Unrelated spec: rather than Durga causing the power to go out, maybe it was because the power went out that she was able to get into Jersey's computer, and from that moment on Durga started recording all these streams (which supports the idea that all recordings start at the same time).


yeh maby the power was out for so long, it restarted the inturnal clocks on all electrical devices! dats y the times are all the same it happened to my Xbox,

 		I see a lot of spec putting the "emergency.wav" as being directly related to Jan's incident, and suggestions that this station on fire is the one she just left.

This can't be, unless government arrangement in the time of the story (which still has yet to be established) is drastically different from the one we are subjected to today.

Jan infiltrated and was caught at a military base, and she was then picked up by Military police. Military police operate on military bases and have their own stations on said bases.
The fire takes place at Harris (it sounds more like Harris than Paris to me)23 Police Station, Bergen County.

I know this would throw continuity out the window, but this "emergency" really seems to be sitting outside any of the other established timelines that we've seen so far.

On the ghosting topic = you're right

On the streaming topic = thats what i think too

And on the spec above = i'd say thats a good idea but its probably more likely whatever sent her to Jersey's computer caused a big glitch rather than her taking advantage of a worldwide simultaenous glitch

If the MPs didnt suspect her of something drastic or didnt want to deal with her cos her dad is a 'special special force' then the only thing to do would be to turn her over to civil police and out of military duristiction.

yeh that person on the other line didnt sound serprised there was a fire, do u think a copy of da virus/AI (cant remember da name)

Other then my feeling that it is more like an open mike with NO stream, this is what I was trying to point out by relating it to Shadowing (a Terminal Services reference) rather then ghosting (as you said a disk imaging reference). If I leave my mic attached my computer 'hears' everything that it picks up. It doesn't do anything with it but the sigle is detected and bit bucketed. If someone where to tap into my PC they would be able to run a process to grab that signel and redirect it to thier PC.
This would also explain how he was able to insert Sophie's 'the rash will clear up' message. Just reverce the process.

The other on the line sounded like an AI or recording and as the sensors couldnt detect a fire and the Ai believes them to be functioning, it treated the claim suspiciously. Kinda like being told your bedroom is on fire over the phone, if you cant really see it or are fooled into not detecting it, how can you really believe it.

 		who cares about the terminology, THEY called it ghosting. he hacked dudes chatternet implant or device, that is what they are calling ghosting. people are making the biggest deal about the littlest things

We are told that Jan is taken out of the base: "The MPs only brought her here because we have a lab". She left the military base, into the station. Afterwards she leaves with her Dad and her Dad burns down the station to destroy any evidence they may have found about Jan.
