I don't believe it's Vigenere either, as evidenced by the amount of mid-word punctuation. I'm leaning towards a keyboard shift cipher, though I'm not sure how it's constructed.

I think I can say for certain that the Eridanos wordpress posts are not a substitution cypher.

Attempting to decode them using letter frequencies and ETAOIN (and so on) produces garbage, unfortunately.

There is also a locked page on there (http://eridanos01.wordpress.com/amber) which I also can't get into, having tried the following:
  • eriadnus
  • eriadnos
  • amber
  • the river
  • sacagawea
  • essy
Anyone else care to give it a go?

I have been trying to figure out the Amber password too.

The exact quote from the Eridanos01's first WordPress post is from either this website:

http://www.constellationsofwords.com/Constellations/Eridanus.html

or this one:

http://www.britam.org/now/now305.html

The picture from the first website is sort of like the one that is on Eridanos01's Twitter profile.

EDIT: Also, there is a little smiley face at the very bottom of Eridanos01's WordPress page. Could this be related to Essy's "=@)"?

EDIT 2: More has been added to the first post by Eridanos01 on his Wordpress page. It reads:
[At the wedding of Poseidon and Beroe :] Eridanos brought shining gifts, amber from the trees of the Heliades that trickle riches."

According to the site that this quote comes from, http://www.theoi.com/Potamos/PotamosEridanos.html

Amber is the tears of Heliades. I've tried to put this in as the password but it doesn't work.

New tweets:
>>Sys:Log//I have been analyzing this tentacle's activities while it was loose. There appears to be similarities to its damage themes.

>>Sys:Log//I am late for hibernation once again. I must now prepare for hibernation. I was fortunate to avoid damage this instance.

EDIT: I think we already figured out that the smiley face was a wordpress built in design. I think

It is in fact Vignere. (I assume we're looking at the same thing) I solved it earlier today at work but couldn't post, and now that I'm home I'll have to recreate the solve. Gimme a few minutes... (I'll just outline the steps and see if someone else can duplicate it -- I did finally remember how to work the tools, so yay!)

So i'm looking at this most recent blog entry:
Quote:
Ztzw…a jrohe lycqx lp.I'dk ovqhx ovxik ueyei xongb ygbmm w.

Now for a short explanation of how I solved it:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
First, I noticed that the message was broken at every 5th letter, ignoring the punctuation. That is the traditional format of a vignere ciphertext. If i had the key, I could pop this straight into a deciphering applet, but my first stop required that I remove ALL of the punctuation. (If you put it into Notepad with a monospaced font, it's more obvious that these are not all 5-letter words, but an encryption layout)
---------------
The really neat tool I use is on this webpage -- scroll a bit less than halfway down to the three input boxes. The 3rd box is where the system will give you some "Possible Keys", but you paste the normalized ciphertext into the 2nd box marked for ciphertext (duh). Tell it how many attempts you want (usually 10-50 is sufficient) and click the "Break" button located under that 3rd box. (I'm pretty sure I had to remove spaces too) If you're lucky, one of the top suggestions is a real word or phrase.

Here is the keyword I used and the final solution:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
rareandbeautiful
I plugged that into http://sharkysoft.com/misc/vigenere/ using the original punctuated message and got this back:
---------------

Of course, it reads more easily when you undo the breaks at every 5th letter.

WD Catherwood!

I was trying with letter frequency charts, but was coming up with nothing...

Cather that's great! I was able to recreate your solve after removing the spaces.

However, as far as I can tell the other blog posts must use different vigenere keys. Plus, the vignere key breaker isn't spitting out any useful keys for the other posts...

Same here. I'm not getting any good possible codes. How much of the post do we need to put in the second box?
