Schwinn has sold me on his idea, that this is just a big viral marketing campaign for Starbucks.

I'm leaning more toward the ending of the story than Starbucks, mostly for selfish reasons, because I'm in a land that Starbucks has forgotten - the closest one is over an hour away from here. Now if a Starbucks suddenly pops up in the area, I'll be more inclined to agree with the marketing campaign idea.

klokworkalex: Wish I could help, are you sure you have all the pieces? Starr is headed for DC today. I guess more Food Network and boredom for me.

Hm. So maybe we don't have all the pieces yet...?

Also, why the hell is Starr going to DC? D:

We have a map, folks!

Our four blogs were posted with different user images... all pieces of a temple-like layout. Very exciting. 150 x 60 cubits (a 4/10 ratio) fits the shape of this building perfectly. Maybe 21 cubits is the height.

So it looks like this may be a view of the very top of the building... it's marking out cameras, a computer room of sorts, and the 'eye' symbol--the Oracle, who is apparently one floor under. I think.
Maybe this will take Port being there and seeing the building before it makes sense, though.

edit;; rotated; it was upside down, according to the 'begin in this order' thing

Also, oraclewatch.org is currently redirecting to a fake 404 on another site that doesn't really exist. Maybe the PM forget to pay his bills.

Subject: I'm Sorry

It's about goddamned time some body figured out that this wannabe "game" is a pointless piece of sh*t that does nothing but double back on itself and obviously only moves forward based on the actions of the "players"!! Their's is no clear story woven all the way through it, right? It just kind of chugs along and things only get interesting when people get bored on the forums. I'd like to see everyone start ignoring I'm Sorry out of principal and its generel stupidity!! Can you belive this pointlessness has gone on for this long?

Later, Toni

syn: ahahahahah oh god, win.

So... I dunno, we have our map. Now we wait for Starr to get back (hopefully in one piece) with permission to get out to the Oracle, I guess?

slso, I'm not sure if any of you have picked up on this, but one of our PM's idiosyncracies is to exclaim his sentences like so;

Quote:
omg !! that's so cool !!

a space after the last word, followed by two exclamation points. i noticed it with TT a lot, and at times with JDM.

referencing the map: is this the hallway that leads up to the room where people who meet with the oracle talk to her? I would assume the eye is the little room where the person has to sit, and the computer room is where they monitor with their little 'killswitch' of sorts.

edit: also, it's cool we got a bit more clarification. Arlen's anger about his sister wasn't because she was killed or anything, i would assume it was because he found out she was an exotic dancer/adult film star now, after all he did to protect her.

are we sure Rage is the bad guy here? Razz

Sort of Tempest

Arlen is disillusioned not because his sister went into the sex industry, but because she seduced him, just as she had many before him, whether she did it consciously or unconsciously. The venture into the sex industry is simply the final proof that his sister knows what she is, wants and does and she's okay with that, even if he isn't. Therefore, while he can't bring himself to kill her, he also no longer finds honor in her.

It is not even the ACT of incest that has him as upset as the fact that his sister's sexuality (sensuality is the wrong term here), is not as pure and discrete as he believed it to be when he killed their father to protect her. The doubt within Rage became that his father could not have done anything otherwise than what he did, because even Rage couldn't keep his sister from "defiling" his own sense of purity when she forced him to have sex with her. This guy has issues, and they start with incest, which means that his sense of his own sexuality is F'd up, and may very well lead to his "avenging angel" persona. This is not the first story he's told that points to him seeing himself as being the defender of abused children.... especially those that are sexually exploited.

We now know that Arlen Rage sees himself as a "white knight" character, so even if he has killed, to his mind he is protecting those he finds worthy, those that he loves and feels drawn to, like his sister and Jenny, and possibly "the brood" in general.

So while AR is dangerous, he is also useful. The problem will be in sorting out what use he has in different situations. AR has a very low tolerance for disappointment from those that he chooses to protect. If he admires and respects them, they follow HIS rules of civility and honor, then they live. If they do not, then they die, or at least lose his protection.

The first thing that comes to my mind, is that AR may very well kill Jenny/The Oracle in OK (or before), if she "lets him down" in some way. Obviously, AR has a problem with sexuality, both his and that of others. That could be a horrible thing for Jenny, since we already know from Port that Jenny's sexuality is much like AR's sister's. Jenny can seduce a guy by merely existing, just like AR's sister did. This is not a good sign for Jenny's fate with AR. A briefing for Port may be in order, so Jenny knows to not act on impulse with Rage, gets a hold on her own feminine traits, and most probably not flirt or have sex with Port or anyone else in Rage's presence. Also, limiting their time together may be the best way to avoid a final showdown between Jenny and Rage and Port, and ending in Armageddon.

(and the misogynistic turn to the story line of AR has me creeped out. Shocked )

Syn - what the frig is that email about? LOL Is that someone that is even a member of uF, or just a drive by whiner? This game certainly has a lot of people outraged, and I've been among them at times, but that sounds like someone with an axe to grind, sort of like in the beginning of all of this...

BlackandBlue: Totally agreed, except for one point:

BlackandBlue wrote:

Port stated that the love he felt for Jenny was specifically non-sexual. It was a protective love, not a sexual one. I can even pinpoint a sentence in the first piece of the manuscript that says that. I remember it saying that it made him feel slightly off, since 'he'd always equated love with sex' or something to that effect.

But! My guess is that Jenny's aura probably at least felt similar to Ari's to Rage, though not exactly. Which probably prevented him from taking her soul in the first place.

edit;;

klokworkalex: Questions? How about what is that?

clas1ca: Your key to the Brightman. Might not make much sense now, but there may be clarity once you see the place. Unless it's still missing pieces.

...

Oh goddamnit, Port. You are so totally helpless sometimes. >_> I've only been talking about the map for the past week! Jeez.

At least that's good news!

Thank you for correcting my assumption classi. That is very good news, since at least Jenny should be safe with Rage, and not accidentally push buttons that would put her in danger.

My only confusion is now that we are finding out what makes Arlen Rage tick, why did Rage felt the need to slaughter Holly's group?

It was in that email to Syn, I think--the guy named Darren was second-in-command of the Watchers. And somewhere along the line, Darren was apparently indirectly responsible for Ari's death via heroin overdose. Lesse if I can find it...

Here we go:

Quote:
I killed them all because they pissed me off and because I know that they were involved in the death of my sister, Ari. For the past two months it has been my pastime to travel up the San Francisco heroin supply foodchain, exacting payment from those implicit in her overdose and obtaining the next name on the ladder. The last name, a DEA field supervisor working out of New Mexico, was the brother-in-law of Darren Aronsky, second-in-command of the Watchers. Too much of a coincidence for me to overlook.

So while I don't know if Darren actually had anything to do with Ari's death (he may have just been implicated through family relations and is otherwise 'innocent'), I think Rage just kinda... snapped. But as he also mentions in said email, Rage had been losing control over the situation ever since it started. All his previous killings had been at least premeditated and thought-out... this was lashing out in frustration, upset, and fear. And it all finally got the better of him.

Anyway, I still think he's being ridiculously whiny. I miss our manly mystery man! Like come on, cheer up, emo kid. You got a job to do.
At least his monologues aren't getting any shorter, though. :B

Black - it wasn't from a player. It couldn't have been. My email addy is in the posession of only the PM. The writing style was distinct, too.

The question is not who, but why?

It was in response to my post about the absence of a game and ad libbing the ending, that much is certain.
