Re: Typos?

Deanodon wrote:
Hey gang,

Just finished the book today and I'm looking through the websites. Is the only way to see the "clues" at the Suicide Girls website (the racy photoshoot) to subscribe? Has anyone seen them and determined if it's worth subscribing?

Also, I found some "typos" late in the book:

On page 247, the line: "Pop," Lucas said, "he doesn't want t0-"

The o is obviously a zero.

On page 267 the line: "You want... want t0... KNOW MY FATHER?" he shrieked.

Again, the o is a zero.

On page 297 the line: Drake bucked again, his brow furrowing in confusion. His head titled forward, away from the ceiling, toward my voice.

It should be tilted, but the l and the t are reversed.

In any other kind of book I'd just say they were first edition mistakes, but in this kind of book... Also the fact that they're all on pages ending in 7 seems as though they're intentional.

I've probably missed others, so if you're still reading the book, keep an eye out.

Don't forget page 101 has 198o instead of 1980, and 103 has Xavier referring to
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
the Drake case instead of the Grace case, though the name Drake had not come up in the book by that point

Not meant to know

I sent an e-mail to

and got an auto-reply:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
I'd thank you for contacting me, but I have to ensure you're not one of the government agents trying to shut me down first.

I'll get back to you if and when I've determined that you're legit. Given the level of background checking I intend to do, it is likely to be a long time before you hear from me, if you ever do.

You just can't be too careful.

OK, the Russian inscriptions mean:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
(БЕ)РЕГОВОЙ ПАТРУЛЬ (i.e. shore patrol)

About Registration-2005 I've no clue, since I'ts a little bit wired for a boat name or inscription.

I think, we can start the really understanding of all these documents after we'll finish the book.

Finished the book?

Who has finished the book all the way yet?

I know my brother and I finished it over the weekend, and I'm sure a lot of people on here have as well.

Finished last night. Confused

Revisited websites, and phone numbers. Tried hacking into a couple other accounts at Brinkvale and Lifeplan - no joy. Still no clue on Insurance or bank card. Question

Insurance Card

I finished the book last week.

I'm curious about something-- the Evergreen Medical Group insurance card says on the back "Visit us online for coverage details, online services, and health-related information." If you google Evergreen Medical Group, you get a medical center outside of Seattle. That's the majority of the related hits (there's also a health plan in GA). So that's pretty much a dead end.

Also on the card it says, "If you're admitted to a hospital outside New York or Alaska, please call Customer service to notifiy us within 48 hours of admission."

A health plan that's only good in NY or AK? WTF?

Also Customer Service is capitalized earlier on the back, but in that sentence the service is not, so that's inconsistent. There are also inconsistencies in the bolding of Evergreen Medical.

It says. "Please include the complete ID number with alpha prefix and group number on all itemized billings." --

so the alpha prefix is IGM, the group number is 9509414. IGM = 446 on a phone. 446-950-9414 446 is the Norfolk, Virginia Beach, VA region. I'm chicken and haven't called the number.

And finally, it says, "Call GreenCard Eligibility to verify membership and coverage."

GreenCard Eligibility is not something you want to google. It's a mess of scams for wannabe immigrants.

Evergreen and Allied Bank

I think these were some piss poor name choices, to be honest.

Allied Bank is a real bank in the Phillipines, and the Plutus Group is a real investment group.

There are DOZENS of Evergreen Medical Groups in the US, so it's going to be a needle in a haystack job.

Now that I look back at it, the bank card might have some kind of visual clue. On the front of the card the logo is a globe split into 16 sections, with sections 3 and 7 colored in with different shades of green. On the back, same logo but section 7 is no longer filled in.

Something else odd: The signatures on the NYID and the Credit Card don't match up, not even in the same ballpark. IN fact, I'd be willing to bet the ID doesn't even say Martin Grace at all.

Re: Finished the book?: I completed the book a couple of weeks ago.

@Deanodon: I called the number (446-950-9414) on a cell & was directed via voice message to call: 1-800-331-0500 on a land line. Calling that got the following OOG message: "thank you for calling the new AT&T about your wireless service" -blah blah blah.-So looks like no dice for the # being IG.

As far as trying to find some SG pics or something pertaining to this, easily found Courtney Riot & her Flickr Stream - didn't see anything in the pics pointing to any of this though, accept the fact that the first link has the Artwork she created that is posted in Nathan Xaviers Brinkvale login ("SG_CourtneyRiot_Desk"). Searching Zoetica and some other names will get you all kinds of social nets and blogs for them as well, but nothing that I can see that has to do with Brinkvale or the book either.

I think about the weird name of a boot "Registration-2005". Perhaps it's also a hint? For example, 2005 as a code to access to some information by Martin Grace?

Okay so I went back and read the thread about Cathy's Book here and, assuming that Personal Effects works similarly, I think there isn't going to be a lot more to dig up other than the websites and voicemails that have already been found. The goal seems to be to provide some additional depth to the story (to make it more 'real') but not really to provide a fully-interactive, puzzly experience. I'll be glad if I'm proved wrong, but that's just my thinking about this point..

I've got the non-nude version of the SG PE:DA photoshoot if anyone wants it. It just shows the same stuff that comes with the book. There's supposed to be a full nude one but I'm not paying money for it. I'm still trying to get in touch with one of the SG models I know to try and get her to grab it for me.

BTW, the girls in the photoshoot are Annika and Lumi and the photog is Zoetica (like you mentioned). I may be entirely too sleep deprived, but i didn't see any link between CourtneyRiot and PE:DA. Seems like the SG angle is just cross promotion anyways.

Crying or Very sad Feel the same. And as for Sucide Girls - that just seems to be exactly as Talldog said above and seems to be just a promotion for the site. Like getting into Nathan Xavier's file -- it's all promo.

I'm really, really sad. Crying or Very sad

Please prove wrong ....

I've had the same feeling for the last week, hoping I'm wrong though.

But really, even if all of this is just an expansion of the story meant to add depth and value it's still amazing, and no one else on the market is doing it. I've been a fan of Jordan Weisman since the mid 1980s and he's done nothing wrong in all that time. I'm going to enjoy this for what it is, no matter what that turns out to be.

questions

there are a cople of references that make me think there is more that I can't seem to find. Some info comes from sites and phone numbers so I will put them in spoilers.

Alexandrov:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
there is a reference on the insurance site that Alexandrov used his death date as the code for a bank account the CIA gave him. Supposedly after his first death he was working for the CIA.

Since Richard Drake was also an agent, I thought the credit card might lead to the bank.

Henry Taylor:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Henry said Zach's dad did something that made someone send the dark man after the family. He never said what, and Henry's Police record shows all kinds of references to the occult. What happened, and could it have been Henry that pissed someone off?

Note: I finished reading the book. Also I work at a library and tried using our barcode reader to read the code on the license. It didn't read, so it is either nothing or a differnt barcode format then we use at the library (codabar)
