[TRAILHEAD]? 00112358.net is back.

Sorry if this is the wrong section.

Some of you might remember the ARG involving TheOccularEffect.com and 00112358.net thought to be a viral for the ABC show Fallen in 2006.

This site died around december 2008 (404'ed) but i went on today, 3 July 2009 and the site is open again, except it isn't the Occulus this time.

www.00112358.net has been turned into "the Brighton Art Museum" or BAM

It tells you "This website has been created as part of an online game for MI High. MI High is a BBC One and CBBC TV series."

But why would they take over a previous ARG website? why 00112358.net? why not BAM or some other related name?

There is also a security login page, but i have not been able to guess the username/password.

I'm not sure how these things get started, but i thought i'd point it out.

Frankly, I find this news to be fascinating. Repurposing lapsed ARG domains for new campaigns seems like an interesting move -- is it a mistake because it might lead to confusing search results, or will it attract the attention of players of the previous game?

Personally, I think it's coincidence. The Fibonacci sequence is well-known, and assuming the .com domain is taken, .net is usually the next domain people look at.

Nope, 00112358.net was definitely the primary site from the Ocular Effect. Thankfully its contents are catalogued Wink

Oculareffect.com is also down now.
It was run by Xenophile Media. Likely, with Fallen having aired and never to return (afaik), there's no need to keep the ingame sites up. I would hope they have an overview/official archive somewhere to demonstrate the ARG's run, but I don't have any link handy right now...

So who knows. The new site doesn't look anywhere near as 'professional' or advanced as the previous, so it's hard to tell if it's also being run by Xenophile. But my guess is no. Maybe I'll check with Xenophile soon. Dunno

Since the first round of MI High (Whack the Mole) won a Rose d'Or award, Xenophile's involvement in this campaign is confirmed. Same people, same website, different content.

Having a little more time to look at this, a couple of quick observations:

They did. Looks like this is a second domain, leading into my second comment...

Huh, wasn't aware of that. So it must be a deliberate re-use of the domain, I'm guessing either as a reference or to attract people basically like this thread has.
